BBC Radio 3 Doctor Who Proms Schedule

BBC Radio 3 Doctor Who Proms schedule

From the BBC Press office…

Prom 10 – Doctor Who Prom
Saturday 24 July 7.30-9.45pm BBC RADIO 3

The Doctor is back. Two years ago, he appeared at the BBC Proms via video link. This year, he’s here in person. Thrills, spills, adventures, monsters and special guests are all guaranteed along the way in this Proms spectacular. Petroc Trelawny has the unenviable task of keeping everything in order for BBC Radio 3 – though, sadly, without the help of a sonic screwdriver.

Doctor Who (Matt Smith) and his assistant, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), join the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the London Philharmonic Choir for an action-packed evening. Monsters from the current run of the hugely successful BBC series threaten to disrupt proceedings. Only the Doctor – ably assisted by conductors Ben Foster and Grant Llewellyn – can save the day.

There are some classical favourites with a suitably celestial theme, including Mars from Holst’s Planets Suite and John Adams’s thrilling Short Ride In A Fast Machine.

Presenter/Petroc Trelawny, Producer/Tim Thorne

Twenty Minutes – Dance Of The Daleks

Saturday 24 July 8.20-8.40pm BBC RADIO 3

How do you make a sink-plunger seem scary? Matthew Sweet investigates the weird and wonderful sound world of Doctor Who’s incidental music.

Matthew Sweet spent the Saturday tea-times of his youth peering at the television, from behind the sofa, to watch Doctor Who. He time-travels through the programme’s 47-year history to investigate the weird and wonderful sound world of its incidental music. He talks with some of the composers who have contributed, in very different musical styles, to the enduring success of the programme over the decades.

  • Dr Who Xmas my idea 2010 part 5

    July 17th, 2010 - 12:49pm

A man was sitting in a chair, holding down a red button saying, ‘Room 12 Quake’ The room was shaking and the Doctor, Amy, Rory and the Woman were struggling to escape, ‘Open the door!’ ordered the Doctor, ‘It’s locked, jammed!’ complained Rory, just then the woman teleported away to escape. ‘She’s deserted us!’ Amy snatched away the the sonic screwdriver away from the Doctor, and drilled a wide hole, for a fully grown man to fit down, ‘Guys, come down this hole. Then we can escape!’ They all crawled down the hole, looking for an exit. ‘How are we going to get out of this?’ asked the Doctor, unsure of what was going on, ‘Dunno, but the hole is going quite far.’ said Amy, forgetting the fact that she was a humanoid mutant. ‘Er, Amy, Doctor, we’ve got some trouble back here!’ shouted Rory, ‘There’s something behind us!’ They crawled quicker by the second, speeding away from the alien, ‘It’s a Viperox Battle Drone, it weakened, so it can’t shoot, but we have to try and get out of here!’ explained the Doctor, just then Rory kicked out his legs into the Viperox’s face, leaving behind blood gushing out and a dent on the Viperox’s teeth and skin. ‘Keep moving!’ growled Amy, then a gate was shimmering, but locked, ‘I’ll use the sonic!’ said the Doctor, ‘Oh no! It’s a…deadlock seal!’ They were trapped. Suddenly the Viperox aimed a fired!

    July 14th, 2010 - 3:57pm

Rory, ran along a corridor, when he noticed the TARDIS, had been moved and strapped to a pick-up truck, ‘Who could’ve done this?’ He untied the straps and climbed into the TARDIS, ‘Better get this moving’ He pulled the lever and TARDIS, and vanished, leaving Amy (mutated), and the Doctor alone on the Orient Express. ‘Amy, Who did this to you?’ asked the Doctor, his face overturned by the shocking change of Amy, ‘Well…a…m-man, in a boiler suit, injected me with poison, and in less than half an hour I had turned into…this!’ Amy looked horrific, scared, but on her green, mutated face, she had a long deep cut, with the blood easy to see. ‘Aha! It was a “geo-thermal” injection meaning that you may have changed your appearance, but your only resistant to the cold…which means we need to find…HEAT!’ the Doctor studied Amy, the woman silent at the back of the room called over, ‘Oi! Can you tell me what the hell is going on here?’ asked the woman, angered slightly. ‘Shut Up, now, wait…’ before he could continue the room shook and TARDIS landed. ‘Rory!’ cheered the Doctor, ‘Woah, Amy?’ Rory noticed how Amy had changed, mutated completely. After the Doctor and Amy had explained what was going on, the walls were closing in. ‘The wall will smash into us, we have to get out!’ screamed the woman, the ceiling was falling, the room was being crushed completely but by who?

