Doctor Who fans angered by trailer for Over the Rainbow

From The BBC…
Thousands of Doctor Who fans have contacted the BBC to complain that the ending of Saturday night’s episode was ruined by a trailer for the next show.

A formal apology as now been given which you can see Here

The on-screen caption featured an animated cartoon of presenter Graham Norton, host of Over the Rainbow.

It appeared as The Doctor, played by Matt Smith, was making an emotional speech during the story’s cliffhanger ending for The Time of Angels.

The trailer was seen by millions of viewers watching on BBC One in England.

A BBC spokesman said: “We apologise for the timing of Saturday night’s trail.”

I have all episodes recorded, so had to record the BBC Three repeat…

Yes, I prefer the Three logo to Graham Norton…

Just to say firstly, it did annoy me as well but I don’t get it. A couple thousand people out of millions complain and they send a promise it won’t happen again and a formal apology but they ignore the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of doctor who fans complaining about the new lollipop daleks. All I can say is I hope Davros is still alive then they may one day use that as an excuse to bring back the proper daleks and I CAN wait for the cybermen episode(s) ,if they have changed everything else you can bet they will change them too :(

Terrible! Complained, with no prompting. Glad it won’t happen over The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood.

Didn’t affect me because i was watching it on BBC HD but i would have been annoyed if i was watching it on BBC One.

I was already frustrated with this episode because there was something wrong with my TV so the music was so loud you could not hear them talking at all and then I saw they trail and thought they where seriously taking the piss, ruining the suspense to an epic cliff hanger that thousands watch, and complained

We didnt have this problem on BBC scotland, the best episode this series so far. It certainly made my 3 children hide behind the cushions and jump with frightwhen the angels came out of the dark. Seeing them scared watching dr who takes me back to when i watched the late Jon Pertwee. FANTASTIC !

I was immersed in the episode and the trail really irritated me, coming on at the moment it did. I appreciate the Beeb wants to keep as many viewers watching as possible on a Saturday evening but, please, put it on over the end-credits, not during the exciting part of, what to many is, a sacred programme!

It was almost as annoying as the huge continuity error during last week’s episode with the daleks, which spoilt my involvement with the story.

On a positive note however, there is a very nice partnership developing between the new doctor and his assistant and I enjoy the moments of humour they share.

Well, I did notice the thing, but I didn’t may much attention to it, it was a bit annoying though.

Yeah but Doctor Who’s a show no-one watches or cares about APPARANTLY. In my school, I’m among LIKE 5 people in my school who watch the show.
So the BBC have full right to put an advert in and ruin the cliffhanger of an unimportant little sci-fi drama which is currently showing Its THIRTY-FIRST season. (yes, sarcasm intended)

      Shut up.

You aren’t a Doctor Who fan at all by saying that. You’re a disgrace.

I recommend for this video to be deleted, Booboo. It is very vulgar and offensive.

Well the BBC strike again. In the first of the new series that at long last felt like a Doctor Who episode the good old beeb thought lets P everyone off.

So they apologie for the stupid indent over the dramtic climax of part one, but have they said they will not do it again?

  19. Posted by: Weng Chiang April 25th, 2010 Reply

I must admit i found it very distracting at it took the edge of the scene.

    just very unfortunate timing.

    Hopefully it wont happen again

i didnt know because i watch it on bbc hd, but i no what you mean

  21. Posted by: louis April 25th, 2010 Reply

its stupid of bbc to put over the rainbow on while it was the cliffhanger part :(

  22. Posted by: McGann is The Doctor. April 25th, 2010 Reply

Well, it may have been shockingly, infact unbelievabley, foolish and downright THICK for this to have been a huamn beings decision at such a crucial moment in that episode. I didnt find out about it until one hundred and twenty seconds ago, because I watched the episode on
    BBC HD! :D

But still, very very disturbing, the inteligence of the human race is now in question. Not uncommon for someone who hates some of thethings forbidden planet do. The Planet of Evil set? Atleast get the tie right and then Ill cut them some slack!

    LA! Lalalalalala, La! Lah!

  23. Posted by: Dalek Icecream April 25th, 2010 Reply

I enjoyed the trailer more than the episode i don’t know what this fuss is all about.

  24. Posted by: SL April 25th, 2010 Reply

Well I think it ruins the intensity and suspense of the episode on its original airing.. And what would be the point of viewing it on iplayer afterwards for the cliffhanger, the moment was ruined…

  25. Posted by: Last of the Timelords April 25th, 2010 Reply

I was really annoyed when they did this. Doctor Who should not have a crappy advert for a crappy show put in the most dramatic part of the episode. Stupid BBC.

    • Posted by: Intergalactic August 1st, 2011

      Exactly.

  26. Posted by: AlphaOmega April 25th, 2010 Reply

They got angry OVER THIS???? It’s tiny! And it’s at the bottom of the screen. They’d have hardly missed anything. It didn’t affect the speech in any way at all!

  27. Posted by: Tommy April 25th, 2010 Reply

I four one don’t get what people are moaing about. If you were watching Total Wipeout they had one of a Dalek doing the very same and if you are so very bothered about it then play it again on iplayer as I can see you most have PC to do this…

Sorry if this is harsch but some people just need to think on before…

Too big, too distracting and ruined the the intensity of the episode.
Very POOR planning by someone at BBC. Trampled over Doctor Who for a much lesser show.

  29. Posted by: Ray April 25th, 2010 Reply

I suppose there is a time and place for these things but not in a Drama programme and certainly not when they did it.

  30. Posted by: AJ April 25th, 2010 Reply

I hate these ads in general — so annoying! We have software to block pop-up ads on computers, but we’re stuck with them on TV!

  31. Posted by: Kristoff April 25th, 2010 Reply

Interesting to note that The BBC only said “We apologise for the timing of Saturday night’s trail.”, and not that it won’t happen again

  32. Posted by: booboo April 25th, 2010 Reply

It was the timing, right in the middle of the cliffhanger speech, very distracting, some people were ok with it but its got an awful lot annoyed,

  33. Posted by: Charlie April 25th, 2010 Reply

it was a bit stupid of them, didn’t people know that it was on next? or even, wasn’t it stupid to have these trails in the first place?!

  34. Posted by: Keith April 25th, 2010 Reply

I thought it was annoying, but it didn’t annoy me as much as the crappy new Daleks last week.
