Christmas Special Trailer – The Snowmen
A look at the trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas Special Trail, introduced by Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman.
‘The Snowmen’ has been revealed as the title for this year’s movie-scale Doctor Who Christmas special, and the episode that will introduce the new companion, a new look for the Doctor and a new monster that will have families shivering behind their sofas.
Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor, and introducing Jenna-Louise Coleman as new companion Clara, The Snowmen will follow their adventures as they embark on a mission to save Christmas from the villainous Doctor Simeon (Richard E Grant) and his army of icy snowmen.
Fans also got a sneak peak at a new costume for the Doctor, revealed in an exclusive trailer on Children in Need, while a special prequel showed the impact of the loss of the Ponds, with old friends Vastra, Strax and Jenny trying to persuade the Doctor not to give up on adventures.
Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said: “The Doctor at Christmas is one of my favourite things – but this year it’s different. He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge. He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight? Enter Jenna-Louise Coleman…”
Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, commented: “For this year’s Christmas special we have the wonderfully villainous Richard E Grant as Doctor Simeon – as well as lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged warriors from the future, who all return to convince the Doctor that he should board the TARDIS again and save the world. Add to that Jenna-Louise Coleman, and so begins the Christmas Special 2012. I hope everyone enjoys it!”
The BBC Cymru Wales produced drama will return to BBC One in December, with a further eight epic episodes in spring next year.
With this year being the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, the group decided that to create a one off magazine based on five decades of the Doctor’s adventures would be a perfect…

My theory the daleks use an old Dalek, and create fake memories, they send a projection across the universe to where ever the doctor lands, this projection is Oswin or Clara ,the doctor use her as there spy, determined to find out the answer,to the question ,doctor who?
In the finale Oswin reveals her true self to be a hologram Dalek person, she kidnaps the doctor taking him to a Dalek ship, where the daleks are determined to answer the question, doctor who?we then have a few battles with daleks, the doctor then reveals he should be dead, the daleks scan him, recognising h should have died at lake silencio ,they then recognise the causes, discovering who the doctor is,they then know about the silence, the doctor blows up the ship after they attack him ,far away a message from the daleks lands in a mysterious base,a message on a signal, the message is picked up as unknown forces watch, they then reveal themselves to be clerics, the clerics go to an office surrounded by silents and headless monks,in the office is a woman, madame kovarian and her allies ,madame kovarian knows her enemy is alive ,but how, why, soon the silence base is on red alert, the doctor is alive ,th silence prepare there final plan,as the fields of trenzalore await us all.done

Great Theory but your wrong Oswin won’t be in the Xmas special its a different person and she has said that herself and Steven has too but great and amazing theory.
Posted by: Anonymous November 25th, 2012
They are going to say that,Oswin,Clara same person, the story arc is why is she a Dalek, who is she,
Posted by: doctorwhoone November 30th, 2012
No Clara Oswin and Oswin Oswald are not the same person, 2 different characters but played by the same actress that’s all.
Think of Freema Agyman, played Adeola before playing her cousin Martha Jones, that’s what Jenna-Louise Coleman is doing.
Clara Oswin is Oswin Oswalds great great grandmother or some other female relation.

same with gwen in torchwood , her relative was in the unquiet dead played by eve myles as well

I hope next year we get a future christmas,in the far future, maybe Christmas on trenzalore,at the end of the 50th anniversary we could have a Christmas cliffhanger
Christmas on trenzalore
Posted by: doctorwhoone November 20th, 2012
That would make a nice change I have to agree.
They could probably do a kind of Futurama Christmas episode where Santa is a Robot and he does nasty things to children who have been very very naughty, a kind of anti-Santa.

Hey BooBoo, love the new look countdown on the main page of this awesome site. The 49th Anniversary part of the banner on the right looks awesome
I’m going to watch ‘An Unearthly Child’ followed by the most recent episode [The Angels Take Manhatten] on Friday to celebrate Doctor Who’s 49th birthday before the Christmas Special and the BIG 50th Anniversary.
I was thinking, since some of us often write comments like this that are ‘off topic’ shall we say, how about making a page on this site, like a Guestbook or something.
Posted by: booboo November 20th, 2012
will see what we can do

