Doctor Who/David Tennant NTA Wins

Doctor Who has won best Drama at this years National Television awards.

It came up against Casualty, Channel 4′s Shameless and ITV1′s The Bill. The award was collected by David Tennant, Bernard Cribbins, June Whitfield and Elisabeth Sladen. David Tennant handed the honours of the acceptance speech to Bernard Cribbins.

David Tennant has also won best Actor coming up against Philip Glenister ( Ashes to Ashes), David Jason ( A Touch of Frost) and David Threlfall (Shameless)

Bernard Cribbins appeared on The Alan Titchmarsh today and talked partly about his up coming role in David Tennants last story – The End of Time.

The loose women interview included a previously unseen sequence of him in the Tardis – and he wasn’t impressed!

When Bernard Cribbins speaks, it is not uncommon to see the faces around him light up. Of course, these might belong to folk in their early middle age who are transported back by that unmistakable, expressive voice to the BBC series The Wombles in the early 1970s, or any one of over a hundred appearances on the oral storytelling series Jackanory.

And he’s still, at the age of 80, entertaining audiences young and old, recently recording audio books for The Wind In The Willows and David Benedictus’ new Winnie The Pooh stories.

But if his voice is recognisable to an older generation, his face will be well known to today’s young audience as that of Donna’s grandfather in the current run of Doctor Who, which culminates in two specials over the festive period.

John Barrowman / Bernard Cribbins interviews

John Barrowman appeared on GMTV with Lorraine Kelly and although he talked very little about Doctor Who and Torchwood he did confirm that he will be in the Doctor Who Specials to be shown over Christmas and the new year. He also talked about how the role had changed his life.

In other news Bernard Cribbins is to be presented with a Special Award at the EA British Academy Children’s Awards for his outstanding creative contribution to the industry.

Bafta Interview including David Tennant…

The Award ceremony will take place on Sunday 29 November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

BAFTA Chief Executive, Amanda Berry said:

“Bernard Cribbins has made an amazing contribution to children’s entertainment throughout his outstanding career. He was very much loved for his story-telling on Jackanory – he holds the record for appearing on the show 110 times – and is still entertaining children today, now playing Wilfred Mott in ‘Doctor Who’. He is a worthy recipient of this year’s Special Award; in fact he deserved it a long time ago! We are absolutely delighted he has accepted.”

Bernard, who will collect the Award from his Doctor Who co-star Catherine Tate, commented:

“It is truly an honour to receive this award from the British Academy. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with and for children throughout my career and am privileged to have been involved with some amazing projects.”
