Radio Times – BBC Not Ruled Out Female Doctor Poll

BBC Not Ruled Out Female Doctor

From The Radio Times

The new Doctor could be handed the keys to the TARDIS as early as next month, BBC sources have confirmed – with insiders suggesting Matt Smith’s replacement needs to be announced before the Doctor Who Christmas special begins filming next month.

The Twelfth Doctor is expected to first appear on screen at the end of the Christmas special, following the regeneration of Matt Smith’s Doctor.

It would be virtually impossible to keep the identity of the new doctor a secret even if the entire set went into lockdown during filming of the Christmas special, a BBC source told RadioTimes.com.

“The search has begun in earnest and is active now,” the source said, adding that the BBC has not ruled out hiring a woman to replace Matt Smith.

So like so many other we ask the question – yes of no!…

i have a weird feeling that it will be an older, say 59 year old man. most likely Scottish, they will keep their accent and will be a fan favorite! my best guess for an actor is Peter Capaldi. but this is just a completely uninformed guess.

I would have thought Moffat and the BBC would have had enough common sense to rule this out immediately.

I think a big Chang might be interesting. It won’t be bad if the doctor becomes a woman this time!

It could be anyone remember the doctor started out as an old man then became younger and then went older again. There needs to be some variation of between the ages of actors.

Just read doctor who series 8 may not air until august 2014 (can’t wait 8 months for new episodes!!!!). My real wish for series 8 is they introduce a male companion to go with the 12th doctor and clara. And if i’m being really really gready i want the return of davros for the series finale.

I’d like a male companion too, we haven’t really had a new one for ages.

The last proper male companion was Turlough who was in introduced in Season 20. Rory came in in Season 31 (27 years later!) In terms of how often we get proper male companions, Rory is very recent!

Yeah, but Rory always felt like Amy’s companion to me, rather than the Doctor’s companion. He was an important and fun character of course, but he never felt like *the* companion.

I’d like to see a solo/main male companion, even if just for a while. 😀

What about Captain Jack and Mickey they were companions of the Doctor they might have been short companions but they were still companions

‘Last proper companion’. ie Someone who traveled with the Doctor for a long period of time and not just for a couple of episodes. Otherwise do we count Adam…

When Tom Baker was giving up the role BBC let out a rumor the next Doctor could be a woman. They had their highest viewers until after the regeneration. They kept the new Doctors name secret until the airing of the show.

First of all the new series isn’t as good as the old series.Secondly I’m not particularly fond of the idea of a woman doctor but I would be extremely happy if Alex Kingston (River-song) was the new doctor but shes dead (not in real life but in the episode)…..

Actually the guy from twilight would be a all rite doctor who but Matt smith and David Tennant (Especially Matt)were the BEST 🙂

i don’t think that would work, as every1 would always see him as a crazed vampire married to a depressed girl who went through a painful childbirth. along with his child who has a strange name…
trust me, it can never work.

The doctor can either be male or female, they have to be a great actor. Matt Smith had an amazing portrayal, the character should be young and attractive, I mean why would the doc regenerate to someone older. He could be a ginger,so he can finally get what he wanted.

“Young and attractive’ isn’t everything lol. Much of the fanbase is older, plus there is a lot of skill and experience that comes with being ‘older’ (not that any of the recent Doctors could be considered ‘old’ anyway).

I personally don’t care how young/’old’ the actor is, male/female or whatever race, they simply need to be a good actor and do justice to the series.

I agree that we need a ginger Doctor eventually. 😀 I was always hoping Benedict Cumberbatch would fill that niche, but now he’s off doing ‘hollywood’ stuff, I doubt we’ll see him in DW any time soon.
