I swear that on the third image of where all the doctors run pass clara, the third one is the tenth doctor. The coat is too long and his hair looks more like 10’s

    • Anonymous

the coat is too pale to be 10s and you can see the red trim on the pocket so it is 5s

Why do the Gallifrey Techs say someone is about to steal a “TARDIS” and not a “Type 40”, when Susan in “Unearthly Child” says she made up the name “TARDIS”?

    • Dalek: the Supreme

Other models have been called TARDIS before.

actually its proper name is a type-40 TT capsule

    • Bean

      May 20th, 2013 - 7:48am

This happens a lot in the show. Time Lords referring to it as a TARDIS and not a TT capsule (Robert Delgado Master, Invasion of Time, Deadly Assassin, etc.). It’s usually done to avoid confusing the audience, or because the writers got confused or forgot. The idea is that the Doctor traveled around in his “past” and “present” and spread the word into Gallifray’s vernacular, re-writting time so it was a common phrase.

It’s the same way when you go to a mechanic you are not bringing in your automobile. in your mind, you’re bringing in your car. it was an easier name for them to remember and use.

Wonder why they used 5 Doctors version of Pertwee, as he looks a little older than he really should.

    • Bean

      May 20th, 2013 - 7:49am

It was in color, they had to restore or leave B/W the older ones, but it was easier for them to find a color one. The third doctor is also from that episode.

    • Anonymous

      May 20th, 2013 - 9:48am

All the Jon Pertwee episode are in colour, so this answer doesn’t make sense…

      But most were.

no they are all in colour now, (mind of evil was done last year)

    • Dorothy

      May 20th, 2013 - 11:51am

No, a few parts of the early Pertwee episodes were black and white. I remember being surprised because I expected everything in to be in color.

    • Peter

      May 20th, 2013 - 12:15pm

I’m guessing they used the Five Doctors footage because it still exists on film and so can be used in HD, rather than original 70s Pertwee footage which would all be on video tape.

    • Ian

      May 20th, 2013 - 2:34pm

Pertwee’s adventures were ALL shot and transmitted in colour. Many were lost when the BBC recycled loads of the old videotape, leaving only black and white masters. Most of these have been restored to colour now as well.

    • Chris

      May 20th, 2013 - 3:44pm

I thought spearhead from space was the 1st doctor who shot and filmed in color if so then all of the pertwee stories are color

    May 20th, 2013 - 12:10am

This episode was a major let down for me. I didn’t like it because they didn’t reveal the Doctor’s name like the title says. I was expecting them to give us the name of the Doctor. The Doctor played by John Hurt, is he a future incarnation of the Doctor? I sure hope that the 50th Anniversary special isn’t a major let down like this episode and Journey To The Center of the TARDIS.

    • Damien Wade

      May 20th, 2013 - 2:11am

“I didnโ€™t like it because they didnโ€™t reveal the Doctorโ€™s name like the title says.” River Song didn’t get married in the series 6 final, as far as I’m concerned The Doctor isn’t married to the TARDIS and Jenny technically isn’t his child.

    • Dalek: the Supreme

      May 20th, 2013 - 4:13am

I see where you’re coming from, Damien, but he did get married in The Wedding of River Song and considers River his wife, as he considers Jenny his daughter.

    • Anonymous

      May 20th, 2013 - 4:25am

I believe it would’ve been a bigger let down if they did reavel his name. The whole story of doctor who is his secrets. There would no longer be any mystery if they just traveled his name. This is what makes the show suspenseful and interesting.

    • Pierce

      May 20th, 2013 - 4:59am

I think the more accurate name for the episode would have been ‘In The Name Of The Doctor’, meaning, what that ‘Doctor’ did wasn’t ‘In The Name Of The Doctor’

    • CrazyAboutWho

      May 20th, 2013 - 5:50am

Journey to the Center of the Tardis was awesome, as was this episode. I was hoping that they WOULDN’T tell us his name, I really don’t want to know. He’s the doctor. Done.

    • DoctorWhom

      May 20th, 2013 - 11:08am

The title was referencing what Matt says at the end to Hurt’s Doctor.
“But you didn’t do it in the name of The Doctor!” Nothing to do with his actual name but revealing that one of The Doctor’s broke the bond that the other Doctor kept, to help people (Well in Seventh’s case that is highly debatable but never mind, let us go with this idea). So yes the name was never going to be revealed it was just implied that it was.

    • Laura

      May 21st, 2013 - 1:06am

Steven Moffat has even said that he would never want to know what the actual name of the Doctor is, no matter what it was, it would be a let down. The entire point of the show is Doctor WHO? The title is a trap pretty much to gain attention and lead to what Eleven says at the end, what has been done in the the name of the Doctor.

    • Imagine Wizard

      May 27th, 2013 - 1:58am

Then you miss the point of the episode.
It’s actually a clever misdirection by Moffat. What we all thought the episode was promising was his name. It wasn’t, it was revealing what his name represented. Id est ‘[Whar you did] was not in *the Name of the Doctor*.’

Haha not quite. From what I’ve heard, it’s a secret past regeneration that nobody knew about, from when the doctor did something that was “”in the name of sanity, but not in the name of the doctor”. I’m guessing that maybe John Hurt’s doctor could have been the one that put the time lock on the time lords and the daleks during the time war. Just a guess.

