Next series of Doctor Who to be split

Next series of Doctor Who to be split transmission

From the BBC Press office…

The BBC and Steven Moffat have announced today that the transmission of the next series of Doctor Who, in 2011, will be split into two blocks, transmitting in spring and autumn.

The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.

Steven Moffat said: “The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!”

    I found this on DW wiki!

    There are numerous rumours about Neil Gaimans story being set in a giant doll’s house this also seems more likely due to the previous title of his story being named “The House of Nothing”. There will also be another 2 earlier stories, one with an Egypt theme and another possibly set in an Ice Base.

    Maybe the ice base is ice warriors?

    what dose steven moffat mean by 2 finales it would be a bit rubbish if
    1 was in season 6 p1 and one in p2 it wouldent be a finale
    it would be more of 1 parters

    The comments people have posted about it being ‘an outrage’ that Moffat decided to split it: is it not good that he’s done this? It means we get even more of Eleven’s brilliant madness, Amy’s sarcasm and Rory’s adorably dumb face. More amazing action from the new TARDIS and sonic screwdriver, more aliens, and less time to wait for it all! Stephen Moffat only has our interests in mind when he decided to split it. Don’t go all ‘OH MAH GAWD STEVEN MOFFAT IS SO STUPID HES TAKEN AWAY THAT REAL LONG WAIT THAT WE ALL LIEK HATED SO MUCH AND I HATE HIM SOO MUCH CUS HE REPLACED DAVIES AND IS HORRIBLE WRITER CUS HE MADE THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR EWWWW!!!!11!!1’ like i’ve heard quite recently from some people. Don’t forget, that genius man created the weeping angels, vashta nerada, Amy Pond, River Song, Rory Williams, the Eleventh Doctor and countless other characters. He even created Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey.

    If you act like the given example, you are in no way a Whovian 😉

    @Joe, “I think the doctor will regenerate into a woman on the first cliffhanger” – interesting thought. What if that woman was River Song and she was the Doctor all along ? What if that was what she meant by she “killed” the greatest man she ever knew ? It would explain how she knows so much about him and can fly the Tardis. Unlikely I know but…?

    A character is to be killed off;
    I’m guessing Amy for a bigger cliffhanger,
    Rory already died and no-one cared.

      Rory’s died so many times, and it’s just got boring. I just sit there thinking: “Just get up Rory, you’re not dead!”, so if Rory died, then it would be so, so boring. Amy might die, but that would be too confusing and catastrophic. River can’t die, because that will cause fans heads to explode, since she actually died in Forest of the Dead. The Doctor was the one who died, but we all hope that will be averted. Smith won’t live forever, but Doctor Who will!

    I think the doctor will regenerate into a woman on the first cliffhanger. As steven did say “you’ll need 3 months to recover from the Earth shattering cliffhanger!” Whatever it is, it will probably be a huge let down to us fans.
