Goodness people it’s doctor who I feel like you guys are expecting shakespere.
It’s suppose to be silly, campy, wierd, confusing, fun, dumb, smart and tell stories about anything.
It is just being doctor who the way it always has been but you guys expect every episode to be exactly like the 4 episodes that are your favourite. Come on it rarely repeats itself it is glorious no matter who is writing it. It’s doctor who not like any other show in history so I dunno what your comparing it to as it is impossible to compare to anything even itself so stop being all snobby and enjoy the show. Sheersh people.

actually I rather like the trailer. Yes ! It looks like Movellans at .32 !!! Personally I’m happy not seeing many monsters in the trailer – too often these days everything is spoiled or revealed too soon and the reveal during the actual story is always more exciting. Let’s be positive about what’s in store and support the show…….

Been a massive fan all my life but found the special to be very average and slightly disappointing. I have ( probably still am) been pro Moffat but what is great about Dr Who seems to be being squeezed out. The doctor is often peripheral to the story – ok sometimes but not always. I just want the Dr and companion to materialise somewhere , become involved in an adventure and leave – just now and again. I hate the loss of basic logic within the sci fi context – breathing in space , swapping heads back and forth, time lord gender regenerations ( the worst). Capaldi is a great Doctor and I think could be one of the great Doctors so I look forward to 10. I really hope Peter stays and that Chibnall structures the show in a more classic way. Moffat has written some absolute classic stories but maybe time is up. We will see.

I have never really understood this Pro/Anti Moffat stuff, I just look at stories and judge them on their own merits. I mean Heaven sent trumps Love and Monsters, but Midnight crushes Hell bent, I judge them on whether or not I thought the story was good. That being said, I can’t wait for Chibnall to come in, cause the show has felt a bit stale as of late.

Steven Moffatt has written some brilliant stories in his past. series 5 onward has been a disappointment for me, I’ve watched them several times and each time I watch them they have got worse. bring back good storylines such as series 3s “Blink”. What happened?!
I’m a life long doctor who fan and I love the classic 60s episodes. and it is very difficult to say that I DO NOT want to watch SERIES 10 as it looks disappointing. Lets hope Chris Chibnall can clean up Moffatts Mess.

Charity Wakefield was a good great star but the Christmas Special, like Class, left me cold.

The Christmas special was ok, but not kind of left me flat. My expectations were higher. Honestly what infuriates me as a fan is BBC taking the position that since Moffat was busy with Sherlock, he didn’t have time for Dr. Who. Good grief! How many guest writers has this series had? Couldn’t they just pull in Chibnall in or countless others to write for the season and have Moffat remain in the periphery as writing advisor or something? It would have provided a transition to bringing on Chibnall full time then Moffat could bow out a season early.

Another pet peeve is the cycle of production and programming that BBC does. This is probably because I’m a US fan and grew up with the cycle of the US network TV seasons, but it went something like this: Network programs were filmed in the summer (Mid May to mid September) – generally while school was out). During that time you watched reruns while the cast and crew of your favorite shows busted their ever loving arses making the next seasons shows. Then, in mid/late September, the new season debuted. The new season’s shows ran every week until mid May. Other Sci-Fi series produced in the US have done it successfully. BBC has a global audience now. It’s time to step up the game! This inconsistency of taking a year off (unheard of in the US) and the series running only 9-12 episodes a season is driving me nuts and is no way to build and keep a fan base. As a loyal Who fan, I’m not abandoning ship, but I do grumble quite a bit.

It amazes me that after a year with no repeats or any promotional momentum to keep the
series ticking over in the publics minds let alone the fans.It was expected that the special would do well, you simply cant keep taking the series off the air every few years or when the olympics
or other sports events are on. They would’nt not show Eastenders for a year. It must drive the merchandise people nuts.
I agree that this year special was enjoyable from a fans point of view, but having spoken to non
total who fans they are getting board with it and the gaps between series with no repeats ar’nt helping, the BBC dont seem to be showing the series the respect it deserves.Moffat and and his talented team deserve better. Good luck with series ten, even class gets the graveyard slot why?.

Much better than last year for me, I’m not a River fan, I actually enjoyed this, ok the super hero bits, predictable I did hate the squeaky toy though. Mat Lucas much better than expecting. Peter wonderful as ever as 12. Looking forward to series 10. No companion bigger than the Doctor, I hope. Hope Missy out the way first, though.

