I don't like this American hate. It's not as if the Brits haven't taken American shows and remade them.

Not all of us are bad! Most of us actually don't WANT this to happen, so get your facts straight people!

Love the Americans but I hate it when they take a British show and change it to having an all American cast, set in America and with American themes. It just doesn't do any respect for the original shows. it's as if they only will watch it if it's American.I heard talk of a US Dr Who as well (prob not true). No wonder Brits are always typecast as posh snobs in america...that's all they ever see of us! And Welsh don't get any look in at all!Stick to the old Torchwood. It's great. And if it's good quality it's bound to catch on in America sooner or later!

Torchwood US could have been started by anyone-- more likely Martha Jones (who was in New York in 'Stolen Earth' and Mickey Smith, as they were seen freelancing together in 'Journey's End'. Wouldn't be bad to have another companion spin -off!

Just one thing to add to my last post.

Being a Time traveler it's quite possible for Jack to be in two places at once (as he could easily be slightly older) - the limiting factor for having him in both the US and the UK series would be John Barrowman....

They could just have Jack as an animatronic version of his distant-future self. Maybe a small head in a jar with the premise that it will get bigger later...

For it to still be Torchwood, Still be decent, still fit into the storyline and not detract from the original series then:

We know of 3 'Torchwoods'. Torchwood 3 Cardiff, Torchwood 1 London and Torchwood 2 Glasgow. However it's not entirely impossible that their emphasis was spread further than that. Britain was still very much an Empire under Victoria. It's feasible that a Torchwood was planted in 'The Americas' to keep an eye on and subvert the 'former colonies' or even just to steal alien tech from under their noses.

As 2 of the Torchwoods are, as far as we know, gone and the 3rd operates pretty much under its own rules since 2000 there's always the possibility that, if it had an America-based branch, it went 'rogue' when Torchwood 3 did, or even long before.

Can't see anything else believable while still calling it Torchwood. The series would have to have at least Cameo roles by Jack Harkness but everyone seems to be intent that Jack is the UK series so I can't see how he could also be in the US one full time. Russel Grant seems totally convinced there will be another UK run for 2010 so that makes a US full-time role for Jack even less likely. Unless they REALLY plan to overwork John Barrowman.

On series 2 I was quite looking forward to a series without him. Not that I don't think he's a well written character. Just that I like the realism of the death and drama of Torchwood in amongst the complete unreality of the sci-fi premise. Having almost any character 'droppable' was quite a cool way to keep you guessing (of course Owen could always come back 'sans-body' but it's highly unlikely). 'Children of Earth' certainly couldn't have been done without him and his backstory is interesting. If he doesn't play a MAJOR role in both the UK & US series then I wonder what kind of character the US one could replace him with. Someone more normal I hope, in a way. It'd be quite nice for Russel Grant to write a Sci-fi character that was a bit more normal. I mean I remember when the Doctor used to have companions instead of earth-shattering lynchpins that the whole of reality revolves around. Hopefully Moffat will have a slightly lighter touch on the new, new Doctor Who whilst still keeping the drama.

I would say that Gwen is slightly more central than Jack to Torchwood. But that's just me.

Oh and I think the bit about 'rebooting Doctor Who' might just mean that the interest caused by the US Torchwood series might spark an associated interest in 'Doctor Who'.

Personally I think if we're going to have a spinoff Torchwood it should be set some time in the past in Glasgow. Victorian Era Torchwood would be genuine Steampunk and quite interesting to watch.
