January 29th, 2012 - 6:05pmAnyone else think the Christmas special wasnβt very Dr Who-ish ?
I found it didnβt make any sense, though I understand Steven Moffatβs approach, trying to make sure Doctor Who is still the cleverest, biggest Sci-Fi fantasy show on TV , as he says, itβs got to be. π
So they forced alot of the drama and happy-ending/plot developments that felt wierd were all forced to amke the episode better from a dramatic point of view, although it was much less believable becuase of this. π―
This is al lwhat I read in DWM.

January 8th, 2012 - 11:10amfilming starts February, Amy and Rory leave, they seem to be in a least a couple of episodes, there are supposedly 2 returning classic monsters, that’s about all i know.
The Wooden Prince (Previously Admiral Icktheus)
January 8th, 2012 - 4:22pmSteven Moffat also said in DWM 442 that there will be no two parters in series 7 unless there really needs to be.
Fox Mulder
January 6th, 2012 - 10:11amThe doctor should meet Kennedy in the 7th season to help stop aliens working with Russians from causing a nuclear war in 1962.
McGann is the Doctor.
January 9th, 2012 - 9:06amAnd you know that should happen, do you ?
Fox Mulder
January 11th, 2012 - 9:30amWell why shouldn’t it. dr who will be fifty and Kennedy assisination will be fifty so there you go. Kennedy and the doctor need to bee on screen fighting aliens in the white house.
doctor daddy cool 67
January 11th, 2012 - 6:04pmA JFK story with The Doctor is a must…please make it so !
McGann is the Doctor.
January 29th, 2012 - 6:09pmFunny you should all say that, because Head-producer Moffat and actor Matt Smith had a great interview on BBC I-player (or wahtever) and were told by the guy on the radio an idea about the JFK assassination for the 50th anniv
And they were like: “So, the Doctor killed JFK ?” π― !!
We’ll see, but it may be too sensitive a matter, having John F Kennedy’s assassination dealt with in a Science-fantasy series. β
Fox Mulder
January 6th, 2012 - 10:08amMoffat needs to go
booboo the third
January 7th, 2012 - 11:27amI agree weneed russle back
Silence Will Still Fall
January 7th, 2012 - 8:02pmyes moffat makes mistakes but i think he has done exceptionally well overall especially with series 6 which is the best series yet in my eyes. Also i thought this was a very well written episode, dont understand all the negativity surounding it.
Fox Mulder
January 11th, 2012 - 9:25amIt was terrible. I give it 1/10 it gets a one because the doctor was in it.
McGann is the Doctor.
January 29th, 2012 - 6:12pmIf you didn’t like the special, fair enough, it was massively flawed.
But don’t rip on Steven Moffat, he’s a great vision for this series, and has brought Dr Who alot closer to the true form (apart from the rubbish new Daleks, that was the only bad decision).
Since the David Tennant years, the Series really does feel like a continuation to the Classic era than just a mad reboot that does it’s own thing and gives no respect to the shows history. Thanks to the Moff. Give him a chance π
Fox Mulder
January 5th, 2012 - 8:41amWow 10 million it hasn’t had rating this good since the end of time
McGann is the Doctor.
January 29th, 2012 - 6:14pmYou mean since a Christams Charol.
And hte ratings for Series 6 were below 10 million but they weren’t as bad as you may think, the initial live ratings (at about 6 million) donot count those who record the episode in the week, or watch the repeat in that week, or even Iplayer. When they do count all of that, the rating for (say, Impossible astronaught) went from a 6.9 to a healthy 8.6 ! :lawl:

McGann is the Doctor.
January 29th, 2012 - 6:15pmI record it on BBC HD ! And that doesn’t even count in the final ratings, jsut shows ratings are often misleading ! π

January 2nd, 2012 - 5:46pmI’d give this one 7/10. I love Matt Smith, but not when he goes a bit childish. I’m looking forward to his third series, shame about the wait though.

tardisfan101 (dwfan101) (torchwoodfan101)
December 30th, 2011 - 3:01pmI would have to say that even though it copies Narnia a bit, this is probably the best christmas special yet.
dw#1fan2012
January 6th, 2012 - 10:17pmchristmas carol copied off scrooge
Luke
December 30th, 2011 - 9:18amI liked the episode! Shame about the wait for series 7
koolh
December 29th, 2011 - 5:18pmi would probably rate this special 7/10
I thought that the opening 20 minutes were excellent( the pre-titles sequence, Madge helping the doctor, Reg’s plane going down the doctor showing Madge and the kids round the house etc, I also thought that the closing 7 mins, from reg returning from the dead until the doctors little tear were excellent, very very emotional, but the story with the forest and the trees and the wooden king and queen really didnt grab me and i felt it was trying too hard and didnt hang together very well, too many different elements clashing, i still think A CHRISTMAS CAROL is by far the best christmas special π
Admiral Icktheus
December 29th, 2011 - 7:28pmAgreed! π
Ray1
December 29th, 2011 - 8:34pmIs it me or are the Moffat stories just trying too hard? It’s a shame because I truly believe Matt Smith is the best Doctor…ever, and I’ve been a fan for over 40 years. Why can’t we get some old fashioned stories that actually make sense, without the silliness and huge story arcs.
Whofan#1
December 29th, 2011 - 8:04amThis years special was not my cup of tea I perfur a christmas carol and the 10th doctor ones those were better than this years
doctorwhofan27

