Christmas Special Trailer – The Snowmen

Christmas Special Trailer – The Snowmen

A look at the trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas Special Trail, introduced by Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman.

‘The Snowmen’ has been revealed as the title for this year’s movie-scale Doctor Who Christmas special, and the episode that will introduce the new companion, a new look for the Doctor and a new monster that will have families shivering behind their sofas.

Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor, and introducing Jenna-Louise Coleman as new companion Clara, The Snowmen will follow their adventures as they embark on a mission to save Christmas from the villainous Doctor Simeon (Richard E Grant) and his army of icy snowmen.

Fans also got a sneak peak at a new costume for the Doctor, revealed in an exclusive trailer on Children in Need, while a special prequel showed the impact of the loss of the Ponds, with old friends Vastra, Strax and Jenny trying to persuade the Doctor not to give up on adventures.

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said: “The Doctor at Christmas is one of my favourite things – but this year it’s different. He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge. He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight? Enter Jenna-Louise Coleman…”

Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, commented: “For this year’s Christmas special we have the wonderfully villainous Richard E Grant as Doctor Simeon – as well as lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged warriors from the future, who all return to convince the Doctor that he should board the TARDIS again and save the world. Add to that Jenna-Louise Coleman, and so begins the Christmas Special 2012. I hope everyone enjoys it!”

The BBC Cymru Wales produced drama will return to BBC One in December, with a further eight epic episodes in spring next year.

A minute into the video where Richard E. Grant is saying “I said i was going to feed you. I didn’t say who to.”, it looks like a bit like some yeti that are eating the man. You can see some claws and they look hairy. It’d be so cool if it is the yeti.

Yes this dosen’t look too schmaltzy for a change.

If people just wanted schmaltz for Christmas TV then why did mainstream channels like ITV used to put on Bond films for Chrismas day then?

Clara and Oswin may not be related or connected, she may have been just paying a cameo role to see how she performs like Freema Agyman did when she played her cousin Adeola in Army of ghosts. Or Karen Gillan when she played one of the Sooth Sayers in the fires of Pompeii

They already knew she was the new companion, so they wouldn’t make her appear in AOTD! And on children in need, they said they were completely different characters, like they are joking and there is a link!

I think Clara is splintered in time like Scaroth. So Oswin is Clara but in a different timeline.

I disagree. Ok, TDTWATW wasn’t the best, but I enjoyed it. A Christmas Carol is probably the best special ever, I loved the Christmassy theme into it! 😀

I’m celebrating Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary every day in 2013 wither it’s reading Doctor Who novels, reading Doctor Who Magazine, watching DVD’s etc.

I’m glad it’s near to Christmas, I’m glad that there’s a brilliant new companion and I’m glad it’s only one! Having a married couple in the Tardis really destroyed the sort of one to one companion relationship with the Doctor. Amy Pond knew too much (and of course A VERY complicated time line) and it isn’t meant to be like that in in Doctor Who; the companion is the one who asks all the questions and screams a lot! And C’mon, ‘5’ episodes this year… I really don’t like that layout! For me Doctor Who should always be on a Saturday night, always at 7pm and always running through corridors and getting attacked by the daleks, cybermen and master. Remember 2011? Well they went all Series (THAT’S right, ALL SERIES LONG) without a dalek episode! Shocking!!! Well thats my thoughts anyway. This years Cristmas Special looks fantabedosy!

I like it when they have more than one companion. It worked well in the old days, with Ian Barbara and Susan and all those guys. They had a great chemistry with each other.

Also, what you said about Daleks. It’s not shocking that they weren’t used last year. The Evil of the Daleks aired in 1967 and they were never seen again until 1972. That was a FIVE YEAR wait. In the classic series there was usually very big gaps between Dalek stories. It was only Russell T Davies who decided to use them every year.

This is how I like a Doctor Who Christmas Special to be facing monsters/villains on christmas. The trailer was a bit short but this already looks better than last year but to judge we have to watch it first.

Ah, finally, the episode title, The Snowmen! Great, the new companion, Clara! And evil looking snowmen? I can sense a creepy-like Christmas this year…. 😀

I’m really looking forward to it. I wonder if those kids were Clara’s children. I’m excited for the return of Vastra, Jenny and Strax (besides his humour that failed in the prequel…) and I’m happy that once again, this episode is very Christmas-y. Moffat has been making Smith’s Christmas Specials more like that, and I have that feeling I’m watching the best one yet! I CAN’T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! 😀 😀

Filming reports. And anyway it’s obvious! She’s telling then a story, most Victirian mothers wouldn’t do that hence the governess! Besides she look to young to have kids that age. The boy looks 8 and the girl looks 10. Pure logic. Elementary, my dear Kroton! 🙂
