The still photo shots show just how awful these new designs really are. Half-Dalek, Half-? VW Beetle? Teletubby? Smarty? Power-Ranger? Portaloo?

What may or may not have been interesting new touches such as the eye, the apparently ball-joint eye stick and so on are obscured by the overall failure to produce something that looks like an actual Dalek. Nothing stays the same for ever and it is natural that the Dalek design should evolve over time – but it should always instantly be recognisable as an actual Dalek and not look like a dodgy knock-off. If the Daleks are going to change a bit – fine – as long as they still remain Daleks and the new design adds – not detracts – from their visual appeal and sense of menace.

Daleks are meant to be mutant blobs of hate encased in killing machines – these don’t look at all menacing. Would even the youngest child hide behind the sofa to avoid them? More likely, they’ll see them as refugees from Cbeebies…

I was there at 8am with my 6 year old. Ended up crouching in front of one trying to get it not to exterminate me! A surreal morning. Having them moving around and Nick Briggs there doing the voices certainly helped! The new eyes work really really well when they’re staring you down. A great start to a great day 🙂

The adventure games played, not the daleks. Why does everyone hate them. They’re PURE evil now. They kill their own kind. They’re cannibals.

I wish I could have played them, like the people in Sheffield got to. And when will they say the title of the first episode? Anyone went?

These Daleks are far from awesome, they look plain stupid.

RTD brought back a war machine after years of them being a bit of a joke, and now we have all those out of proportion 60’s and 70’s dalek toys, only full size.

Sorry, not daleks in my book, don’t like them.
