Richard E Grant Cast In Christmas Special
Casting news – Richard E Grant In Christmas Special
Filming of 2012’s Doctor Who Christmas episode starts this week with two big film and television stars joining the show.
Richard E Grant, actor, author and director, has starred in over 80 film and television hits including Withnail And I, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jack & Sarah, Gosford Park and The Iron Lady.
He is no stranger to Doctor Who – Richard E Grant has played “The Doctor” twice, once in the Curse of Fatal Death and as the Ninth Doctor in animated webcast Scream of the Shalka.
On joining the show, Richard says: “I played Doctor Who in the digital animated Scream Of The Shalka and I’m honoured to be in the Christmas Special.”
Tom Ward, who has starred in BBC One’s in Silent Witness as Harry Cunningham since 2002 also joins the Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and his new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.
It is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Saul Metzstein. It will be shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales’ studios.
Doctor Who is coming soon to BBC One and the Christmas Special will be followed by a further eight episodes next year.

August 6th, 2012 - 8:43amLoved him in Scream of the Shalka, the Doctor that never was, would be nice to have an in-joke to that in the special, just for the fans… 🙂
Dr who
August 6th, 2012 - 7:41amI hope he’s playing the master or another evil time lord maybe or may not
Jason doctorwhoone
August 6th, 2012 - 8:23amThe Master IS DEAD, god how many times I’m I gonna keep saying that on this website ? !!!!.
The Master knows why he became evil all cos of Rassilon, he made the Master a victim of the madness in his mind, turning an innocent child into a power hungry murdering maniac, but once the Master realized what had happened to him all those years ago, he turned good in the end, saving the life of his old friend, the Earth, and the rest of the universe from Rassilon and the evil of the Time Lord as they became during the Time War, and dying with his people.
The Master is a HERO now, and he DIED a HERO, just let him rest in piece.
the master
August 6th, 2012 - 8:32amnope the master is the doctor’s arch enemy and still is that was r t d era.steven moffat may want to bring him back as a villianand i want the master back as a villian.he was a villian for a long time.there not going to make him good all of a sudden.just because he was brainwashed by rassilon does not mean he still can’t be a villian and i like the master very much and the master becoming a hero would ruin the show and he has to come back for the 50th anniversary as a villian.because he is the best villian.if he does i hope he will look like roger delgado a proper doctor who villian look.not a mad prime minster who eats people.i hope he comes back
the master
August 6th, 2012 - 8:40amand that invention was made by russel t davies.it was not in the old series at all.so maybe there are 2 masters and how do we know it was the real rassilon.it could have been another one and in the old series rassilon did not brainwash the master.it’s only since the time war it’s happened.plus time was rewritten in the big bang.i may not be correct about it.but how do we know it was rassilon.it most likely is.but what if that rassilon was the master and he created a fake master in derek jacobi, john simm and the master was on gallifrey and pretended to be rassilon and brainwashed the doctor to believing he was rassilon.when in fact he was the master and he created a clone with regenration pretending to be the master when in fact it is someone else.it’s just a guesss.but surely the best doctor who villian can’t all of a sudden become a hero.it would ruin everything that the old writers did and it is not right to do that.long live the master as he returns and you will all obey him
the master
August 6th, 2012 - 8:56ami was meant to say best friend and archenemy
Tardis’nt
August 6th, 2012 - 9:35amhe could come back as a previous incarnation as the first master we saw was his 13th self. plus i don not think that john sinmm’s master is dead, not yet…

August 7th, 2012 - 4:38pmButg the Master didn’t return to the last great Time War. How could he? He wasn’t a part of it in the first place. It is just yet another RTD plot mess up.
The Master is still out there somewhere. Where he is and what he’ll be doing and who’s side he’s on remains to be seen though.
John Smith
August 20th, 2012 - 7:20amThe Master can’t just be killed off! He’s like Moriarty and the Doctor is Sherlock Holmes! Without each other there’s just no fun at all. The Master has been the essential Doctor Who villian since his first appearance in the 70’s and not having in the 50th Anniversary would be a shock to fans. Let alone not having Matt Smith’s Doctor come face to face with the Master! It’s like a tradition that all the Doctor’s have to go through. Besides the first two doctors and the ninth.

