Series 10 Episode 3 Thin Ice 7.20pm Saturday 29th April

Written by Sarah Dollard and directed by Bill Anderson.

In Regency England, beneath the frozen Thames, something is stirring.

The Doctor and Bill arrive at the last of the great frost fairs, and find themselves investigating a string of impossible disappearances – people have been vanishing on the ice! Bill is about to discover that the past is more like her world than she expected, and that not all monsters come from outer space…

The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas.

Does this episode have any connection to the Ice Warriors and The Empress of Mars episode. I seem to remember that that episode had Victorian Soldiers???

No it’s not that one yet. The Ice Warriors and the Empress appear in episode 9 ‘The Empress of Mars’ by Mark Gatiss. Although it could be easy to confuse ‘Thin Ice’ with the ‘Big Finish’ audio adventure, which DID feature the Ice Warriors…but no Empress.

This is the Regency era. Not Victorian times!

Its still not explained why the doctor has to stay on earth and keep an eye on the vault, and who has told him to guard it ????

Perhaps the vault contains the announcement of yet another Oak Furniture Land Sale event!!!

I wish they could have chosen a different title than ‘Thin Ice’. It’s exactly the same title as a Big Finish ‘The Lost Stories’ audio, starring Sylvester McCoy. I sometimes wish Ian Levine was kept on as continuity advisor… :-\

      Yeah, Continuity is needed.

We’ve had broadcast episodes reuse titles in the past, never mind expanding it to other media. There’s going to be a finite combination of words you can put together, eventually overlap happens.

I liked how Smile led into this episode directly, also looking forward to what appears to be an actual elephant on set!

Sarah Dollard left me impressed with Face the Raven and I hope she can perform similarly or even better here!
