Doctor who doing very well when compared to other sunday dramas. The cry (eps 3) gained 4.6m and is a success according to the BBC and itv’s butterfly gained 2.8m, so who’s 6m+ is very good.

I’m stuck in the mid to late 00’s where TV was much more slower paced and you could actually enjoy it. the 00’s was a more simpler time, you didn’t have to shell out hundreds of pounds worth of investments just to get your TV fill. like the time meddler in the episode, i am stuck in the past myself and i quite enjoy it; my friend likes to milk how funny he thinks that is given his is thirsty for upgrades and i’m not. Back in the 50’s you feasibly could leave your back door unlocked with a certain amount of trust in the neighbourhood, today we have the NSA, the big brother state and GCHQ spying on everything in the hopes that they catch the 0.001% of “terrorists” that apparently exist. The rich and ruling elite like the Rothschilds are the real terrorist.

I’m old fashioned, slightly stuck in the mid to late noughties. I don’t particularly like how technology is being pushed down all out throats. I prefer watching things on TV off the bat, my friend really likes to milk how funny he thinks my old fashioned techniques are. Like the time meddler in the episode, i happen to enjoy the past; much more slower and life being more comfortable and not so big brother oriented. you theoretically could leave your doors unlocked back in the 50’s. I prefer the 00’s as tech was advanced and slow enough for me to actually have a good time with it.

Seems very good, especially in a time when 9/10 people would probably rather watch things on a computer/tablet/phone at a time of their choosing.

There’s no way at all these figures mean they’d need to change the show or change the doctor at all XD

this site has only ever had the same 2 people involved, Luke (who’s site this is) who does all the technical stuff and wordpress coding as well as the entire Doctor Who guide, history, timeline etc sections and me (booboo) who does all the news, merchandise posts, merchandise images and moderating.

It’s still much higher than Series 10. The Pilot had over 7 million, but dropped to just over 5 million, at little over 5.5 million by the end of the series. 6.4 million for episode 3 isn’t too bad.

    One tenth of the population….

And this isn’t including post-initial watches on catch-up and iPlayer.

Yeah, but they are amazing when you consider that general audiences don’t consume media in the same way anymore. Gone are the days of strict airtime viewing. We are in an age of online viewing and catch-up TV! Also Sunday prime slot for most television viewers is 8pm-10pm, 6pm-7pm is definitely the early evening slot.

Correction. I thought I was reading 6.8 instead of 6.4 which makes for a decline compared to episode 1 of nearly 22% which is virtually on par by Capaldi’s “Robot Of Sherwood”

I predicted 6.8 million. So not too bad a prediction from me. I reckon the next episode will see a slight increase from 6.4 million to 6.7 million. Instinct tells me this will be the norm throughout the rest of this series, between 6 and 7 million is where it will likely average out for first night viewers. If there is a further drops however, then the next series will have to be rethought, maybe even with a new Doctor. But, we are still a long way from that. I do believe it will stay above 6 million for the rest of the series.

And IF the final figure isn’t higher or by that much that’s by my maths without recording/streaming a drop of around 17% for episode 3 compared to episode 1 and which, compared with an approximate 23.5% drop ion the same basis from Peter Capaldi’s debut by Robot of Sherwood, while still less of a decline allowance has to be made for the novelty factor for a higher starting figure and we have to see how overall the series bears up. I wouldn’t be surprised though if there’s a spike in viewing figures again if next weeks “Arachnids in the UK ” is any good.

Viewing figures are not that good when you think this is Sunday prime slot not Saturday night by end of it’s run I think it will be about 3 million

Hopefully the final figure will indeed be higher. I agree that this is still good for the modern world, but let’s look at series 8 for a minute. ‘Deep Breath’ got 6.8 million overnight and ‘Into the Dalek’ got 5.2 million. ‘Robot of Sherwood’ then *also* got 5.2 million. There was no drop in overnight viewing figures between episode 2 and episode 3. I was kind of hoping for the same here.

Forgot to say that 6.4 is still very good in the modern world and I agree with boo boo below that the final figure will be much higher

Be interesting to see the final figures for this and ghost monument. I’ve said this before though, that viewing figures are meaningless when trying to compare popularity. For most of the classic era there were only three channels, and only four towards the end. Most people site the viewing figures for Tom baker’s city of death, forgetting or ignoring that itv were on strike during this period, meaning there was nothing else too watch! We are extremely lucky to have got doctor who back in 2005 and are still extremely lucky to have it now, in large part this isn’t due to UK fans but the surge in countries around the world watching. Don’t panic about viewing figures, but equally don’t panic if the show did get cancelled again, I’m thoroughly enjoying the new series but it is only a t.v. show, whether it’s on or not makes no difference. It won’t be cancelled, Jodie is great and very popular among younger fans (and this old one) as to the future of the show, wait and see

I have a feeling the time shift on this will be quite large with the amount of attention this episode is receiving