Did strax die ?
Posted by: doctorwhoone November 20th, 2012
In ‘A good man goes to war’ he did die.
I’m guessing it’s another Sontaran who just happens to share his name.
Posted by: the astronaut of death November 20th, 2012
or a strax from a different point in time
Posted by: Esterath November 20th, 2012
We didn’t see him die on screen. Vastra and Jenny could’ve taken him with them back to Victorian Era and nursed him back to health.
Posted by: Whovian November 18th, 2012
WOOOO! The doctor’s emotional something bad’s gonna happen to the villiam! I hope he keeps that cosyume and hair do, they’re epic!
Posted by: the astronaut of death November 18th, 2012
i wish before amy and rory had left they gave them a proper part in the xmas special because
in chritmas carol they were in it but they were not thre alot they only had a vew scenes most of the special was revoled round kazran and the doctor barley any amy and rory
and in the doctor the widow and the wrodrober they only had one scean
i just wish they had a bigger part in a xmas special
Posted by: Doctor Stu November 18th, 2012
I Think the best Christmas special is voyage of the damned as it was a great story line, a feature length episode and action packed. the heavenly host were creepy and sinister and were a great monster. the Doctor Who Christmas Special should just be the doctor fight monsters at Christmas, not a classic Christmas story doctor who style. A Christmas Carol tried to copy Scrooge and broke loads of doctor who rules about paradoxes and time lines and the doctor, the widow and The wardrobe was too fast and the monsters were not very inventive
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
Really? I hated Voyage of the Damned.
Posted by: doctorwhoone November 18th, 2012
For me the best Christmas special is ‘The Runaway Bride’.
DONNAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
Really? That wasn’t Christmassy. It could easily have taken place any time.
Posted by: The Supreme Dalek November 18th, 2012
I see what you mean, Esterath. But Voyage of the Damned and The Runaway Bride were two great stories! In my opinion, The Christmas Invasion was the worst.
The Runaway Bride featured the new and future companion Donna Noble, who appeared in the TARDIS after being teleported from her wedding. It had a good story, the Racnoss was kind of strange though. I will admit it, it didn’t have a Christmassy theme too it, but some of them were hardly better: The Christmas Invasion I only saw a Christmas Tree and snow falling and Voyage of the Damned which again I saw the exact same thing. I saw much more Christmassy things in this story.
Voyage of the Damned – Nowhere near my favourite special, but I’ll be truthful and say I could watch it over and over again!
The only thing I disliked in that story was the idea of the Titanic Spaceship. I’d love if it was actually the real Titanic. But how that would happen plus the Christmassy theme into it (as the real one sank in April), I’m not entirely sure.
Meanwhile, The Christmas Invasion wasn’t bad, but my least favourite. I guess it was a decent episode for the new David Tennant as the Doctor, cause he should his acting very well. The Sycorax, great enemies, but that episode could easily bore me in the first ten minutes. I guess that’s just my opinion though.
Obviously I respect your opinions and I’d like to hear your view of those three episodes, plus maybe from the rest?
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
OK,
TCI- A great introduction for the 10th Doctor (shame he spent most of it sleeping, but still!) Loved the Sycorax. 7/10
TRB- As I said, doesn’t seem Christmassy, could easily have been set in summer or autumn. And the Racnoss did nothing. 2/10
VOTD- Good plot, nice visuals. didn’t like Astrid, the supporting characters were cheesy. And the Astrid is ‘now floating in the stars’ thing. Nah.
(Not counting TEOT because of it wasn’t a Christmassy episode for me. And it seemed more like a goodbye to DT not his overrated Doctor. IMHO. 3/10)
ACC- Now this is more like it! Stunning performances from everyone! I LOVED this episode.I watch it every Christmas! 10/10!
TDTWATW- Not as great as ACC ut still good. The Arwells seemed flat and unlikable. And Cyril had only ONE facial expression throughout the episode! However the Doctor/Lily dynamic was great! 6/10.
Hope you enjoyed reading this.
Posted by: Those Snowmen over there November 18th, 2012
TCI – Good introduction for Tennant with some nice Christmassey touches. 9/10
TRB – Not as good (or Christmassey) as TCI, but still a pretty good story. 7/10
VOTD – It was ok. Nothing special though. But, as Esterath said, the whole ‘floating in the stars’ thing was ugh! 4/10
TND – The only good things were Tennant and Morrissey and the graveyard scene. The rest? No. 3/10
(Like Esterath, I don’t count TEOT as a Christmas Special. It would probably get a 5 from me though)
ACC – A wonderful Christmassey episode with a superb cast, Matt Smith on top form (as usual)and a wonderful story. 10/10
TDTWATW – Bit of a step down after ACC, but it was decent. I too loved the Doctor/Lily dynamic. Matt Smith and Holly Earl are easily the best things about this episode. 5/10
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
When is Matt never on top from?
Posted by: The Supreme Dalek November 18th, 2012
I dunno, The Eleventh Hour perhaps?
Lol joking, but maybe he had a few weak episodes that I didn’t like him in, like The God Complex. Anyway, more opinions:
The Next Doctor – I seriously just watched that about an hour ago. I like it, not the best, but still great! Didn’t like the “other” TARDIS though…
A Christmas Carol – Good, great, perfect, amazing, fantastic!!!!!!!!
TDTWATW – ok I suppose but I enjoy it sometimes.
Posted by: Those Snowmen over there November 18th, 2012
Are you saying you didn’t like Matt Smith in The God Complex? If so, then :O
Posted by: McGann is the Doctor November 19th, 2012
The story that springs to my mind is A Town Called Mercy.
He looked good but the way the Doctor was written, didn’t work for me.
You could tell his heart wasn’t in it, that joke about the horse swearing had VERY stale delivery.
And the scene where he pushes the alien guy out could have been done better, he should have full on grabbed him and chucked him like a boss, then it would have been more believable.
Posted by: Mr Evil Fez November 19th, 2012
TRB- Disappointed with this one. It wasn’t exciting at all. Like most of RTD’s Xmas specials, what does it have to do with Christmas!? 3/10
VOTD- I really like this one. A fantastic story, but Astrid was too annoying. In one of the Wallace and Gromit sketches (I think the one with the baker light girl) a scene from this episode is similar to a scene in the sketch! 7/10
TND- This one has some cool scenes, and the Cybermen are pushed to there limits. However, it was obivous that Morrissey wasn’t ‘The Next Doctor’ from the start. 6/10
ACC- Great cast, great acting! There is nothing wrong with it! 10/10
TDTWATW- The Children are unrealistic and the monsters are wood, and they aren’t even monsters. A spaceship made out of wood? Seriously?

