Caroline John (liz Shaw) 1940 – 2012

From BBC Twitter

It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Caroline John who played companion Liz Shaw in 1970. She passed away on the 5th June.

Caroline John Played Liz Shaw opposite the 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee until “Inferno”. She was introduced to The Doctor in the story “Spearhead from Space” playing a scientist.

Like many other past Doctor Who Companions she continued playing her roll in several Big Finish productions and attended numerous conventions.

She also appeared in The Five Doctors and Dimensions in Time plus several independent BBV stories. Caroline John was married to Geoffrey Beevers who played the Master in The Keeper of Traken.

Oh my, I didn’t know about this! I only started liking her companion, she’s my second favourite overall! RIP Caroline John. 😥

PS: I posted this so late because I only found out when I was looking at episodes of Doctor Who. 🙁

Well she was great actor. When her time in DR,Who the TARDIS was out of Order. After she left never was to be mentioned again. Jon Pertwee recalled Katy Maning his favourite companion.

I was really really sad when I heard that Caroline John had passed away. She was brilliant as Liz Shaw. I remember her wonderful first scene with the Brigadier where she is huffy and sarcastic with him for being summoned to UNIT. She is equally off with Jon Pertwee’s Doctor when they first meet, but over the next few stories she softens towards him and becomes a loyal friend. Also when she is attacked in the barn by the Sillurian, and you can see the Doctor is genuinely worried and concerned for her. Such great scenes with her and Jon. I also loved her in Inferno playing her alto ego in the parallel universe. Sad sad news, another great actress from the Doctor Who universe has been lost. I guess like me, every fan is keenly awaiting the release of Ambassadors of Death on DVD so that they have the set of all her stories on DVD. My thoughts go out to her family.

She was brillant on Doctor Who, she wasn’t the companion who was just the Doctors assistant. I heard she was the person who kept the Doctor who going, as it was going to be cancelled back in the 60s. She was one of the best people on the show. RIP

This is awful to read. Caroline was a great companion even if she wasn’t around long. it is sad that she has passed away.

the world of Doctor Who has lost many great cast memebers over the years.

    Rest in Peace Caroline