January 3rd, 2012 - 11:18amYeah, the 10th Docotr’s were so much better-I like Moffat and Smith but at Christmas I miss RTD…

January 3rd, 2012 - 12:41pmYeh, The End of Time was amazing.
The Wooden Prince (Where was he in the episode?)
January 3rd, 2012 - 8:42pmMoffat and Smith- the ultimate team at Christmas!
StompingFreak
December 27th, 2011 - 6:14pmIt was ok. Funny, but nothing amazing.
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 9:00pmAgreed. I’m not testing you or anything, but what do you think would make an ideal christmas special ? Maybe, we should have …… ? π Yes ? We should have……..
the TARDIS
January 3rd, 2012 - 9:58amDoctor Who does ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ with the Doctor as Clarence.
Doctor Who Massive Fan1234896 :)
December 27th, 2011 - 3:54pmHi, The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe was a good special but I think the Wooden King and Wooden Queen didn’t appear to be very threatening and they were underused in the fact that they put the relay on everyone and different times and that’s it. After that they just stand there and do NOTHING! But the overnight ratings are good and the final ratings will be around 10 million so pretty good. π
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:55pmThe Monsters aren’t really that important. And anyway, I thought their part in the story was good enough, the Wooden King was really scary !
And I have no idea how they did the monsters, got the mto move and look so real. It was scary when the King is awakend and goes up the staircase, towards our main characters.
But they turn out to be benevolent, not a threat, you see ? π
King Gerbil
January 3rd, 2012 - 11:20amAs always….for once it would be nice to have the enemy as “the enemy” and not the Doctor’s new best friend.
dw2005
December 26th, 2011 - 11:28pmI would give the christmas special a 4/10 as it was written badly, but did have three good things that I liked in it. They are: The comedy, the ending and the reference to androzani back from 1984 with the fifth doctor.
Max
December 27th, 2011 - 11:13amI agree and the truth is it wasnt really written by the BBC most was written by Lewis Carrol. It was a copy of Narnia
Admiral Icktheus
December 27th, 2011 - 6:04pmhave to agree with you there! Moffats weakest script yet! (and I like Moffat! Don’t do this again Moffat) But I would give it a 6 instead just because Matt Smith was on fire with the material he was given.
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:58pmThat was one of the redeeming factors of the special. The Doctor was great, being more sacrastic and whitty than ever ! (being a Sixth Doctor fanatic, I love it)
And it was well-made (apart from the CGI longshots of the spaceship, and the Tardis, β ). The Monster-character looked stunningly real, as did the forests, the only real down-side to this special, was the guest actors. π
BAILEY ROBERTS FAN
December 28th, 2011 - 10:05pmamy was in it so whats the big deal about it
doctorwhofan27
December 29th, 2011 - 1:14pmI liked it, and have any of you seen narnia? it wasn’t like this very much, other than in a box is a snowy forest and the youngest finds it first. And the title.
Admiral Icktheus
December 30th, 2011 - 12:02amThe only time I’ve ever properly wanted to hate Moffat forever is when he wrote the Rose reference in The Wedding Of River Song right before the Doctor received the phonecall concerning the Brigadier. What I saw online disgusted me!
I Love Cybermen
December 26th, 2011 - 1:49pmVery good ratings! I’m pleased- both with the excellent special but also such a vast figure of overnight viewers!
Harold Saxon
December 26th, 2011 - 12:24pmloved it,final figures will be more like 10 or 11 million in the end so not bad,it was an enjoyable special, matt smith and claire skinner were very good.
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:59pmI disagree with the latter. Matt Smith was brilliant, he was going at a hundred thousand miles an hour, Claire Skinner, was almost unwatchable. β
Admiral Icktheus
December 29th, 2011 - 2:14pmClaire could have been better. She’s fine in Outnumbered but maybe this wasn’t for her. I have a feeling Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Paul Bazely had more scenes but were cut due to timing.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
December 26th, 2011 - 11:02ami was at my cousins, yesterday, so i didn’t get a chance to watch it, but it was on, but with not much sound, i thought that cyril went through the box quite quickly, so it moved on quite well. i watched eastenders! i cant believe yusef is gonna set fire to the b and b!!
