Love the accent and am anticipating good things to come from this series, a fresh start for our Doctor.
No hint about th returning character on there yet so we will have to wait and see but I enjoyed seeing our new doctors first dialogue!

There’s definitely going to be Daleks this year in some shape or form. I don’t see why they can’t be scary again if you’ve got a good script. People moaned about RTD always using the Daleks for a series final but it’s this that kept their fear factor as the stakes were always high and they were threatening. Moffat ruined them by turning them into a monster of the week villain that could be defeated in the space of one episode essentially, hopefully Chibnall improves them

I always felt that the Daleks are most threatening when they pose a threat to Earth. That’s where all the best stories have been for me, apart from Genesis of course!
I have seen in Twitter that they may be a part of the Christmas special.

For me, in the RTD era that daleks were really threatening, especially in the stolen earth and journeys end. But the first time they were in the Moffat era, they were getting scared of a jammie dodger. I think if we have too much of the daleks you start to get sick of it, especially if it is not done right or there always in the background. Hopefully, chibnall can do good with them, but time will tell.

That’s why I sort of liked the end of series dalek stories because they’d all appeared for a reason, using the game station to harvest humans and tying into the whole bad wolf arc, then the Genesis ark and the void ship to tie in with roses departure. Even in Series 3 they were threatening because people died and of course series 4 was there best story because like you say they were a real threat to earth. Moffat just used Daleks for the sake of having them. He used scale to show threat by having millions of them yet he had them sitting around doing nothing which ironically made them less of a threat ever since

      July 20th, 2018 - 4:54pm

Someone on YouTube made an interesting illustration of how to put the sense of fear and evil back into them when they are essentially supposed to be Nazis in tanks. They suggested a scene perhaps at the start of a Dalek story in which their exterminating all in sight somewhere and a fearful child is confronted by one and then we don’t see anything but hear the sound of the Dalek’s gun being fired.Cue start of the opening credits.

They should do an episode in the dalek concentration camps

    • Doctor Stu

      July 20th, 2018 - 6:31pm

That’s what should have happened in the 50th anniversary of Doctor who, those timelords at the start should all have been exterminated off screen with sound effects but no visual. Would have made the Daleks a threat in that episode when in reality we saw them do absolutely nothing. It sounds bleak but the only way to make them a threat again is to show them exterminating people. The last time the Daleks were a threat for me personally were series 8 when we saw them killing soldiers. In Time of the Doctor and series 9, 10 and 7 they weren’t a threat at all. Especially when one remarked they had to reanimate the cadavour of Tasha Lem several times to get information out of her. I mean does Death now mean absolutely nothing from Daleks as well????

Standard Dalek operating procedure prior to invading a worlds established in classic series..

Use bacteriological warfare against particularly less advanced worlds to wipe out large amounts of population and then use the survivors as slave labour until expendable.

    • The Outcast

      July 21st, 2018 - 12:44pm

But Chibbers has said that there aren’t any Daleks on set yet, and there are only two weeks of filming left to do, which, unless they are spending the next two weeks filming Dalek scenes, kinda indicates they aren’t in this Series.

      July 21st, 2018 - 1:32pm

But if the terry nation estate rumor is true then they must have at least a cameo in the series. Series writers lie all the time. Moffatt has continually been saying the Daleks need a rest and this terry nation rumour has been supposedly debunked but the Daleks have appeared in every series since series 1 in some shape or form whether it be just a cameo or a full story. It does add weight to the theory when despite saying they need a rest the Daleks are included anyway

      July 21st, 2018 - 7:40pm

Doctor Stu, as i read your post about the Daleks, I got to them being in series 8 and just couldn’t remember seeing them in it. Until I looked it up, “Into the Dalek”, kind of shows how Moffat’s tenure of showrunner went when a fan can’t even remember the most iconic monster in a hugely iconic show. I really hope that Chris Chibnall can bring Doctor Who back to the once great show it was, once again.

    • T.A

      July 21st, 2018 - 7:40pm

I think doctor stu is right because we have had them every year in series 1,2,3,4, waters of mars,5,6,7a, 7b Christmas special,8,9, into to bill clip and 10. So they have been in every year since 2005.

    • Doctor Stu

      July 21st, 2018 - 9:08pm

Yeh good point T.A even in the hiatus between series’s there’s been doctor who content with Daleks in it. And Whovian, my brother challenged me to an online quiz to name every doctor who episode from 2005 to present in under 18 minutes and I managed to get every single episode from series 1-4 and the specials without issue at all, it was only when I got into Moffatt era that I started to forget the episode titles for most of them, especially series 7,8,9 and 10. And some of the moffat episode titles I was only remembering because of how infamously awful they were. I too wish Chibnall can bring the show back to glory but I doubt it, I don’t have high hopes for him as a writer

Good but brief. Apparently No Daleks apparently in season 11 too which I’m extremely happy with. Breath of fresh air

You can say that again, give them a few seasons off.

