Caroline John 1940 – 2012 Video Tribute

Caroline John (liz Shaw) 1940 – 2012

From BBC Twitter

It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Caroline John who played companion Liz Shaw in 1970. She passed away on the 5th June.

Caroline John Played Liz Shaw opposite the 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee until “Inferno”. She was introduced to The Doctor in the story “Spearhead from Space” playing a scientist.

Like many other past Doctor Who Companions she continued playing her roll in several Big Finish productions and attended numerous conventions.

She also appeared in The Five Doctors and Dimensions in Time plus several independent BBV stories. Caroline John was married to Geoffrey Beevers who played the Master in The Keeper of Traken.

I think it’s very sad we have lost another Who companion.
I’m very shocked that she’s gone just like I was with Liz and Nick

I think it shows how great she was that Liz has a large number of fans and got many chances to use her great voice to full effect in the Big Finish Companion Chronicle range. Caroline was an amazing woman and the many stories prove that. My thoughts are with her family. Rest in peace.

Rest in piece Caroline πŸ™ xx

Along with Jon and Nick, she helped Doctor Who begin it’s time in the 1970’s, especially when it finally went into full colour, something to be proud off I’m sure.

This really took me by surprise reading it on the Doctor Who website, I expected it to be another happy birthday thing. Hopefully, they won’t kill her off in the TV series like they did the Brigadier. Such a shame, classic Doctor Who is losing so many great names from the long list of companions. I loved her companion chronicles and her short era on TV. I hope she gets a good tribute in DWM like Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney. It really is amazing how such a short-lived companion can have such a resonance, she will be greatly missed.
RIP Caroline John, long live Liz Shaw.

Duckter Who it’s not that I forgot them, but the others have all died so lately! It’s such a shame, but now seems a bad time for classic Who

RIP caroline, you will always be remembered.

I will miss her so much. She will always live in the pantheon of doctor who companions. Now there is only Katy Manning to remind us of the UNIT golden years. πŸ˜₯ πŸ™

Indeed, so sad that they are all gone…
but they will never truly be gone, the memories, the faces…
And I think Katy will be sticking around for a while. Maybe the writers will start to see how important it is to not only create, but return to old places.
      RIP Caroline, Elizibeth and nicolas

Very sad to hear of the news of the passing of Caroline John. It will be strange hearing her on the DVD commentary on Ambassadors later in the year with Nick Courtney. I shed a little tear on the Planet of Spiders DVD hearing Liz, Nick and Barry Letts – the same will certainly happen again. RIP Caroline and thank-you

I cant belive it ! I was privillaged to meet her at a convention a couple years back and she was amazing ! As I got to the front of the que the stewards wanted to move things along faster but she said VERY firmly “NO ! These people have come to see me and I WILL chat with them !” Go caroline ! She was a lovely lady who always spoke VERY fondly of her time on Dr Who. RIP Caroline John, gone and missed but NEVER forgotten !
