While I am saddend to hear of his death, I am glad that he will atleast be rememberd as the man who designed the Daleks.

Terry Nation had the rights, but it was really this man we owed their creation to.

And to think that for his efforts he was paid a one off sum by the BBC in 1963 of £250 or about £4000 and odds in today’s money instead of getting any share of royalties from merchandising. He probably should have been worth a million or three at least for the design.

      Absolutely, such a scandal.

Tom Baker brought it up in a DWM interview not so long ago and I was shocked, specially when I found out it was true.

But hey, the best thing is to be rememberd for it.

Thats really creepy, i was just thinking about how Cusick should have been more credited for his creations. This man made Doctor Who twice as good as it is, with the best pepperpots in the universe.
RIP, you shall be immoralized forever along with the supremacy of the Daleks.

Rest in peace Ray, you should have been given all that money that Terry Nation clearly did NOT deserve, he thought them up, but you my friend created them really, inspired by a pepper pot, but turned that pepper pot into a killing machine of pure hatred that we all know and love –

    AS YOUR DALEKS !!!! 😀

Just a side note: Ray wasn’t ‘inspired’ by a pepper pot he just used one to demonstrate how he wished for them to move.

Memories most had of when they were young.
His creations battle cries were gleefully sung.
By those young kids who had once hid behind the sofa when they first exterminated.
Now older and prouder of what you had created.
      Creatures of death.
      Green bubbles of hate.
      Creatures of genocide.
      Conditioned to kill and procreate.
      They were you brainchild.
      They were you kin.
      when you first pitched them.
That is when their legend had to begin.
      And even now on heaven.
I hope you will look and smile.
      As you creatures continue.
      To punish and defile.
As they hunt down that doctor.
      The oncoming storm.
Just seeing them come on to the screen was a feeling as warm.
To know that they are the icons that they are today.
And a hudred years from now what will they say?.
      That one man created them.
      One fantastic British man.
Of your work I shall be forever a fan.
Look out future here comes a Dalek.
And they were created by Ray Cusick

R.I.P., Ray Cusick. You designed a monster that was never meant to appear more than once, but became such a great idea it had to appear again and again.
