Ok episode, I liked the futuristic setting and the relationship between the Dr and Bill but I thought the robots that kill you if you’re not happy story was a bit silly.

This episode is another example of where the show could be so much better if they just showed a bit of gore and blood when people die. This was like kids tv and I’d like it to be more adult. I know it’s a family show but it’s got to be scary otherwise you might as well put it on for kids after school.

Make it scary, make it dark, make it good!

A decent episode. A very solid, decent episode. Not the kind of decent episode that’s poorly written, with some good moments, or cool visuals, which redeem it a little, like we’ve been seeing a lot these days in Doctor Who. To me this was a genuinely solid, and well written decent episode!

This one didn’t work for me.

Its a shame as Peter and Pearl are great together.

It looked so promising at the start I thought the episode might be quite dark but then the wheels fell off half way through and it never really recovered. bit like the entirety of series 9

Fields of wheat, as far as the eye can see, and what’s on the menu? Algae. Lol!

Oh, and the TARDIS is doing that “whizzing through space” thing again. When it implies some kind of take-off or landing sequence, for something that just de-materializes or materializes, why even bother? The vortex at least made some kind of sense. They could have easily had a votex with a fuzzy image of the planet Earth in the distance. Instead, they explain what the TARDIS is one week, only to throw that in the bin the following week.

I don’t follow you. What’s to say the Tardis hadn’t landed in space, so to speak, so you can see it flying through physical space as well

The classic series often had the TARDIS whizzing through space

So the writer who came up with In The Forest of the Night wrote Smile as well? Where the hell was such a good story like Smile then when the abysmal former episode was made? Why give the lead role some enjoyable stories when they are departing?

Very good episode. I actually felt it worked really well as a vehicle to show how the Doctor and Bill’s relationship developed. The second episode needed to be more about the two them. So it was good the guest characters were mostly sidelined, in a story that was both compelling and engrossing to watch. The ‘Emoji’ bots were effective and will be memorable foes. A much better story this time from Cottrell Boyce. 9/10.

Totally agree Tim, good idea leaving Nardole out of this one (except for a cameo) so that the chemestry between the Doc & Bill can develop.

I thought it was pretty underwhelming with a poor ending.I also not a fan of the vault arc, I’ve had enuff of these convoluted season long arcs. But still love the show!!!!

It’s not especially convoluted at the moment. There’s something in the vault. That’s about the extent it goes to.

I understand your frustration with plot arcs though. The hybrid one had so much potential but was just ruined in Hell Bent to be honest.

    • The Surgeon

      April 22nd, 2017 - 10:21pm

You should probably wait till the end of the series to say if it’s convoluted. It’s not particularly complex at the moment, and at least it’s more interesting than the Hybrid or Torchwood

    • The Outcast

      April 23rd, 2017 - 9:44am

The Hybrid was the worst arc in the entirety of Who history. Seriously, this show is called Doctor who, not Doctor we-know-everything-about-you. Somethings aren’t meant to be seen or told On-Screen. But the Moffat comes in with Clara and decides to have be the be-all and end-all of Doctor Who. NO!!! No one has the right to do that. Yeah, sure we’ve had Lungbarrow, be there is a massive debate on whether its canon or not and its an amazing and inventive story (apparently, I’ve not had the fortune to read it). Also Hell Bent’s reason for why the Doctor Who is really, really stupid and seriously under-whelming.

It was just ok for me, nothing special but I’m liking the continuous mentioning of the vault as it’s got me very intrigued! I actually prefer it when Nardole is there as he creates a nice dynamic between the characters and has fantastic comic timing! 🙂

Nardole makes serious moment’s so awkward and takes the drama out. Imagin the final with him. Its the most dramatic episode of the series and his cheesy cringe worthy humour ruins it. Jack harkness had a good humour and it was funny even in dramatic scenes with his sarcasam. Why moffat. Why didnt you bring him back. Thinks for a moment. Is he in the vault

Nardole hasn’t really been in a “serious moment” as of yet, so I would presume that if he is in one his character would adjust to fit that scene. Also his character appears to be developing into a more serious tone over the course of the series.

I really enjoyed it. Far from brilliant television, but much better than ‘ITFOTN’. I enjoyed Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie, and the story was pretty interesting and fun to watch play out.

The execution was good and the pacing was nice. Bill was brilliant, asking the right questions and her reactions to things is spot on.

I love it when an episode ends in the next! And that was a great way to do it. The Doctor having a little game with Bill only to wow her again!
