September 16th, 2015 - 9:08pmJust had a look at the cast of the 1st ep & Kelly Hunter is back as the Shadow Architect. What HAS the Doctor done to warrant the attention of the Shadow Proclamation as well as causing him to visit the Sisterhood of Karn?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 17th, 2015 - 4:32pmAccording to the synopsis about ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Colony Sarff is looking for the Doctor to deliver him a message, and will visit the Maldorvarium, the Sisterhood of Karn and the Shadow Proclamation.
No doubt the Shadow Architect is stil fuming over the Doctor leaving the Shadow Proclamation 7 years ago in the series 4 finale 😀 [ “I order you to STOPPPPPP !!” ].

September 16th, 2015 - 8:53pmSo saddened to hear that Jenna Coleman is leaving the show. Best companion in a VERY long time. In a change to what Clara would say: run you clever girl, and remember.
And really hope that the next companion is not a blonde woman!
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 17th, 2015 - 4:33pmWell she’s had a good 3 years, long enough for most Doctor Who regulars.
anon
September 17th, 2015 - 7:05pmYeah, thats true, but tom baker had a good three years and then had a couple more. I know he was the doctor, but to have a stong, resiliant character and then lose them is a bit of a downer.
Although, now we know that Clara IS leaving, there is no doubt going to be quite a few obsessive fans saying “bring back rose”. To that i say no. Bring in a new companion. Male or female, preferably dark haired (not blonde or a red head) and certainly not that annoying woman from Last Christmas, as she cannot act.

September 18th, 2015 - 2:35amYou do know this is just a baseless rumour. People will demand it is correct but simple fact of the matter is that the tabloids have been saying she’s leaving at literally every opportunity they get because by process of exhaustion it must happen eventually.

September 16th, 2015 - 5:45pmI wonder who,ll be first on this site to air their personal view of the episode come 8:30pm Saturday. There,ll be plenty to be vocal about then.

September 18th, 2015 - 12:34pmI love reading the comments before having my say. Besides all the first comments get pushed further down and most people tend to repeat what somebody has already commented on. I,m going all out and still think the maisie williams character if anybody is ‘The doctors daughter’ regenerated from Georgia moffat.

September 15th, 2015 - 5:26pmIt annoys me that the Girl who Died and the Woman who Lived are not the same story.
If they’re unrelated, why title them as if it’s a multi-episode story.
I like Sleep no More and Face the Raven.
100,000BC
September 15th, 2015 - 5:46pmThey are related, at least by the appearance of Maisie Williams’ character (could she be the titular ‘girl’ and ‘woman’?) – but are *technically* separate stories as they are written by different people and, one assumes from what we’ve seen, contain their own plots.
Anonymous
September 16th, 2015 - 4:38pmTechnically we know nothing Steven Moffat is deliberately holding back on whether this is a single parter or a two parter because that will affect how we view the story.

September 16th, 2015 - 5:20pmI,ve been thinking that certain words in each title might have some connection to this season if there is a story arc IE; Magician, Witch, Lake, Flood,Girl, woman, Heaven, Hell. Pure speculation I know, but its got me thinking again. The zygon story has similar themes to the film and tv series’ Alien Nation’, with aliens intergrating with humans and politically relevant with whats happening at the moment. Sad jennas leaving, but I think the character has run its course and I hope she gets a decent send off.

September 15th, 2015 - 1:26pmJust thought I’d do a little investigating try figure out the meaning behind the titles. 🙂
Episodes 1 and 2: The Magician’s Apprentice / The Witch’s Familiar (I think both are terms for Clara the magician being the doctor, the witch being missy. From the trailers missy spends a lot of time with clara in these episodes)
Episodes 3 and 4: Under The Lake / Before The Flood
Episode 5: The Girl Who Died
(Can only think of a transition of someone into womanhood unless it’s literal or both)
Episode 6: The Woman Who Lived
Episodes 7 and 8: The Zygon Invasion / The Zygon Inversion (couldn’t think of anything metaphorical, would say the zygons try to invade then the ‘inverse’ happens whatever that is I can only guess)
Episode 9: Sleep No More ( I like to think this leads in the next title, as in now its time to act for the Doctor)
Episode 10: Face The Raven (face the madness like edgar allen poes The Raven)
Episodes 11 and 12: Heaven Sent / Hell Bent (another term for the doctor and missy (maybe Daleks/davros) respectively)
Obviously I have no clue but was just trying to mess around with the titles.
ZygonTerror
September 15th, 2015 - 12:21pmThe first thing that came to mind when I read ‘Hell Bent’ was Missy telling the Doctor in ‘Death in Heaven’ about how the Doctor would take Clara to hell and back if she asked… “and she would”
Cousins2019
September 15th, 2015 - 10:34amReally looking forward to the Magicians Apprentice and the Witches familiar. Also ‘ Sleep No More ‘ seems intriguing. Can’t wait for September 19

September 15th, 2015 - 12:52amOverall these episode titles sound very intrigueing. Plus, I just read through an article where Steven Moffat had basically given hints on every upcoming episode and there were also synopsises for every one. Interestingly enough, the descriptions of Heaven Sent and Hell Bent are both much shorter than the other episode synopsises. However, the one for Hell Bent says it’s time for the Doctor’s confession, so it appears that his huge confession will be the main story arc of the series. Very excited!

