The Return of Doctor Mysterio 5.45pm Christmas Day

This Christmas sees The Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure.

With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost.

Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

After watching that trailer I now know that this episode will be Christmassy. Watching the clip made me think is this just a Christmas special but with no Christmas in it but the trailer shows the Christmas stuff in it so that’s good.

By the way I don’t mean the trailer above, I mean the episode trailer with footage from it.

I am still going to watch it, but after seeing the trailer, it just doesnt scream doctor who….. its more like a trailer for an american series, like a pilot episode.

I dont see the poing of having the female character, let alone Nardole, i feel it could have introduced Bill into the series.

I did like Husbands of River Song last year, but this, i dont know. Like i say, it just isnt saying Doctor Who Christmas special to me.

On the plus side, at least it looks a lot better than the abismal Doctor, Widow and the Wardrobe though.

Moffat teases about the villains “theyve been around before, and quite recently. And there’s a sinister plan afoot to conquer earth.” In the radio times. I’ve seen a lot of people with scars on their faces in the trailers. Maybe it’s the race from husband’s of river song with scars on their faces.

The foes look similar to those seen in the hospital in ‘The Power of Three’.

I never thought I’d say this but I’m really looking forward to this episode! It looks so so so good compared to the last two Christmas specials and I already love Husbands of River Song!

Christmas episodes seem to be where new doctors start (David Tennant in The Christmas Invasion), or where the doctors are leaving (David Tennant in The End of Time and Matt Smith in The Time of the Doctor). Is it therefore a safe bet that the 2017 Christmas Special will be Peter Capaldi’s last story…

I think new Christmas special is wonderful and different since first Christmas special at the years 2005 and first Christmas message from first Doctor play by William Hartnell

Has everybody been too wrapped up in time of broadcast/don’t like this, that or the other/what’s the best previous Christmas special (a survey which would make more sense after this one has aired really) to have actually watched the CIN clip? The villains seem to be the Harmony Shoal science research associates & the guy with the gun has what appears to be a feint diagonal scar from hairline to jaw. Does that sound familiar to anyone else or have I just watched the Husbands of River Song too much?
On the subject of super heroes in DW, I was skeptical but on reflection I’m looking forward to finding out what it’s about. Is he an alien/technological construct? Does he know what he is or does he think he’s human with superpowers? IS he a human with superpowers? While the majority on here seem to be determined to be grumpy, I’ll wait & see whether there’s any reason to be.

Apparently The Doctor accidentally gives him super-powers. Perhaps he’s experimenting on the top of someone’s house (based on a promo) and it accidentally malfunctions and gives the super-hero (Grant Gordon, or, ‘The Ghost’) powers.

To be honest, I might not watch this. In my opinion Doctor Who has gone downhill now, the BBC have turned it into a marketing gimmick. I’ll probably be watching Doctor Who stories I have on DVD near Christmas instead.

Opinions are opinions, but when I want to watch Doctor Who I usually get a DVD from the shelf, I quite liked Series 8 and the first half of Series 9, but the second half of the latter disappointed me. I know I should watch it really but from the trailers I’ve seen it doesn’t look that great.

I think that the show has really taken a negative turn. I was okay with Peter Capaldi, but everything after the very first episode he was in, I found quite mediocre. He is a fine actor, but where is the writing? It’s hard to believe that the people who turned out Christmas specials like “The Snowmen” or “A Christmas Carol” are writing episodes about superheroes and sonic specs.
The Doctor has lost his caring towards people. Everything that made him endearing is gone- and it isn’t Capaldi’s fault. It’s the writing. The production values have gone down as well.
To be perfectly honest, this plot summary was the nail in a coffin.

I hope they bring the dalek eternal back at some point, I would like a definitive answer as to what it does, and a canonical reason as to why the paradigm daleks are gone, perhaps the eternal could be the “dalek caan” of the paradigm, that would be a satisfactory conclusion as to the moffat era daleks.
The next executive producer should bring back the killing with the plunger, the rotating midriff and the bullet melting forcefield that the daleks used in season one and season two.

If you think about it it’s basically being shown at 6pm I think the 5:45 makes it sound so much earlier than it is. It’s only an hour earlier than normal and the Christmas schedule is all over the place on Christmas Day anyway as they have the Christmas movies, queens speech, eastenders Christmas Day special and they need to slot Mrs Browns boys in somewhere so doctor who has just been squeezed in where it can fit

Well, the later a programme is shown on Christmas Day usually means the higher the “general” audience figure is. I’m sure Doctor Who would be given a boost being shown around 7pm. At 5.45 half the country are still stuffing brussel sprouts!

Viewing figures are pretty much irrelevant these days. They are only used by the red tops to stir up their ‘falling ratings’ stories. I have never missed a single episode of DW since 2005 yet I could count on 1 hand how many times I’ve watched them live to broadcast over the last 5 years….so according to the papers I am 1 of the millions that have stopped watching the show. Its all poppycock.

Oh dear, another early time slot! Series 9 was scheduled to late now this is too early! Doctor Who is pitched as a 7pm drama, and that is when the BBC should try to show it. It’s difficult on Christmas Day yes, but come on! Still, it’s not quite as bad as previous years.
