Doctor Who Adventures #303 gives information on what each function of this new Tardis console does. The third one reminds of the old Telepathic Circuits –

    CONTROL PANEL 1 – COMMUNICATIONS
This section is for outgoing communications and sending time coordinates and other control settings to different parts of the Tardis.

    CONTROL PANEL 2 – HELM
This controls the Tardis engines and allows the Doctor to steer the Tardis through time and space manually.

    CONTROL PANEL 3 – INTERFACE
This is a new intelligent panel that allows the Doctor to directly connect with the mind of the Tardis.

CONTROL PANEL 4 – INFORMATION PROCESSOR
This section is for processing and displaying incoming information, which can be relayed to the screens above the console.

CONTROL PANEL 5 – AUXILIARY POWER SYSTEMS
These are the auxiliary power controls – a back up for all systems.

    CONTROL PANEL 6 -MANUAL ADJUSTMENT
This clock-like panel is for manual adjustment to the time coordinates and acts as a fail safe time control.

I for one am certainly not a lover of this, I will eventually get used to it but I will never ever love it. It does not suit Matt at all.

If you look at the photo’s of this new Tardis Console Room in Doctor Who Magazine #456, you’ll notice that the parts connecting the 2 screens to the console itself are different from the first photo of the new loom console featuring Matt standing in front if it.

Some pictures feature the screens joined to the console by curved metal rods [or something like that], while the one at the bottom of page 18 in the magazine clearly shows that they are on some sort of hinges instead, and these hinges appear in the trailer when the Doctor says “She’s not possible”, so clearly a change was made after filming of ‘The Snowmen’.

Thinking about it, Matt Smith is a right lucky devil, as his been inside a 3 version of the Tardis Console Room since the new series began.

He appeared first in the 9th/10th Doctor version at the end of ‘The End of Time part 2’, and again briefly just before the opening credits in ‘The Eleventh Hour’, and for one last time in ‘The Doctors Wife’ when it became the secondary console room.

Then he got his very own Tardis console room at the end of ‘The Eleventh Hour’ right through to ‘The Angels take Manhatten’ and now this new one for the 50th Anniversary.

    Lucky devil indeed.

I love the new look completely, VERY classic series 😀

The new look console seems like 3 side of it are like 60’s / 70’s type features, the other 3 sides are 80’s-ish, a real nice blend of all 3 decades of classic Doctor Who, with the Time Rotor fixed to the ceiling being a nod to the 8th to 11th Doctors, so maybe this new console room is ment to be an amalgamation of each console room, or something like that in some way.

Did not expect that ceiling above the Tardis to spin, not quite sure if I’m keen on that, but it’s something never seen before in the Tardis I’ll admit.

Pity we did not get to see the new Time Rotor in action.

    Also . . . . where’s the Hat Stand got too ?.

Looks good but WHY ? NO explanation in the script, no explanation in the plot…so just WHY ? and HOW ? Sadly this (As was the rest of the episode) was another example of the grand Moff being completely unable to close out a single episode ! And now – contrary to what we have been promised, it looks like were off on another season 6 style over complicated mystery jaunt !

Reasons for the charge are rather obvious.

1)The previous design reminded the Doctor too much of Amy and Rory and the adventures they shared in that version of the Tardis console room. Changing it has helped eased the pain, and to help him move on from the days of traveling with them.

2)As it’s the 50th Anniversary next year, it would make sense to change the interior, like they did for 1973’s 10th Anniversary special ‘The Three Doctors’, and later with the 20th Anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ in 1983.

I think thats a good refrence to the angels take manhattan when the tardis is trying to get to new york and the paint gets battered and rubbed off. I liked the slick, new paint from befor but it does look really nice with the damage. The interior is better than I thought it would be too. Its homely, spacy and great for the new series!