    • The Temporal Jelly Baby

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:42pm

Really? Where have you heard this?

I have a few thoughts on the Daleks in series 11. Now, the last time we had a Dalek story was at the beginning of series 9. Since then we’ve had a small cameo in ‘The Pilot’ and Rusty in ‘Twice Upon a Time’ but I’m not really counting those. So it has actually been *some* time since the last proper Dalek story.

That being said, if the Daleks return in series 12 rather than series 11 then it’ll probably have a bigger impact. Important question here though: is there any truth in the rumour that Daleks have to appear at least once per year?

    • Gordon

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:52pm

Chris Chibnall said no Daleks in season 11 in the panel. Daleks need a good 2-3 years of no appearances cameo or otherwise in my opinion. There are other old baddies that have yet to be touched that could be used. Sea devils Mara axons sil to name a couple

    • The Moffat Paradox

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:57pm

From other sources I’ve seen like Doctor Freedom it’s rumored they will be in series 11 and there’s the issue if whether or not the Terry Nation estate requires in licensing to the BBC that at least one makes a cameo every series.

Personally nothing against using Skaro’s finest if it helps establish credibility of the Whittaker Doctor whatever I think of the casting if their used more intelligently. Their doing a lot of actual exterminating would help like in “Into The Dalek”

    • R1ch1e

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:58pm

I LOVE the Daleks but there hasn’t been a really good Dalek story since The Stolen Earth imo so I do think they need a rest.

However, am I right in thinking that that they need them every year to satisfy the Terry Nation estate?

    • the ergon

      July 20th, 2018 - 12:39am

I don,t know of issues with the Terry Nation Estate but i know those4- 5 year hiatus’ of old did them a world of good and were more welcome back. Not that i,m suggesting they leave it that long of course. Just give them a new angle.

      July 20th, 2018 - 7:43am

I don’t personally see giving the Daleks a break as being a remotely good idea personally.

What fans tend to forget, I think, is that the show isn’t made for us. It’s made for kids. And kids bloody love the Daleks! What would be remotely good, therefore, about removing them for any long period of time?

Plus, it does make sense that they’d show up as much as they do – they’re incredibly powerful and they hate the lead character. It figures that they’d cross paths a lot. They don’t HAVE to be defeated every time. Sometimes perhaps, the best the Doctor could do is get away.

Plus, it’s been four years since the Daleks have been the main villains of a story. 2015’s opener was really about Davros, and series 10 saw nothing but cameo’s. That’s enough of a break.

    • Doctor Stu

      July 20th, 2018 - 10:49am

New Who is like Star Wars in that it’s made for everyone. At least that’s what RTD managed to get right

    • The Outcast

      July 21st, 2018 - 12:54pm

I think the Daleks not being it this year is a good thing. Last year we got a subplot and an extend cameo from Daleks, the year before that we didn’t have any Doctor Who other than the Christmas special and a teaser clip, which low and behold, a Dalek appeared in. 2015 saw my least favourite Dalek story ever, which was a two-parter.

The Daleks are over-used. Personally, I hope Chibnall gives them a break for a while. Doctor Who can survive without the Daleks for a few years surely. Leave the kids to forget that they were defeated by poop and a puddle in the last stories they appeared in and remember the good bits, then bring them back for 13’s last Series finale, make them powerful, scary and have their appearance be impactful.

Recen series of new who and movie of Star Wars have both shared a lot of the same problems.

  • The Moffat Paradox

    July 19th, 2018 - 9:32pm

We need to see more evidence of any element of threat conveying that those involved as “custodians” of Who really do know what their doing whatever misgivings we may have about this right now.

  • The Temporal Jelly Baby

    July 19th, 2018 - 9:22pm

Awesome! I agree with the people below saying that it would’ve been nice to see a monster or two, but I very much like what I’ve seen so far. I’m also really happy about the “new worlds” part – I was slightly concerned they were just going to be on Earth in different time periods for the whole series. OK, yes, that did work well in Jon Pertwee’s era before someone points that out but it’s still nice to know she’ll be taking her new companions (or friends as they’re apparently called now) to other planets. 🙂

It doesn’t feel right, Jodie as the Doctor! I know I know…..give it time.

    • the ergon

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:37pm

If you can,t get your head round her don,t bother. Come back when shes got that first season under her belt. Mccoy was the one i had problems with and i barely saw any of his on original transmission, i just found it difficult to accept this spoon playing buffoon. years later and much reassessment later i learned to really like him more as the doctor when he got ‘darker in those later stories’, that doesn,t mean i don,t still have difficulty with his first season though even now.

It’s how it is when most doctors take over, I felt the same about matt Smith when David left

      July 19th, 2018 - 10:00pm

But if I don’t bother and all the others that feel the same as me also don’t bother it could get cancelled!
I don’t want that to happen unless it is absolutely dreadful.

I guess at the end of the day it will the viewers who will decide if this is a success or not…but this feels nothing like Dr who.

