What did You Think of Series 10 Episode 4 Knock knock ?

Now that the fourth episode of series 10 has been aired what did you think? Was it everything you had hoped for or not what you expected.

Bill is moving in with some friends and they’ve found the perfect house – so what if it’s strangely cheap to rent, and the landlord is a little creepy?

The wind blows, the floorboards creak, and the Doctor thinks something is very wrong. What lurks in the strange tower at the heart of the building – and why can’t they find any way to enter it?

The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas. David Suchet guest stars at the Landlord.

Two words: David Suchet. Apart from that this episode had a very nice creepy tone.

Not a bad play on the haunted house concept. David Suchet was great as the landlord. Its a treat to have him on the show.

I loved this espiode very much, the doctor was excellent trying to keep the students safe from harm, the caretaker played by David Suchet was excellent for he is such a very talented actor in all of his roles that he plays. I think that it is Missy playing the piano in the vault.

Trust David Suchet to steal the show. The contrast between him and the actors “playing” the students was like night and day.
Putting aside the haunted house shtick, this has to be one of the better eps, at least until they ruined it at the end.

I couldn’t ignore the following plot conveniences.
Thunder and lightning that had nothing to do with anything, because…haunted house.
A human landlord that appears or disappears in an unexplained fashion, because…haunted house.
I don’t see how the restorations work. Surely the originals are dead and these are just exact copies. Even without that, it looked like a very cynical last-minute undo button to what was otherwise a good episode.

But, I wonder, if it didn’t have David, would it still have been a good episode?

A steady start to this series, o’k-to-good, episodes, and that’s fine, cos the last series was very up and down, for me personally – great one minute, terrible the next.
This episode I thought was very good, to the point, and the story just got on with itself without clutter.
The incidental music set a nice tone too – and the actors all supported the story as well.
    Good.
As to the vault, can’t say I am a big fan of these type of things (Pandorica – urgh), maybe The Master is in it – as the piano started playing again when The Doctor mention the house ate the kids (or however he put it) ,maybe he aint – but, happy to wait and find out.

Of course the next question is why is there someone/something in the vault, and how did it get there… and what is the significance of it …..

For pure idle speculation; Missy did mention the Doctor gave her a broach when her daughter was born in The Witches Familiar… Maybe Missy is the Master’s Daughter …. I dunno … Anyway, looking forward to a multiple Master story – if that is indeed the case !
In a nutshell, not a bad start to the series, good and solid, and enjoying it. Ta !!

Heres my ranking of the first four episodes out of 10:

    The Pilot: 6.5/10
    Smile: 8.5/10
    Thin Ice: 4.5/10
    Knock Knock: 7.5/10

I thought that The Pilot was good, but it really just focused on Bill’s character, and the story was weak. I like to find out more about the companions personality each episode, not just in one go.
I loved Smile. I thought that the emoji robots were really cute and funny and Peters reaction to them was sooo funny.
I really didnt like Thin Ice. It was exactly the same story as The Beast Below, if not even weaker.
I didnt really like the ending of knock knock, but the rest of the story was really gripping!

An alright story just a shame it wasn’t more freaky and I didn’t really find the whole daughter to mother thing all that believable. However, it was by no means a horrifically bad story.
As for who I thinks in the vault, I think it has to be Missy. Definitely not John Simm’s Master as I don’t see him playing the Piano but I could definitely see it as Missy.

I agree, it is most likely missy. I think she is in episode 6, and its been said we will find out who is in the vault in episode 6, so its most likely her

No way will it be missy

Underwhelming if anything, potential was there but yet again poor storyline let’s us down. Why is it that we continue to see the reset button pushed over and over again under Moffats show running? It has gone beyond a joke now!
As for the volt, it could well be Susan, the granddad references could be a clue, then again it may be a smoke screen. If it is The Master/Missy that would be underwhelming and I hope it isn’t.
This series has not got off to a great start so hopefully it will improve (Simms Master will see to that with any luck) having said that it is better than series 9, but it could be down to Clara not being in it.

I’m a bit disappointed, this should’ve been a really good creepy episode that gave us all nightmares but it just didn’t work for me. The end was awful, I hated the wooden girl thing, they should’ve left her out completely and just had the crazy landlord feeding people to the bugs. What happened to the bugs anyway, did they all die when the house collapse? All the students should’ve stayed dead, the house ate them!!! Special effects were cool and the house was great but let down by a silly storyline.

I was hoping the landlord was going to turn out to be another time lord. Especially when the Dr was looking at him funny and asking what year it was and who was prime minister. It was as though the Dr could see he was a time traveler. They missed a big opportunity there.

Thinking about it now, whoever is in the vault must be bound in some way. I mean they must have their arms free to tinkle those ivories but that’s about it because if they were free then the would then the doctors outlet be stupid enough to open the doors wide enough to put a piano in there.

All they would need to come club him over the head, Nyder style, and escape!

I think Knock Knock will be the only not great below par episode of series 10. Probably will be my least favourite if this year but still much better than the worst eps of series 9, (Before the Flood & sleep no more). If this is the worst of this series, fantastic because there was plenty of this episode that I liked, just the ending was a bit of a letdown!

Really liked this episode! I especially loved the guy being frozen in mid-consumption by the wall, with his blank, twitchy eyes- Beautifully creepy bit of imagery!
Definitely think it’s Missy in the vault. I feel like in the next episode, the Doctor will find no one in the vault as Missy has somehow already escaped, so then he’ll find her a couple of episodes later, as I don’t think they’ll reveal what’s in the vault next week, and I think we know missy will appear in an episode in a couple of weeks. But I don’t know! (just a silly little theory)!

Is it just me who really didn’t like that episode, the cast were weak and it was so over hyped it didn’t live up to expectations at all, I was at least expecting it to be creepy, I think for me that’s probably my least favourite so far

I really hope the master isn’t in the vault, simply because it seems too obvious! I would love to be really shocked when they reveal who’s inside! In DWMthey said it would shock us, hope they’re right!

Suchet was magical. Script was fun, cast was decent. I didn’t really get the last third but that’s probably because my dad came in loudly with some fish and chips. Wood woman looked excellent but was underused I thought and the alien woodlice I didn’t see the point of at all.

Overall, probably a 7/10 for me, but Suchet bangs it up to at least a 8 because he does.
    The Pilot: 9
    Smile: 8
    Thin Ice: 9
    Knock Knock: 8

Series 10 is off to a flyer – this and series 9 are the best I’ve seen this show in a long long time. Certainly best since the reboot in my opinion

Smile 7/10 Lot better than I excepted, but still not that great.

Thin Ice 6/10 Just watchable. Didn’t really enjoyable.

Knock Knock 8/10 Pretty good episode. Best one of the season so far.

    So far:
    The Pilot: 8/10
    Smile: 6/10
    Thin Ice: 6/10
    Knock Knock: 7/10

Since I’m that used to not being surprised in Doctor Who, I’m sticking with saying that the Master is in the vault due to the way the doctor talks to him like a brother or friend.

‘Knock Knock’ was a great story and gripping throughout. David Suchet stole the show as the Landlord. Certainly shaping up to be Capaldi’s best series. But what is in the vault? The fact it was playing the piano and the Doctor opened the vault makes it more tantalising.

Indeed. Though interestingly, the next episode is the 1st one with Nardole in the actual adventure – so who’s guarding the vault? There’s got to be a reason for his change in attitude there. Maybe it’s not a 3-part story coming up but almost a 4 part story…