When the Doctor landed, he snuck under a table, because a man was coming his way. The man was old, wrinkly and was wearing a black, boiler’s suit, he was wheeling a trolley towards some steps. After the man had went down the steps, with his trolley, he pressed his fingers onto a keypad, and a steel door opened. ‘My work is almost completed.’ Amy was still sitting on the chair, when the old man, came in, not showing any signs of anger, in fact he didn’t even notice her. ‘Whose he?’ whispered Amy to herself, her red hair almost glued to the chair, (well really her body), she pulled herself off the chair, and silently walked towards the man. The Doctor crawled along the floor, and saw a woman tied up to a chair, her mouth, tapped. He untied, the woman, freeing her. ‘Oh thank you, are you the Doctor?’ she asked. The doctor nodded, ‘Yes, why?’ The woman was very rich, her hair pure black, her clothes only pop stars could afford. ‘I was the one was rang you.’ the Doctor looked shocked, ‘But how were you tied up, imprisoned?’ he asked, ‘No idea, just thrown into here, tied up, and locked in here…for…15 YEARS! Thank goodness they gave me, SOME, food, but here, the taste of food is…weird…different.’ ‘This is the 88th century, bananas, apples, bread, water, and other foods from the 21st century are all, from Earth, and his ship, didn’t bring enough, so they made some ‘homemade’ food, by killing some of the passengers.’ said the Doctor, but before the woman could answer, a mutated human, came in saying, ‘Doctor?’ ‘Amy? How did you?…’ he was interrupted by Amy, ‘They took me and transformed me, physically.’

‘We need to find out whose in charge here!’ sharply said Amy, walking towards a large red sign, reading out: PILOT’S QUARTERS, NO ENTERY. Rory didn’t even argue and shyly followed Amy away, ‘S-s-so-o-o w-what’s g-g-going on, here?’ his hair was now blown to one side, making it shaggy and neat. ‘ “No Entry”? Pah, well I’m going in, no questions, ask!’ Amy stomped into the Pilot’s Quarters, and slumped herself onto a large shiny, chair. ‘Surprised, they didn’t lock this room, and with nobody in here too, what were they thinkin?’ Amy had her legs crossed, she picked up a plastic, ‘McDonald’s’ cup, she lifted off the lid, her eyebrows rising, the liquid in the cup was green, and was at a boiling temperature. ‘Someone can’t of left here that long ago.’ Meanwhile Rory whistling outside, guarding the door, to the Pilot’s Quarters. ‘Come on Amy, hurry up!’ Just then the Doctor came bounding past, and running into a wall, but as the Doctor recovered the wall began to turn, ‘A wall, a passage into a room, clever!’ explained the Doctor, as he fell through the opened wall.

I’ve this think this years dr who xmas episode should start like this:

‘We will be arriving at the Orient Express, soon.’ said the Doctor looking over the TARDIS console. ‘What is going on? Who rung you?’ asked Amy, sitting underneath the glass console floor. ‘A royal highness called me, from the future, and somebody has ended up on the the Orient Express, and we need to rescue her.’ answered the Doctor. ‘What a way to start my marriage!’ laughed Rory, holding hands with Amy. Amy looked worried, her wedding dress covering much of the seat, her expression confused Rory. ‘What’s wrong, Amy?’ he asked. ‘Don’t know’ shivered Amy. Just then the TARDIS, landed on the Orient Express, ‘We’ve landed! Geronimo.’ said the Doctor jumping up in the air, his body, pumping, not blood, but loads of joy. Outside a man, with spiked blonde hair scampered along the rough floor, on the Orient Express. Then a tidy, handsome man, in a rich coloured suit, wandered over, ‘Do you have it?’ The blonde-haired man nodded, in his hand, he held a dark grey box, the handsome man cheered snatching the box away. ‘Go back to the your duties, this box will help the flight of the Orient Express, fly into oblivion!’ chortled the man, as the spiky-haired man sprinted off. The Doctor, Amy, and Rory stepped out of the TARDIS, the Doctor looking around, mischievously, his teeth gritting. ‘Have we landed in the right place?’ asked Amy, watching daily life on the Orient Express. ‘Ah, well yes…basically…yes!’ cheered the Doctor, ‘You’re acting strangely.’ whispered Rory, ‘Your right, the Doctor has been acting weird ever since the TARDIS had landed.’ said Amy. The Doctor meanwhile was bouncing around, like he’d been drugged or something.