    • Anonymous

      May 19th, 2013 - 9:46pm

from what I’ve read, he IS the 9th incarnation during the Time War and was the one who destroyed the TimeLords and Daleks. It has been assumed that McGann’s Doctor was the one fighting the War when in actuality he had regenerated and became Hurt. The rest of his incarnations do not consider him worthy of the Title of Doctor and discredit his incarnation and it was Eccleston’s incarnation who reclaimed the Title of Doctor, making him the 10th, Tannant the 11th and Smith the 12th. But where he was discredited it seems that he was non-existent…it’s all confusing really, but the show always has been since day 1. He IS in fact one giant enigma. The one thing I didn’t like in this episode was the use of Smith’s TARDIS interior as the final one. Moffat should have at least changed the interior for the tomb. You know, to some future design not yet seen.

After the series ended there were a few ways to continue it, like books. There was a series of books stating it was the 8th doctor, the same one in the movie, who ended the time war. It depends in if you count the books as series relevant. Although other things have changed since they bought the series back…

    • Leah

      May 19th, 2013 - 8:37pm

Exactly mojo! Amy loves her best friend and son-in-law but is not “in love” with The Doctor. Clara knew The Doctor wasn’t himself in Hedgewick’s World of Wonders when he started hitting on her! She is not “in love” with The Doctor any more than Amy is. And B Anonymous, all The Doctor’s companions have been, smart, quirky, strong, vulnerable, brave, and loving. What show have you been watching? Moffat is a genious! I do agree, though, that I though there would be more to Clara. I’m hanging my hat, and my opinion of Moffat’s brilliance, on the 50’th Anniversary special in November. John Hurt!!! I can’t wait!!

Watch the Second Doctor clip, Clara first sees somebody (the Eighth Doctor) but then the Second Doctor runs past her in the other direction and she goes after him.

    • mixedvortex

      May 22nd, 2013 - 8:36am

This notion that the 8th Doctor is briefly seen at the start of the clip for the 2nd is pretty flimsy. It doesn’t really look like 8 at all. I don’t think 8 was in it, period; which is really sad.

I think the whole 2nd Doctor clip is a combination of The Five Doctors scene and footage of a 2nd Doctor stand-in. They staged it like the 2nd Doctor nearly knocks Clara over, which required some kind of stand-in to run past her. Remember the heavily rumored sightings of an actor dressed as the 2nd Doctor during filming for the finale? I think this scene is where that all comes in to play.

On a side note, does anyone think both the 1st and 2nd Doctor stand-ins used here could be the actors that were hired for An Adventure In Space And Time?

    • mixedvortex

      May 23rd, 2013 - 7:02am

Ok, it does indeed look like the 8th before the 2nd. My bad. I hadn’t been able to get the pause and slo-mo right. I see him now. I still think they used both a stand-in and the five doctors clip for 2 sort of like they did with 1, though.

Yeah, I was lamenting severe lack of 8. (I thought the movie rights had been cleared up since there are DVD releases in both the US and the UK, and since we’ve seen at least brief clips of 8 in ‘The Next Doctor’ and such?) I think you’re right about that at least having been a body double for him right before we see 2. May 19th, 2013 - 5:38pm

I hadn’t realized that was the 10th Doctor in the Library. I end up thinking it was Gallifrey with some guy standing on the right hand side, not knowing it was the 10th Doctor, but I guess cos it was quite a quick moment, you may not notice straight away first time around.

The colourized footage of the 1st Doctor from the Aztec’s reminded me of the colourized clips made by Babelcolour on YouTube.

After the episode, I had a feeling in me that said “I bet Babelcolour feels he could have done a lot better colourizing the footage then whoever actually did it for this episode” ๐Ÿ˜€

    • pathdw98

    • Allie

      May 19th, 2013 - 5:44pm

The 9th and 10th doctors were played by David Tennant and Christopher Eccelson (not sure how to spell his name). The rest of the doctors were clips that were edited in.

The clothing looked more like barbaras. Susan mostly wore sweater and trousers in the first season, while barbara wore a dress.

@Mary: Do you know which episode the shot was taken from?

It was Susan. Barbara was not with The Doctor when he left Gallifrey.

Thank you for doing this, I was going to do something similar, but you did it so much better!

Also, seeing as this series is over and the episode is defiantly a build up to the 50th, maybe change the banner to a 50th countdown ? I doubt we will get any more Doctor Who before then ๐Ÿ˜€

do you mean episodes, cus if you do then quite obviously we are not, considering that was the end of series 7 and series 8 is not due to start filming until end of this year/beginning of next

Why are you taking everyone’s comments so literally? Obviously I knew that there is no more episodes ANNOUNCED, but you never know, the BBC may have a surprise waiting for us or something as unlikely as it seems. Plus Booboo didn’t want to rush to conclusions on the doctor/Susan front just in case. As mad this idea might seem, you don’t know anything for sure until you check. And YOU don’t know everything on first glance ether. OBIVOUSLY I didn’t mean episodes, I just meant on the off chance that a mini-sode/ surprise event happens. Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning…
