Overnight viewing figures showed that Dinosaurs On A Spaceship was watched by 5.5 million viewers.

These overnight figures have become increasingly unreliable as to the true audience with many people choosing to watch the show at a later time.

Really enjoyed the episode, loved how Rory’s dad got involved so much.

If i had to rate it it would be my 3rd favorite episode.

I think part of the confusion the poster above has regarding the Silurians having a spaceship is that this story is pulling from the Classic Series storyline that introduced the Silurians which was just briefly touched on in The Hungry Earth. The Silurians (which is not what they called themselves btw) were active during the time of the Dinosaurs over 65 million years ago. They were highly advanced, albeit in a very different way from our current technology. There were also many, many different…tribes/cans/subspecies spread over the planet, the Doctor having encountered at least 3 of these on screen (classic series Silurians, Sea Devils, and New Series Silurians). Their scientists had discovered a rogue mini planet that was going to pass close by Earth and possibly cause massive catastrophes by stealing away the atmosphere, tidal waves, etc. the Sliurians and Sea Devils he had encountered prior to this story had all elected to go deep underground into survival hibernation chambers, and they took samples of the plant and animal life with them – indeed the Sliurians the 3rd Doctor encountered had a pet T Rex in the Caves they lived in! The Sea Devil and Silurian force the 5th Doctor met had a creature called a Myrka, unknown in the fossil record but resembling a cross between a giant electric eel and pantomime horse. 🙂
Anyway, this tribe of Silurians obviously broke rank with the underground dwellers and used their technology to build a massive survival ark capable of traveling in space (the Silurians from the 5th Doctor era already had under sea vessels that were very similar to space ships ~ so not a big leap to what is shown in Dino’s on s SpcShp and I love that it has such a non traditional design – very alien and believable! The Dins here were simply the descendants of the creatures they took with them millions of years ago having awoken from suspended animation and breeding (and presumably evolving depending on how long they had been procreating during their journey vs hyper sleep!
Personally I thought this was a fantastic story and the ship being a Silurian Space Ark made sense of the classicmseriesmapparent lack of such a venture – and would love to see the Doc encounter future arks that made the trip and now have off world societies ofmdinos and (once earthling) now alien homomrepotilicus!

It would have been nice to see him save the dinosaurs or go back in time and stop the arc from being invaded (some sort of after the whole show last scene). I like happy endings. We’re definitely seeing a darker Doctor emerging this year.

Don’t get me wrong it was a good episode but there were a lot of plot holes and these constant decreasing viewing figures are very bad. Obviously Doctor Who is not as good as it used to be. Moffat should pick up his game and START WRITING DECENT STORIES! Like I stated before, the next J.N.T.

Asylum of the daleks got a final rating of 8.3 million. Hardly declining viewing figures. Overnights are unreliable these days to say the figures are declining and considering even with 5.5 million viewers its still the 2nd highest rated programe that day based on overnight figures is really no need for panic .

It was great fun episode but leaves u with so many questions

    1. were did the silurians get a spaceship
    2. since when do silurians travel in space
    3. were did the silurians get dinosaurs
    4. why was it the future
5.why did it focus on an indian space program
6.why was the ship traveling for 2 millania
    7. how did the doctor meet a 19 centuary
8.why isa hunter from 1901 interested in dinosaurs on a spaceship
9.why does he know a ejyptian queen
    10. Why does this episode exist it makes no logical sensw
    11. why did the tardis materialise around the ponds
12.how did the silurians get there ship back

god, RTD would never leave us with plot holes and questions like these. with all the plot holes in the episode and its very concept the should have entitle the episode “The Impossible Ark”

      Not really

      1. Remember silurians are more techniclogically advanced than humans
      2. see my first point
      3. They used to live in that era
      4. It would have to be the future as technology isnt that advanced just now
      5. It explains the plot crashing into earth and the missles
      6. Still searching for a new home
      7. he has a tardis
      8. They didnt know it was dinosaurs till the cargo doors openened. Plus he mentioned about searching for a dinosaur tooth
      9. Does there really need to be a reason why he knows an egyption queen? Remember she is a queen so is famous and the doctor knows plenty of famous people
      10. Perfect sence to me and was very easy to understand
      11. Thats happened before during parting of the ways when the doctor materialised the tardis around rose and the dalek
      12. They didnt. Remember rory and brian pilotted the the ark away from the earth. Guessing they programmend it to crash on an unhabbited planet. Just because the planet was called Siluria doesnt mean they got their ship back. The doctor could have called it that.
The impossible ark just doesnt have the same ring to it and wouldnt have grabbed attention as much as dinosaurs in a spaceship

Nope. Ratings were down across the board and the only show with higher ratings than Who was the X Factor. The time shift should raise the ratings above 6 million. The way people watched TV has changed incredibly since the show returned. We are unlikely to see overnights hitting the 9 and 10 millions of the Tennant era thanks to TV recordings and iplayer. Everything’s changed now and the best way to tell if Doctor Who is doing well is to compare it to its opponents of which reality shows, soaps and Downtown Abbey are the only ones giving Doctor Who a run for their money.

Loved it! This is shaping up to be my favourite series since 2005. No pretentious complicated story arcs, full of stuff you can only do in Doctor Who, and it had me smiling all the way through.

And do you know the best thing? No Doctor Who Confidential.

I really enjoyed watching some dinosaurs on a spaceship with Queen Nefertiti and a bounty hunter and Rory’s dad and Mitchell & Webb. I would have hated it being followed immediately by 45 minutes of being shown how the dinosaurs were just CGI, and Mitchell & Webb being very witty and telling how they never actually used to watch Doctor Who as kids.

By the way, this episode totally makes up for that last Silurian thing which really ended abysmally.