No..it’s looking more like the Ghostbusters remake…

    • the ergon

      July 20th, 2018 - 12:29am

If thats the case pats 86 and you obviously seem conflicted just roll with it. Nobody knows how its really going to pan out yet. Opinions are always going to be divided and its all new territory but only you,ll know if you think its worth 10 weeks of your time . Me personally I,m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

  • Dalek Bumps

    July 19th, 2018 - 9:02pm

Looks like it’s filmed and directed well. But, I still can’t help feeling this is a more light weight Doctor lacking the gravitas the central character really needs to be.

    • Pats86

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:10pm

Dalek Bumps you sumed it up perfectly.

    • Haza14

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:46pm

You can tell that from a 40 second trailer? You could have said Matt Smith lacked gravitas from first impressions. Yet he most certainly had his moments and they made more of an impact because it was rare and unexpected. I don’t think they could really have gone with another solemn Doctor after Peter Capaldi (as great as he was!) as it’s obvious the causal viewer (and a great deal of fans) wanted a change! I can’t wait to see Jodie get real! I’ve you’ve any doubt she can do the serious stuff, just check out her back catalogue!

    • Pats86

      July 19th, 2018 - 10:03pm

I’ve seen her back catalogue, that’s the worrying thing. I’m not saying she will be poor but it doesn’t feel right.

    • Anonymous

      July 19th, 2018 - 11:51pm

I’ve also seen her back catalogue and she is a brilliant actress. Her performances in venus and adult life skills are stunning

    • The Moffat Paradox

      July 20th, 2018 - 12:52am

She’s ,if were indulging this, supposed to be a 2000+ year old Galifreyan so there needs at some point to be an autorotative “I AM THE DOCTOR”!! moment which like the male incarnations evokes a sense that she’s not taking you know what from anybody or anything that makes other characters and the audience think “where did THAT come from”?

    • Doctor Stu

      July 20th, 2018 - 10:52am

Yeh but the kind of audience today will cry and insist her ‘I am the Doctor’ moment is her man hating or SJW’ing or whatever these stupid people say

    • Anonymous

      July 20th, 2018 - 12:27pm

I think you got the terms mixed up

    • Dalek Bumps

      July 20th, 2018 - 2:46pm

Jodie Whitaker is a fine actress. But I don’t really see her as ‘The Doctor’. She seems far too human, and lacks that oddball alien quality. Phobe Waller-Bridge would have been perfect. Another fine actress for sure, but she would have been perfect in look and performance.

One thing that does make me giggle is that people are always angry when trailers reveal too much.
This trailer reveals very little and people are angry about it…

    • Doctor Stu

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:01pm

Take the series 10 trailer for example, revealing too much is when they revealed John Simm and the Mondasian Cybermen. Not revealing too much was the inclusion of the emoji bots, heather, space zombies, the visit to mars and the frost fair. This just gave us a flavour of what to expect of what was to come. This trailer gave away nothing. Is that beach supposed to be another planet? The whole trailer looked like a fan made thing

    • the ergon

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:18pm

This team are deinitely keeping their cards to their chest

    • The Temporal Jelly Baby

      July 19th, 2018 - 9:26pm

It’s good that they’re keeping their cards close to their chest, as it means it’s less likely things will be spoilt. In series 9, the return of Gallifrey was spoilt. In series 10, the return of John Simm’s Master and the Mondasian Cybermen should’ve been kept secret. However, there’s nothing like a good old monster reveal to build up excitement.

  • the ergon

    July 19th, 2018 - 8:48pm

Looks and sounds great, its just a shame it didn,t reveal as much as i,d liked. Maybe when it gets nearer the air date then

Going to be honest, I wanted to see more Monsters and Aliens and I’m not to fussed about the first Poster. But I do like the trailer and I think Jodie will be great. I still think the Beeb are keeping their cards close to their chest

    • Tyler Prescott

      July 20th, 2018 - 9:25am

I think it’s more Chris Chibnall than the BBC, to be honest. Their cards couldn’t have been further away from their chest during Moffat’s tenure.

I’m loving that fact they are not giving anything away this time around. What could have been some fantastic moments have been ruined by spoilers in the last few years. And quite frankly all the suspense of not knowing is making me more hyped for Doctor Who than I have been since the 50th Anniversary.
All I ask is for a decent on screen explanation as to why the Doctor has never regenerated into a female body before now and I’ll be happy.
      Can’t wait for this series.

  • Doctor Stu

    July 19th, 2018 - 8:38pm

Urgh not even a hint of any monsters or creatures. ‘New doctor gets new companions and visits different planets and time periods’ yes we know all this show us something we don’t know. There’s nothing distinguishable from this trailer. There’s keeping people guessing and then there’s providing nothing at all. I mean none of the companions even opened their mouths. Literally a waste of time waiting for that does anyone know when the next trailers likely going to drop? Looks like we’ve got the long slog now for even a tiny tidbit of information