Votd

this special sounds really cool i am really looking forward to it

oh yea but i didnt read all of it though also the council of dead is in it which i think richard e grant is playing the boss of them

how do you know he is forced to regenerate at Christmas
Posted by: crazy guy November 18th, 2012
i found it from filming soureces but he doesnt actually regenerate matt is gonna hopefully stay forever
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
Matt will still be the Doctor in 2014.
Posted by: The Supreme Dalek November 18th, 2012
I think it’s time for another change, as much as I like Matt. As long as he is good though, who ever it’ll be next time…
Posted by: Esterath November 19th, 2012
Hopefully Matt will surpass 7 years…
Posted by: McGann is the Doctor November 19th, 2012
Sadly, Matt has said he will not do it for that long, saying “I could not do this for seven years” and explaining the effect it has on his body, the energy he brings to it cannot last forever and the fact that it, rather undisputabley, makes him age faster is what he probably means

The title should be the christmas that went dark
Posted by: Androvax November 17th, 2012
Looks amazing, can’t wait!
Posted by: Don’t diss the Sonic!!! November 17th, 2012
The christmas special looks amazing! I didn’t think i would like the actual snowmen but they’re actually quite scary, but obviously not to scary as it being a christmas special. I remember reading that the Vhastra Nerada were confirmed to be in this episode and i thought that it wouldn’t work this time, that it would make the episode seem to cheap but if it is true and they’re sort of controling the snow then Steven Moffat has done well. Just as i expected he would.
Steven Moffat has always wrote excellent Christmas special, they’re not just like the ones writin by Russel.T.Davids, and the only christmas thing about it were either the monsters or the fact it was set on Christmas Day. In the Moffat ones, its got a proper christmas feel to it, but with the Doctor Who touch, it’s extra special.”A Christmas Carol” was based on the wonderful story written by Charles Dickens so we all know the Christmas theme to that but with Doctor Who’s touch of flying fish, a machine that can controle the sky, a new planet set sometime in the future, the love of two people blossiming with the help of a Time Lord and his time machine and his companions on their honeymoon on a ship that is about to crash unless he can change the heart of a man with a troubled past; it was a magical christmas special that only Doctor Who could make.”The Doctor, the Widow and the Wadrobe” made it quite clear that this was to be a fun packed episode and not as serious as the previous one. Based on the 2nd book of C.S.Lewis “Chronicals of Narnia” “The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe”, it brought the magical wonder of opening one door and coming open a whole world of magic and wonder.
Also the importance of family and how mother knows best. Though with the extra touch of acid rain, a wooden king and queen, a tower that has a room that can go though the time vortx, souls of trees that look like stars and a wife guiding her husband through the time vortex back the to the home they’ve been evacuated to due to the second world war. It brought a ecellent sense of drama as did the previous one, but with the importance of how familys had stick together at the toughest time during ww2, espcially when they had lost loved ones, but with the help of a certain timelord, not only did he gave them a christams to remember, but he saved their thought to be decised father in the only way the doctor can, through time travel, except this time, it was the strong wildedness and the love for her family that help the mother save the day. Now with every episode being a blockbuster episode, and the fact that this is a christmas one, suggests that this will be a twice as enjoyable and magical but with the added scare that all Moffat christmas specials have and drama, but this drama will be twice as good because it is our beloved Doctor that is in the centre of the it after losing the first face his face saw (Amy’s face) and had chosen to stop saving people, and only the soon to be new companion can change his mind. The adding aspect of it being set in Victorian times makes it intresting as well as the return of three loved characters after having stared in only one episode (Vastra,Jenny and Strax from A Good Man Goes To War) and obviously the mystery that surrounds his new companion and whetehr she and “Oswin Oswald” are the same person and how Oswin knows The Doctor will help make this an episode to remeber.
Posted by: Andrew Hall November 18th, 2012
Think you are being very harsh about RTD, i much prefer his christmas specials to Moffs two poor ones
