Doctor Who Nightmare In Silver Trailers / Pictures

Nightmare In Silver Next Time Trailer

BBC One on 11 May at 7.00pm to 7.45pm

Hedgewick’s World of Wonders was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.

When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes. The Cybermen are back

I really think the kids will ruin it and I really don’t want the cybermen to change.

Since I can’t post up a link, I’ll just post up the teasers from SFX that everyone has been talking about!
The episode title “Nightmare In Silver” seems somewhat inappropriate, because this doesn’t feel like a particularly dark or terrifying episode.

It’s an unusually child-friendly (or child-like… or possibly even childish) episode – in fact, at times, it’s very like watching a CBBC show.

And that’s not just because it has a couple of kids in it – the kids don’t actually get much to do.

This episode does for the Cybermen what 2005’s “Dalek” did for the pepperpots (and, indeed, what “Cold War” recently did for the Ice Warriors).

Most of the tweaks (or upgrades?) work well. But if you’re one of those who dislike the stompy Cybus Cybermen you’ll probably wish they’d gone even further.

Matt Smith gets to play four different characters (sort of). Two of them very badly.
Opinion may be divided on the third.

There are returns for: a familiar piece of music, a bit of kit the Doctor hasn’t used much lately, an old Cyber-Achilles heel, two post-2005 catchphrases, and a couple of filming locations (which hardcore fans will probably recognise instantly).

Also keep your eyes peeled for something from a Toby Whithouse episode.

A big secret is hiding in plain sight. One of the kids works it out. Can you?

Things this episode might remind you of 1: a character from The Beano.

Things this episode might remind you of 2: Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Things this episode might remind you of 3: this little girl. *Girl from remembrance of the daleks*
Things this episode might remind you of 4: this little girl *Girl from The Exorcist*
Things this episode might remind you of 5: cabaret acts like this: *A half-woman-half-man act*

‘Familiar piece of music’? I hope we hear some music similar to that of ‘The Tomb of the Cybermen’ 🙂

    • Dalek The Supreme

      May 6th, 2013 - 7:03pm

I’m guessing the familiar music is the 2006 version of March of the Cybermen, but I would love for there to be the 1980’s version or the Tomb music.

      May 5th, 2013 - 9:54am

NO! You have to be kidding right?

      May 5th, 2013 - 10:12am

‘Delete’ is getting really old and boring now.

It was cool when they first uttered the word back in 2006, but after afew years, it is kinda lame.

    • Tardis’nt

      May 5th, 2013 - 10:14am

They should say “Destroy” or “Eradicate” like they used to in the classic series. As well as “WE WILL SURVIVE!”

    • Esterath

      May 5th, 2013 - 10:16am

‘Delete’ was stupid and should never be said again.

      May 5th, 2013 - 11:29am

I think delete was a Cybus Cyberman thing, these ones are from our universe.

    • anonymous

      May 5th, 2013 - 2:23pm

Just no. Delete is a stupid phrase that should never have been assotiated with Cybermen. In fact it never was – it is only associated with “Cybus-men”.

    • Anonymous

      May 6th, 2013 - 3:42pm

They only said ‘delete’ because it was like a new catchphrase, like how the daleks have ‘exterminate’.

    May 5th, 2013 - 8:49am

Just checked out the new BBC America trailer on YouTube, and there’s this really weird bit from Clara when she says –

    “Your orders come from me”.

Now why would she say that ?. She’s a companion to the Doctor, not a Military commander of some sort, it’s so unlike Clara to say that.

My guess is that she’s probably been hypnotized by someone to control a small group of Soldiers she’s seen with in the trailers, or the Doctor has put her in charge of them and she just feels she can give orders to these people for that very reason.

But it’s so unlike her to say such a thing, and the way she says it makes her seem cold, heartless and evil.

    • Esterath

      May 5th, 2013 - 9:05am

No, the Doctor tells her to stay on the planet and to keep the soldiers in control.

    • Weep

      May 5th, 2013 - 10:47am

It isn’t going to be great if Clara become a trooper in all the serial, like Martha.

    • Doctor Stu

      May 5th, 2013 - 12:34pm

I agree with Esterath but it could be a different version of Clara 😮

    May 4th, 2013 - 10:04pm

After reading SFX’s article on this episode I have reached plausible things that will pop up in this episode:

    1. The Doctor’s Psychic Paper or K9 will appear as the ‘kit that hasn’t been used in a while’.

    2. One of the kids will instantly realize something about Clara that neither her nor the Doctor had thought of about her being real.

    3. The Doctor more or less gets Cyberised into leading the Cyberman to arise but will have a split personality/self-conflicting.

    4. The cybermen’s weakness this time will most likely be a human emotion still being present, thus killing them/drives them mad; or they get wet and are electrocuted…

    5. One of the kids gets possessed/turned into a cyberman, possibly.

Tell me what you guys think of my predictions. Pretty sure my first one will be right, probably the Psychic Paper or K9.

this for some bizzare reason reminds me of earthshock

      May 4th, 2013 - 9:38pm

I know why your thinking of Earthshock, it’s because the last bit of the new look Cybermen walking towards us left, right and centre at 0:31 / 0:39 is identical to the end of one part of the Earthshock story when the Cyberleader faces the Doctor and says “My army awaits, Doctor !”.

    • timelord327

      May 4th, 2013 - 9:21pm

asylum of the dalek’s wasn’t that bad!?!

    • Tardis’nt

      May 4th, 2013 - 9:28pm

Asylum was an ok story imo, but as the cybermen are my favourite baddies, I will definitely like this more.

Also, why does everybody hate the children?

    • Anonymous

      May 4th, 2013 - 11:08pm

I like Asylum of the Daleks but the Daleks would not just let the Doctor leave in his TARDIS at the end, even if they had forgotten him, an intruder on board a Dalek ship would just be killed on sight and why did the Doctor just leave a whole Dalek parliament just floating in the sky and not think of a plan to blow it up

The Dalek episode was a massive disappointment. S.Moffat said that EVERY type of Dalek will return. I did n’t see the Necros Dalek. At least one classic Dalek could have spoke.

    • Matt Smithy

      May 4th, 2013 - 7:43pm

Well, if there is a picture of a closing time cyber man in the PREVIEW OF THIS EPISODE, and a distinct outline of a closing time cyber man in this trailer, and 2 closing time cyber men in plain sight in this trailer too, take a wild guess 😀

    • Doctor Stu

      May 4th, 2013 - 7:46pm

Told me I was posting comments too quickly >:( Basically, I said “Sorry Doctor Stu, Didn’t realise you hadn’t seen the trailer yet :/ And Tardis’nt Yea since re-watching the trailer I noticed. I think Mondasian cyber men will be in this episode, and I have a pretty convincing Idea for the story arc, and why it was called “the last cyber man”.” Again, sorry Doctor Stu 🙁

It looks a lot like some kind of remake of tomb of the cybermen, after that last scene, and considering old cybermen were there, it may be some kind of resurrection. And the original name was ‘The Last Cybermen’ which implies they’re fewer cybermen, then more will be created. The old cybermen did have the Cybus logo on their chest plate though! Hope they aren’t Cybus again, I think it’s time to go back now!
