For all these people saying Smith is the 13th and final doctor, no he isn’t. In the angels take Manhattan, he gives river some of his regeneration energy, which proves he still has some left. In the impossible astronaut he begins regenerating before being shot by the astronaut. (Yes, i know, its the tesselector)but still he begins regenerating. These prove that he still has the ability to regenerate. So yes, Matt is the 12th doctor.

time lords might have a small amount of regeneration left but not enough to repair the whole body in a full regeneration

and if that was true moffat and matt would have not said he is the 13th doctor

    • crazy guy

      November 26th, 2013 - 8:03pm

actually in the impossible astronaut the doctor didn’t finish regenerating so that didn’t count as a regeneration. all the first 8 doctors are normal then the war doctor is the ninth, Chris is the tenth, David is the eleventh and Matt the twelfth and making peter the thirteenth but however as moffat said Matt is not called the eleventh doctor just in his eleventh body

      November 26th, 2013 - 8:30pm

Think about it, in ‘Lets kill Hitler’ river gave him her remaining regenerations to stop her killing him, that’s got to be at least 9 more doctors after the 13th. problem solved id say

    • drjakeyoung

      November 26th, 2013 - 8:34pm

Moffat and Smith never said that.

      1. There is no record anywhere of Smith saying
      that.

      2. I am pretty sure the newspaper that said Moffat said that was the same one that has a reputation for spicing up rumors about dr who.

    • TheDoctorWhoGeek

      November 26th, 2013 - 11:06pm

Moffat’s addressed this more recently (read it on Anglophenia I think) that Smith is the thirteenth, as one of the regenerations was taken up by the MetaCrisis Tenth Doctor. Thus the whole Thirteenth Doctor thing can’t work so Moffat has to solve it in the Christmas Ep! Exciting! Could be him just stirring up rumours though as we know he does!

    • MasterKasterborous

      November 30th, 2013 - 10:25pm

Or it could be that 10-11 was his 12th regeneration (as there was the War Doctor + Tennant into Tennat) and so The Doctor’s first regeneration cycle does indeed die at Trenzalore but he has many more lives to follow!

I think that in the end all the different monsters that the Doctor faces in the ep will corner him on a rooftop and right at the end 11 will jump. All the clues are there, Silence will fall, fall of the eleventh, river falls off the building, the angels fall into the crack. All of 11’s time on the show has hinted to falling.

    Here’s the BBC synopsis

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

Although, I think the title could have been better, as someone else suggested, Silent Night, or maybe, keeping with the ‘of the Doctor’ titles, we could call it Silence of the Doctor. Oh well, at least it has every possibility of being the best Christmas special Doctor Who has had!

Apparently david tennants 10.5 regeneration is going to count as cannon in this years xmas special as a full regeneration and seeing as john hurts war doctor is obviously the 9th doctor whether people want to admit it or not would mean matts doctor is infact the 13th doctor with 10.5 counting as doctor number 12 (this is confusing) but more importantly would mean he has used up his 12 regeneration’s thus peter capaldi will be the 14th doctor. Phew…….

Nah….the meta crises doctor is just that…the doctor didn’t regenerate so it’s not part of his cycle of re generations. Matt is 12 and Peter will be 13..,, that then allows Steven Moffat to deal either the whole 13 incarnations issue.

    • the astroanut of death

      November 26th, 2013 - 7:22am

he did regenerate but he just used his DNA to keep him self looking the same.

so I recon it counts so think the 11th doctor is actually in his 13th body meaning his time is up this Christmas…

    • Dalek the Supreme

      November 26th, 2013 - 1:51pm

The Journey’s End regeneration should count. I still haven’t forgiven the 10th Doctor’s vanity in Journey’s End, but I am glad the issue will be addressed. The Doctor has had 12 bodies so far, but he used up a regeneration to clone his 10th incarnation.

    • Anonymous

      November 26th, 2013 - 3:14pm

He didnt regenerate…he used the regeneration energy to heal him self and then directed it into his severed hand before he regenerated. The 10.5 Doctor would not have existed had Donna not trigged the process…so he is completely seperate from the Doctor and is NOT one of his incarnations.

the 10th doctors regeneration in journeys end used half the energy to heal himself then to stop him from changing he put the remainder of the energy into his hand which then created the meta crisis doctor so all the energy was used

I wonder how they are going to explain a 14th doctor. I think it will go back to River Song. When she gave him her regenerations. I think it reset his regenerations or at least gave him what was left of hers. My question becomes since he knows n o w that a child conceived on the yard is become timelords why has he not attempted to repopulate his species?

Perhaps it will be an award for saving Gallifrey, as the High Council promised the Master a new regeneration cycle in exchange for saving the Doctor in The Five Doctors. It could easily come back to River Song giving him her remaining regenerations, too. We’ll just wait and see.

    • Anonymous

DOCTOR WHO ONE: I know there could be future incanations, I merely meant that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is not the 14th…he is the 13th. However, regarding future ncarnations…my personal feeling is that SM has introduced the War Doctor to notch up the number of incarnations so he is at the helm when they have to work out how to go beyond Peter Capaldi’s 13th incarnation – I think PC will only do one series then the show will be rested for a few years – but not before SM leaves the doors wide open for the next production team.

    • DOCTOR WHO ONE

“No sir, 13” when correcting the Time Lord General who had said something like “My god, all 12 of them”.

Anonymous – Well as far as I’m concerned, there now is 12, making Capaldi 13, even thou we will know him as the 12th Doctor, and plus, the end of ‘The Day of the Doctor’ confirmed how many there are exactly by showing all 11 Doctors and John Hurt’s War Doctor.

    • booboo

      November 26th, 2013 - 3:49pm

that’s right though 13th Doctor but 13 regeneration used (10-10 again) when there should only be 12

    • Anonymous

      November 26th, 2013 - 4:43pm

Currently there are 11 Doctors and 1 War Doctor making a total of 12 incarnations (meaning he has regenerated 11 times). Peter Capaldi will be the 12th Doctor but 13th incarnation. I am not aware of RTD or SM confirming that the Meta crises Doctor counts towards an incarnation. Remember…its not the number of regeneration processes…its the number of lives that count towards the 13 Life Cycle Limit…otherwise the Watcher, The Valyard and Dream Lord would also count…whereas these are nothing more than versions created ‘from’ the Doctor…as is the Meta-Crises Doctor.

But “Who” knows…the great thing about this is you can change the rules…