Sick of people knocking RTD and im surprised Booboo allowed you to get away with that comment.
Posted by: booboo November 18th, 2012
didn’t see it, altered it now.
For the record i havnet liked the the last 2 specials at all, though i can why other people might
For me by far the best was The Next Doctor which is the only one i can re-watch quite happily but it seems the least popular
Posted by: Esterath November 18th, 2012
Hmm, I didn’t like the Next Doctor. The CyberKing was stupid and don’t get mee started on the TARDIS balloon! I LOVED A Christmas Carol!
Posted by: PandoricaOwner November 19th, 2012
Booboo, finally I have met someone who like myself hasn’t liked the last too specials and liked the next doctor! Think this will be good though
Posted by: doctorwhomad November 17th, 2012
A minute into the video where Richard E. Grant is saying “I said i was going to feed you. I didn’t say who to.”, it looks like a bit like some yeti that are eating the man. You can see some claws and they look hairy. It’d be so cool if it is the yeti.
Posted by: The Moffat Paradox November 17th, 2012
Yes this dosen’t look too schmaltzy for a change.
If people just wanted schmaltz for Christmas TV then why did mainstream channels like ITV used to put on Bond films for Chrismas day then?
Posted by: DarkKnightDalek November 17th, 2012
this looks great!!!!!
Posted by: Doctor Stu November 17th, 2012
Clara and Oswin may not be related or connected, she may have been just paying a cameo role to see how she performs like Freema Agyman did when she played her cousin Adeola in Army of ghosts. Or Karen Gillan when she played one of the Sooth Sayers in the fires of Pompeii
Posted by: Anonymous November 17th, 2012
thats very true
Posted by: Kroton November 17th, 2012
They already knew she was the new companion, so they wouldn’t make her appear in AOTD! And on children in need, they said they were completely different characters, like they are joking and there is a link!
Posted by: Esterath November 19th, 2012
I think Clara is splintered in time like Scaroth. So Oswin is Clara but in a different timeline.
Posted by: Anonymous November 17th, 2012
the christmas carol was a load of rubbish i rate that 2 out of 10.
last years one i rate 7/10 it was really good but the monster was rubbish

But first we’ve got the shows 49th birthday to come – THIS FRIDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m glad it’s near to Christmas, I’m glad that there’s a brilliant new companion and I’m glad it’s only one! Having a married couple in the Tardis really destroyed the sort of one to one companion relationship with the Doctor. Amy Pond knew too much (and of course A VERY complicated time line) and it isn’t meant to be like that in in Doctor Who; the companion is the one who asks all the questions and screams a lot! And C’mon, ’5′ episodes this year… I really don’t like that layout! For me Doctor Who should always be on a Saturday night, always at 7pm and always running through corridors and getting attacked by the daleks, cybermen and master. Remember 2011? Well they went all Series (THAT’S right, ALL SERIES LONG) without a dalek episode! Shocking!!! Well thats my thoughts anyway. This years Cristmas Special looks fantabedosy!
Posted by: The 14th Doctor November 17th, 2012
I like it when they have more than one companion. It worked well in the old days, with Ian Barbara and Susan and all those guys. They had a great chemistry with each other.
Also, what you said about Daleks. It’s not shocking that they weren’t used last year. The Evil of the Daleks aired in 1967 and they were never seen again until 1972. That was a FIVE YEAR wait. In the classic series there was usually very big gaps between Dalek stories. It was only Russell T Davies who decided to use them every year.

Very poor trailer in comparison to the previous ones for ACC and TDTWATW, but the special looks excellent and incredibly dark. Looking forward to it.

Ah, finally, the episode title, The Snowmen! Great, the new companion, Clara! And evil looking snowmen? I can sense a creepy-like Christmas this year….
I’m really looking forward to it. I wonder if those kids were Clara’s children. I’m excited for the return of Vastra, Jenny and Strax (besides his humour that failed in the prequel…) and I’m happy that once again, this episode is very Christmas-y. Moffat has been making Smith’s Christmas Specials more like that, and I have that feeling I’m watching the best one yet! I CAN’T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!

She’s a governess.

How do you know?

Filming reports. And anyway it’s obvious! She’s telling then a story, most Victirian mothers wouldn’t do that hence the governess! Besides she look to young to have kids that age. The boy looks 8 and the girl looks 10. Pure logic. Elementary, my dear Kroton!