August 5th, 2012 - 6:16pmJohn Barrowman I think as Capatin Jack is meant to be coming back at some point
Jason doctorwhoone
August 5th, 2012 - 6:29pmWould be nice to have him back on the show. I wounder what he’d think of Matt Smith’s Doctor, since Jack’s worked alongside his previous 2 incarnations from the new series already.
KGF
August 5th, 2012 - 6:32pmSteven Moffat has already said that if a good enough story that needs to involve Jack crops up, then he will include him. He’s not just going to include him for fan-sake.
Jonathan
August 5th, 2012 - 9:42pmWell I’d much rather see River or Donna or a classic companion back rather than Jack to be honest

August 5th, 2012 - 5:08pmBenedict Cumberbatch, maybe?
Jason doctorwhoone
August 5th, 2012 - 6:26pmOh god no not him, I can’t stand that guy. Sorry, but thats how I feel about him. I’m often sick of it when some people want him to be in Doctor Who just cos of his bleeden modern Sherlock. Sadly for Star Trek fan’s his gonna be in the next Star Trek film of J.J. Abrams . . . . god help them.
doctor who 19
August 5th, 2012 - 9:44pmhe is a brilliant actour
Hall
August 6th, 2012 - 6:20am@Jason doctorwhoone Star Trek is lucky to have him, and he won’t be in Doctor Who, everyone knows by now that it’s very unlikely for him to do a regular or a supporting role in a TV show now, and yes he’s a brilliant actor. Feel very sorry for you (actually I don’t. :p), because he’s going to be in lots of great things from now on.
Jason doctorwhoone
August 6th, 2012 - 8:29amHall – Don’t care, can’t stand him 😛

August 5th, 2012 - 5:07pmIt’s David Warner, by the way.

August 5th, 2012 - 4:55pmPaul McGann
Jason doctorwhoone
August 5th, 2012 - 6:22pmIf it is Paul, then that would be fantastic, they could film the unseen regeneration between his 8th Doctor into Christopher Eccleston’s 9th incarnation, but knowing Chris, he never wants to come back so they might as well just show the regeneration of the 8th Doctor begining but not show the change of the faces between the 8th and 9th, unless they can fake it by merging the image of the 9th Doctor regenerating into David Tenannts 10th Doctor with the 9th Doctors head tilted upwards during regeneration to make it look as if Paul is regenerating into Chris.

Jason doctorwhoone
August 5th, 2012 - 6:24pmNo, his dead, and he got his revenge on Rassilon who made the Master what he became, so let him rest in peace.
KGF
August 5th, 2012 - 6:34pmIn reply to @Jason doctorwhoone – anything’s possible. The Master’s dead, but he could return.
Anyway, I’d love to see Kylie Minogue back – or Christopher Lee make his Doctor Who début.
booboo
August 5th, 2012 - 6:34pmChristopher Lee, oh yes
Anonymous
August 5th, 2012 - 7:04pmThe Master isn’t dead. People just presume he is. He couldn’t have been taken back to the Time War as he wasn’t there in the first place.
He’s out there somewhere, it’s only a matter of time (although how much time remains to be seen).
Jason doctorwhoone
August 6th, 2012 - 8:36amNO he is dead, END OF.
the master
August 6th, 2012 - 8:45amnot everything is true plus they can bring him back before the time war happened and why would you kill the best villian on the show and make him a hero and not bringing him back would ruin everything, why would you make the main villian in the show a hero,he may have been angry at the time because he was mad,but he may return and be the proper roger delgado look alike master, which would be awesome .the master is never dead.he will return he will return he will return,he will return
the master
August 6th, 2012 - 9:11amthey could also turn it around,it could be that the master brainwashed rassilon in the time war and rassilon was then bad and created drums for the master,so then they could come back and when they did the master would trick the doctor pretending rassilon did it,when his true plan was to return to gallifrey and become president taking over rassilon or killing him someway.some may agree, some may disagree
