Australian Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular

AUSTRALIA TO STAGE WORLD PREMIERE OF DOCTOR WHO SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR

From The BBC…

Australian fans of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi TV show, will be given the opportunity to encounter the series’ most fearsome monsters in a brand new live show announced today by BBC Worldwide.

February 4th next year will see the Plenary Hall in Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre play host to Australia’s first and only performances of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, a musical celebration of the BBC television series performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The show will also mark the first time that a Doctor Who live event has been staged by BBC Worldwide outside the UK.

Inspired by the BBC Proms, the Symphonic Spectacular will see the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra joined by a host of live monsters such as Daleks, Cybermen, Judoon, Clockwork Robots, Scarecrows and the Doctor’s latest monstrous opponents, the Silence. Conducted by Ben Foster, the Orchestra will premiere Murray Gold’s thrilling music from the last two television series.

The live music performance will be accompanied by a big screen presentation of key moments from the recent series and specially edited sequences showcasing Matt Smith’s performance as the Eleventh Doctor. Special guests will also be joining the audience but fans will have to wait to find out who these will be.

Philip Murphy, Managing Director of BBC Worldwide Live Events said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing a live show to Australia’s legion of Doctor Who fans and especially to be premiering a new event with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.”

“Doctor Who has an appeal that crosses the generations,” said the MSO’s Managing Director Matthew VanBesien. “This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to hear a full symphony orchestra as part of a unique and exciting entertainment concept.”

I travelled more than 1000kms to enjoy the spectacular after viewing the prom specials highlighted in the box series … Money worth spending. Music wasvery emotional and inspiring, and even shed a tear when seeing old favorites like Elizabeth Sladen too. Proud to be part of Australian Dr Who history

The TV presentation of this symphony was absolutely marvelous and a wonderful addition to the list of modern symphonies. Is it available on DVD yet?

The Symphonic Spectacular is only in Melbourne, because it is being performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