September 17th, 2015 - 10:32pmOoh, can I have a link?

September 14th, 2015 - 10:59pmGreat feelin knowin all the titles, but still confused by something, we have Missy, Daleks, The Mire, a big dragon and that really freaky, messed up skeletal creature, but what on earth is the thing from the on set pics?
Big stone lookin head with red eyes?
The Cyber Squirrel
September 14th, 2015 - 11:07pmThat’s the mire.
anon
September 15th, 2015 - 9:04pmNo, its not the Mire, the Mire appear in Maisie Williams eps. Collector means the dark humanoid rocky headed thing with red diamond-looking eyes. The Mire are the yellowish robot things that march towards clara and Capaldi in the trailer.

September 14th, 2015 - 9:12pmSleep No More sounds interesting…

September 14th, 2015 - 8:20pmAn impressive set of titles. Hopefully the quality of the episodes will match.

September 14th, 2015 - 8:01pmInversion -a type of chromosomal aberration in which the position of a segment of the chromosome is changed in such a way that the linear order of the genes is reversed. Also called atmospheric inversion, temperature inversion. Meteorology.
Hmmmm……..
100,000BC
September 14th, 2015 - 9:39pmSadly I don’t think that’s quite the meaning of ‘inversion’ that was intended.
Inversion (n) – The action of inverting or the state of being inverted.
To invert (v) – put something upside down or in the opposite position or order.
(Oxford English Dictionary definition)

September 14th, 2015 - 6:02pmI think this is the best set of titles ever

September 14th, 2015 - 6:20pmTotally agree! They are brilliant 🙂
100,000BC
September 14th, 2015 - 7:32pmI agree! This really feels like it’s going to be good! It’s partly the way that the titles link the stories into pairs and partly the mysterious, enigmatic, exciting and grand-scale nature of the titles that make this so appealing, but it has certainly whetted my appetite much more than any other new series of titles… and I am confident that the brilliant Mr. Moffat and Mr. Capaldi can deliver even better than last year’s absolutely terrific run.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 14th, 2015 - 5:52pmHell Bent I hope sees the return of Gallifrey and Time Lords 🙂
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 14th, 2015 - 5:39pmWell, I hope ‘Hell Bent’ sees the return of the Time Lord’s and Gallifrey.
Fingers crossed 🙂

September 14th, 2015 - 8:22pmI hope so, too. The ‘finding Gallifrey’ arc should have been the focus of Series 8.
CJ
September 14th, 2015 - 9:23pmI too, hope he finds Gallifrey this series but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t because if you remember in Day of the Doctor, the 11th and 10th Doctors said it could take hundreds and thousands of years to find Gallifrey, so it could be the end of the 12th Doctors era or the 60th anniversary or even the 100th anniversary the Doctor finds Gallifrey…
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 15th, 2015 - 7:11amCJ – No you got that wrong mate, the War General said “the calculations alone would take hundreds of years”, not how long it would take to find Gallifrey.
Recap –
War General – “That’s impossible ! . . the calculations alone would take hundreds of years”.
11 – “Oh hundreds and hundreds”.
10 – “But don’t worry, I started a very long time ago”.
1 – “Calling the War council of Gallifrey, this is the Doctor”.
11 – “You might say, I’ve been doing this all my lives !”.

September 14th, 2015 - 6:45pmAs is Heaven Sent, but when I saw those titles my first thought was “hmm, religion again”
100,000BC
September 14th, 2015 - 7:23pmNot just religious – It is specifically ‘Heaven’ and ‘Hell’, which are used to imply that the story is on a large scale and that there will be death. Exactly the same as using ‘The Big Bang’ or ‘Doomsday’ as a finalé title.

September 14th, 2015 - 4:30pmIncredibly excited!
Not sure whether Sleep/Raven will be a rest from the two-part format, as it does not follow the same linked-title pattern as the other stories, although I expect that there will be either a link or a surprise cliffhanger which reveals how one story links into the next.
I’m most excited about Magician/Witch, Invasion/Inversion and Heaven/Hell although to be honest I’m excited about the whole thing!
A
September 14th, 2015 - 6:39pmI’ll admit this speculation is from the Simpsons, but (sleep) no more could be a reference to the oft repeated nothing more & nevermore from the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe.
That doesn’t mean they comprise a two parter but they may be linked as you said. Or it’s a red herring for any one who knows the poem (or has seen the Simpsons episode).
… I’ve just scanned the poem & a link kinda would make sense.
100,000BC
September 14th, 2015 - 7:18pm“Sleep no more” is also a quote from Macbeth (act 2 scene 2) where he begins to hallucinate after killing the king (“Methought I heard a voice cry, ‘sleep no more: Macbeth does murder sleep”)
As for Face the Raven… No idea. A quick google of the phrase turned out no obvious cultural references although the previous act of Macbeth does use a ‘raven’ as a metaphor for a messenger.
(you can tell I had an English lesson today)
A
September 16th, 2015 - 8:13pmPossible but the poem is about loss, which is something the Doctor dreads. I do hope the Doctor isn’t guilt ridden about murder.
