Doctor Who – What Did You Think of Hide?

What Did You Think of Hide?

Clara and the Doctor arrive at Caliburn House, a haunted mansion sat alone on a desolate moor.

Within its walls, a ghost-hunting professor and a gifted psychic are searching for the Witch of the Well. Her apparition appears throughout the history of the building, but is she really a ghost? And what is chasing her?

Now that the 4th episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.

Doctor Who is still good, but that episode was mostly just good in atmosphere, FX, filming and acting, the overall direction of the story wasn’t very good.

Don’t get me wrong, twisty turny ploty-wottys are good, but the ones in that story were quite …eh, I dunno, they didn’t work ?

It’s like trying to have an ice cream but lets put a flake on it, oh yay, a flake ! But we can only have a quarter of a flake that fell on the floor.

If you can’t do a good plot twist, don’t do one atall ❗

For the special effects and resources of the show, they really need a proper amazing good story. The kind of story that’s long and strong enough to be a novel, not a 45 minute romp ❗

These 45 minute episodes don’t feel like proper stories, they feel like little bonus stories, they’re so short ! ❗

this episode wasern’t a good episode but then again it wasern’t bad. there where some good parts like the continuaty references( although matt smith pronounces Metabelis wrong its prounounced met-a-bee-lis and the ending kinda rewind thefeel of thie episode the idea that the monster’s plot was to get back so that he can( lets just say reverse the polarity of the nutron flo) with that other monster yuck. The acting was good. I give this episode a 4/10 only because I felt this story went nowhere

some new alien menace. or for old times sake, the yeti and great intelligence. I,ve given the idea, now someone should let steven moffat or fraser hines know by e-mail,and someone decent to execute a decent storyline.

why,ll the stories from this season are fine for younger kids (the exception being the excellent’angels take manhattan’,it does seem like stven moffat is losing his way a bit.Wheres the real tensin and scares of old.Thy should use the hinchliffe era as a template for good scary who. Also i do think they should consider going back to two parter cliffhangers for the full next series.

      April 24th, 2013 - 3:59pm

Not every story, but most of them

Every 2012 and 2013 episode so far has been half as long as a classic era story, with the exception of the Snowmen: in 1985 you had a 45 minute part each week, with atleast two for every story.

Now we have one 45 minute story.

      Kinda sucks ! ❗

    • THE ERGON

      April 26th, 2013 - 12:33pm

Phillip hinchliffe. Should have mentioned before, sorry. But yeah, they should go back to the two or even four parters. Think of the money they could save on sets and other guests, but more importantly taking more time could focus more on storyline and character development. Slow the pace a little so clara and the doctor could have the sort of conversations like the 3rd doctor and jo used to have. It shouldn,t all be dashing around.

    • 11matt

What has seriously gone wrong with who’s episode: Hide!

The acting and special effects are always world class, but the direction, script and overall arc left me very cold and somewhat disappointed, much like having all the ingredients for a cake that somehow wasn’t cooked right and left a bad taste in one’s mouth. Here we encountered a wonderful scary ghost story turned sci fi, turned love story, well you get the point. The focus was lost. The characters of clarion oswald oswin (maybe a physical emination of the tardis itself) was not developed and the doctor was all over the shop. After the rings episode that frankly was abysmal, is it the end for who? It all starts with the writing and writers knowing the who universe. Clara by now should have been more developed. maybe they dumbed it down for the American audience? The Tenant years were a dream come true and early Mat Smith, perfect. The Cold War left me cold and the ice warrior would have been more convincing leaving the earth alone if the Doctor simply stated ” we found you down there, who knows how many more of you are down there” leaving the arc for future episode development, rather than begging for mercy. I did not know clara could fly the tardis into a pocket universe. Clever girl. All in all I hope it picks up in speed, script and character development. If not, it may be delegated to another 20 year hiatus.

I’ve been watching since the beginning of the reboot and I’m in America so I’m pretty sure it isn’t dumbed down for us. It’s Moffat having no direction of where he wants to go. Tennants years were amazing because of Tennant and RTD.

I’m still collecting my thoughts, I thought the episode was a great and terrifying ghost story, with moments that made me terrified. This is on par with Asylum of the Daleks, The Curse of Fenric, Blink, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Resurrection of the Daleks, Tomb of the Cybermen, and The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon as far as scariness goes. However, I’m not sure if the ending is really good or really bad. I’ll have to watch it again to see.

Thanks, Cyberman2. I think this story had good intentions and was scary as heck…until the final plot twist, which made no sense. Also, the time traveller lady (Forgot her name) had nothing to do but get rescued. 6/10
I haven’t seen Planet of the Ood in a while, but from what I remember, it was a great moral story, but I’d have to rewatch it before I made a final decision.

I think what fans need to understand is Doctor Who isn’t all about David Tennant or RTD or the Classic Series. If Doctor Who’s about one thing, it’s change. The Doctor regenerates and a new actor takes over, the companions come and go, and the writers and executive producers come, add their ideas and episodes into the mix, and leave. Even the main monsters evolve. In summary, Doctor Who is a constantly changing show, and if you don’t like change, Doctor Who is not the show for you.

There doesn’t need to be a villain for a story to be great, look at The Girl Who Waited or The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances! Those were both brilliant pieces of work, with no villains. Monsters, maybe, but certainly not villains.

Yes, the 11th Doctor doesn’t care about his companions, that’s why he cried and even went into retirement over Amy and Rory’s death. He’s just become more alien again. My problem with the 10th Doctor is that he seems to have convinced people that the Doctor needs to act human.

I really enjoyed this, thought the monster in the woods was very well done, very evil and disturbing looking. The forest looked very well done also, definitely creepy. I thought the scene where Clara confronted the Doctor about his blase attitude to humanity’s mortality and linear chronologically constrained existence was really done well also. These are the things normal people would ask. Of course though the ending was a let down, it always will be in these 1 episode stories due to the time constraints. 45 mins is just not enough to tell stories of these types properly , and in this era of de-compressed story telling it’s even more off putting to watch.

I have watched doctor who all my life and loved it. It has always been fantastic up Untill series 7 part 2. The doctor has changed and its not good. Intact all the characters are too emotional charged about relationships and it is ruining the whole point of doctor who. It is not supposed to be a romantically love story. I like the air of mistery that used to be there.
Very disappointed but will keep watching in hope that it will improve 🙁

What about the mystery of the Doctor’s name? Or who Clara is? I think the RTD era had the whole “too much love” problem. The Doctor fell in love with Rose, his companions fell in love with him, and Jack fell in love with anyone and anything. If anything, I think they’ve solved this problem.
