The Time Lord turns up in Macedonia, Captain Jack Harkness speaks Hungarian and CGI dinosaurs roar through the Czech Republic. Sci-fi will sweep Central and Eastern Europe as BBC Worldwide signs a deal which sees 114 hours of entertainment from Doctor Who, Torchwood and Primeval being beamed into homes across the region, from Poland and Romania to as far afield as Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Montenegro. The sci-fi hits will air on Sony Pictures Television’s AXN SCI-FI and AXN channels.

Eddie Nelson, GM of Sony Pictures Television’s networks businesses in the region said: “We are delighted to secure such a fantastic selection of BBC shows for AXN and AXN SCI-FI. The addition of these exciting new titles to our schedule further reinforces our channels’ reputation as the destination for world-class TV entertainment in Central and Eastern Europe.”

Torchwood America – Maybe not

According to The Hollywood reporter an American version of Torchwood is being developed.

According to reports fox has now stated this will not go ahead although talks with other networks are continuing

Torchwood Exclusive: Huge news for sci-fi fans: Fox is developing a stateside version of the U.K. hit series “Torchwood.”

A more straight-faced spinoff of “Doctor Who,” “Torchwood” is about a covert group that investigates and fights alien activity. Two series aired domestically on BBC America as well as last year’s well reviewed stand-alone miniseries, “Children of Earth,” which broke all ratings records for the network.

Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, “Torchwood” fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies’ producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).

Also, some of the current cast — most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness — might star if Fox orders “Torchwood” to pilot.

There has been a large timeshift of over 1.5 million but this still leaves the programme third, however, When you add in the simultaneous BBC HD broadcast figures (470.000) Doctor Who was in fact the most watched programme of the day.

The loose women interview included a previously unseen sequence of him in the Tardis – and he wasn’t impressed!

June Whitfield appeared on breakfast TV an although she said very little about her role in The End of time they showed another clip form the Christmas special.Again if you don’t want this spoiled don’t watch!…

Cardiff Bay Drama Village…

The BBC’s Welsh “drama village” could be built in Cardiff Bay’s Roath Basin.

Proposals for the complex have emerged in a planning application submitted for the area.

The planning application seeks permission for a 300m long, 20,000 square metre building housing studios and offices with a distinctive façade and repeating motifs.

It will also have a gothic-style entrance inspired by some of William Burges’ designs at Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch.

The application to Cardiff Council states that it creates a “highly theatrical character for the building”.

The building includes several television studios to house Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures as well as offices.

Torchwood Hub entrance Flooded…

The entrance to the Torchwood Hub, more recently a shrine to Ianto has been flooded, tributes left in memory of Ianto can be seen floating away.

Tardis Towers…

Caerphilly Castle is playing host to a futuristic visitor over the Christmas period.

After travelling through time and space Doctor Who’s Tardis has landed at Wales’ largest moated medieval castle.

The blue police box which is located on top of the Inner East Gatehouse tower will be lit up during the night and will stay there until the New Year.

The castle was used to film some scenes for the two part Christmas episode of Doctor Who, entitled The End of Time.

Why spend thousands of pounds to make an episode of one of the most popular TV series of the time, only to leave it gathering dust in the archive?

Thirty years ago, with only three channels to choose from, Doctor Who and Secret Army on BBC One and The Professionals on ITV routinely delivered audiences bigger than even the most successful programmes do today.

Yet between 1978 and 1979, the producers of all three programmes shelved a story from each.

The explanation has much to do with that period: economic decline, political inertia and industrial unrest creating a combustible combination.
