Have just (20 June 2010) seen the Vincent van Gogh episode. It had humanity (concern for)up front and I loved it. But why did they need to go to Croatia or wherever to shoot it? That cafe is STILL THERE in Arles! I was there a few years ago.

Just saw the episode (in Australia 6 June 2010) when the homoreptilians first appear in Dover.
I confess to being a pedant, but just to let you know that we notice things … I don’t think they had double white lines on the roads in Dover in the mid-30’s … I believe they weren’t introduced until the late fifties. A small lapse in otherwise carefully detailed programmes.
Not sure about the new Dr. yet … – A catapult in his jacket pocket? Just a little bit twee, don’t you think?
I’m still watching, though. As I always have done – since Pertwee.

The latest series with Matt Smith has just arrived in New Zealand. But, oh dear, the quality of the first two episodes was appalling. Poor Matt, having to endure such weak material.

I appreciate it is a children’s programme but even so kids are somewhat discerning these days, and enormous credibility gaps in the plot and poor direction will not be forgiven. The episode about wartime London and the Daleks was painful in the extreme!

David Tennant had the advantage of some very good scripts and it strengthened his role as the doctor. But if this quality continues then ratings will surely decline.

no OMG doctor who is awsome the auton you think is actually a smiler

I have followed Doctor Who since John Pertwee and I have loved. I stopped watching part way through Colin Bakers time as the Doctor. I was so pleased when it came back with C.Eccleston and D.Tennant. I thought the story line for the new series was fantastic, but I wasn’t impressed with the new Doctor at all. If it wasn’t for Ms Pond I would have turned off.

I had to give it a chance and see if the new Doctor would fit the role. I turned on for the second episode, but I was not impressed. I will watch the next couple of shows, but I don’t hold out much hope at all.

I hope this isn’t the final Doctor Who. But so far I can’t see that Matt Smith has a lot to offer the role. Out of all the candidates,I don’t think the choice was a good one. I hope I am wrong.

    Love love love it!!!!

Also very interesting to note that the new Doctor will be wearing a bit of Harris Tweed! Am I right? This is great news! Will we see a Harris Tweed revival? I hope so!

Congrats to one and all with the new season, which looks great!

    Best Wishes

I have to admit, I was not initially happy with the choice for the new doctor when Matt Smith was first announced. David is and always will be my Doctor, and I was going to have a really hard time letting go of him. However, after I saw the trailer for the new season, my perspective completely changed. Matt Smith looks like a great fit! Mr. Moffat, of course, is a brilliant writer, and I’m sure the season will be awesome. I will always miss David, but I’m sure that I will be a huge fan of Matt within the first few episodes. I’m a relatively new Doctor Who fan, too, so I’m excited to see some of these older monsters introduced to the new series.

  12. Posted by: Doctor Who Fan 96 January 30th, 2010

Could another monster be the Autons? That’s what I’ve been thinking anyway.

  13. Posted by: OMG doctor who is awsome January 27th, 2010

Aparently there is going to be 3 monsters returning. I know theres the weeping angles :) and the Daleks :) :) but whats the 3rd one?????

I can remember all the way back to the 2nd Doctor. Those automoton/shop mannequins terrified me as a little girl (I was sure they hid in my cupboard at night) & I was delighted to see them back again with the 9th Doctor.

I hate to be a Geek but, it was the 3rd Doctor.

  19. Posted by: stephen January 6th, 2010

WOW WEEPING ANGEL AND DALEK ARE BACK

    BUT

    WHAT WHITE DALEK CALL?

  20. Posted by: Lee January 6th, 2010

I can remember all the way back to the 2nd Doctor. Those automoton/shop mannequins terrified me as a little girl (I was sure they hid in my cupboard at night) & I was delighted to see them back again with the 9th Doctor. I loved watching Doctor Who all the way up to the last of Tom Baker’s episodes & then it gradually lost me. Maybe Tegan was the beginning of the end for me, as a young Aussie teen I found her offensive. I never understood her whingeing or Sarah Jane’s screaming constantly either. Give me Leela or Romana any day. I’ve loved the new companions, they’ve all been feisty.

I was delighted when the Paul McGann film came out even though it wasn’t great as it meant maybe the Doctor was back. I actually really liked him, not his fault about the production. I think all the new series so far were worth the long long wait. Christopher & David were both wonderful in their own fantastic ways. I’m glad they’re willing to take risks with the casting in age & appearance; otherwise all the Doctors would have been elderly men! Let there be a bit of snogging every now & again; half of what was so great about the Tom Baker series was the sexual tension. We just knew what was going on behind Tardis doors there. We know the Doctor had family, let him have a bit of depth & feel the full range of emotions. So, lets give this young guy a chance, there’s been some great writing so far in the new shows, I trust them to keep this great TV institution on track to making it’s 50th anniversary. Hope I’ll still be around to watch it :-)

I can’t believe Daleks are back! Then again, it figures as the Master brought the Time Lords back, resulting in the Daleks coming back – maybe some escped when everything was being sent back to normal. Was that Dalek Sec or just a normal black Dalek?

  24. Posted by: DoctorWho January 3rd, 2010

looks good, so glad its going to be SCARY!!!! but david tennant is like my life so i am so sad he is gone :(

  25. Posted by: the doctor January 3rd, 2010

    WOW! THIS SERIES LOOKS GREAT!

DAVID TENNANT IS THE BEST DOCTOR SO FAR

  26. Posted by: Keegan January 3rd, 2010

OMG Wepping angles are back and river song!!!. David Tennant was a good doctor.

  27. Posted by: Jamie January 2nd, 2010

I just wish that some so called ‘dr. who fans’ would quit slating series 5, before it even begins. Yes, David Tennant was brilliant and will be missed, but time moves on and the show must refresh itself in order to keep within public appeal. That is why the whole concept itself has survived since 1963! The new series preview looks fantastic! Everything you could possibly want from the show. Tardis, Daleks, explosions, weeping angels, sexy companion and of course, the good Doctor himself! It seems to me from watching the trailer that the same rules still apply! Its 2010, and Matt Smith is the Doctor! Celebrate, don’t criticise!

Hey just noticed in between the shot of the Dalek Eye Stalk and the swashbuckler – Magpie Electronica sign – does that mean the Wire is back?

  45. Posted by: thedrums January 1st, 2010

    Oh my god.

Series 5. I had doubts, big time. Matt Smith looked too young to be anything even connected to Doctor Who. The logo looked, well, a bit disappointing.
But, now I’ve seen the trailer, got used to the logo, we’re all going to love what Matt Smith brings to Doctor Who! Roll on Series 5!
Oh, and by the way, Geronimo!