Yeah I voted for better than I was expecting, that’s what I tend to do now, not expect too much from the show and that way I’m not disappointed.

I really loved the comedy, Peter Capaldi does it so well, I can’t believe they actually showed a superman comic and mentioned Spider-Man, it was funny when the Dr thought he was being clever drawing glasses on superman.

Seeing him eating sushi whilst eavesdropping with Lucy made me laugh and the ‘I brought snacks!’ line was great.

The brain things looked good, I liked the ripping the head in half thing but couldn’t help but think why not just keep the gun in your jacket pocket rather than having to rip your head open for a gun!

Nardole was funny at times and I’m glad we’re going to see more of him in series 10, I think Bill is going to be a brilliant companion and a real breath of fresh air.

Roll on next year, I think we’re in for an action packed series. Moff will want to go out with a bang I guarantee it!

Maybe he kept it in his head so it couldn’t be stolen by anyone or to hide the evidence if he had shot the Doctor.

Cheesy, boring, switched over to different channel, quite frankly Doctor Who has gone to dogs, someone had seen a trailer to next series and told me to start watch East enders

Is no one talking about the fact that these body stealing brains were in The Husbands Of River Song? I can’t see it mentioned anywhere.
I can see these being long lasting villains, maybe the big bad of series 10?

Yes they were and the very name Harmony of Shoals implies water and fish. Maybe theres a further connection to River Song or even the referenced Jim the Fish.

Was better than expected and now hopefully from about Easter we can get into series 10 and as well as Skaro’s finest being in it there are also reports about maybe the return of the Sea Devils as well. I hope that’s ACTUALLY true!

I really enjoyed this episode, I expect writing a Xmas is a thankless task as one is always under pressure to add the usual dumbing down “cheese” but as a one off episode I found it a lot more enjoyable than I expected. A nice pace throughout, well acted good humour, all good.

Honestly? It was better than I expected. I was expecting this to be a really stupid episode, and I was not looking forward to it one bit. And… it was okay. It wasn’t great, or anything, but it had its moments. The supporting characters were likable, and seeing The Ghost shuffle between his secret and superhero identities was amusing. I got a kick out of the Doctor’s reaction to superhero comics, and Nardole had a funny line every now and then. The villains were creepy, and their plan wasn’t half-bad, but they didn’t really leave that much of an impression. The supporting characters were likable, and even if I don’t think that the concept really belongs in Doctor Who, I guess they executed it well enough, and the episode succeeded in what it was setting out to do.

I have to disagree with your statement. Series 5 being the first under moffats direction was decent. You could tell it was within the same veins as the first four series though it did try things differently. The only problem was that the finale felt a little drab and i am not a big fan of moffat not using either the daleks or another well known alien or monster to finish the series off. For me doctor who started declining around series 6 onward, Moffats work with doctor who could have been better especially with his work on sherlock. I just hope that the new showruner does a better job of captivating audiences than moffat has. But regardless out of all the confusion he has bought us some gems. Flesh and stone, time of angels and nightmare in silver are some of my personal favourites.

Moffat is a good show runner, but I don’t think its for doctor who.

And I thought Hell Bent was bad enough! Can it get worse? Apparently it can. I have NO faith in Moffat turning this show around now, he has single handedly torn the shows once great history apart and the fandom along with it.
Season 9 was so bad he should have gone then, the future is bleak I hope the new showrunner can undo the mess Moffat has caused in the last two seasons of this once great show.

I agree with your opinion, Series 9 was bad. Some stories were dull (GWD,WWL) or just plain bad (MA/WF (Good davros scenes but everything else was rubbish), HB (Recon this please)).

The Surgeon, you might be happy to watch and applaud mediocre stories that we are getting at the moment! I expect better, some of us want this show back to it’s best.
Unlike some I remember only too well the the barren years of no Doctor Who at all on TV, if this poor writing continues we will be back to the dark days.
So it’s not about being miserable, its about want better.. much better.

I really thought it was quite unspectacular
Nardole provided cringy unfunny comedy, and it was all a bit flat… he wasn’t actually needed at all
Interesting story with harmony shoal, but as villains they weren’t that good, and they just got reused from last time
    Lucy was very good though
But sadly probably one of the weakest specials
