Jodie Whittaker says as the first female Doctor there’s less pressure on her and it’s an honour play a role that’s attainable to all…

“If you’ve never seen Doctor Who, or want to introduce your children or family and friends to it, this series is the perfect point to start,” says Chibnall. “It was really important to me that there’s no barrier to entry. You don’t need to know about anything that’s come before. We’ve got a new Doctor, all-new characters, all-new monsters, all-new stories. It’s going to be exciting, emotional and the most enormous fun.”

I must say Jodie is one brave woman, she will be more than aware that being the first female Doctor she has a lot of pressure on her because if it doesn’t work she will get most of the blame as she will be the Doctor!
She is the best looking Doctor we have had at the very least.
It should never have happened but it has and I hope I can embrace the change, I’m trying but it isn’t easy!

IF it’s a BIG fiasco I won’t so much blame the actress as Steven Moffat for real world agenda driven Who universe tinkering making this possible and Chris Chibnall for finally jumping the shark with actual changing of the gender as well as potentially going even more overboard with agenda peddling.
      .
What concerns me is if it doesn’t seem to be a sufficient condition that producers/head writers of a series that claim to ” fans” of an original series are necessarily (or always) the best custodians for a revived series.

The fan base remains split and I think there are some parallels with J J Abraham’s influenced Star Trek and Star Trek Discovery in which that franchise has been taken in a direction that flies in the face of things initially premised from the original series although in the case of Star Trek post “Enterprise” and “Nemesis” its been MUCH WORSE as there has been scant regard for ANY canon and witters on Discovery who seem ignorant or contemptuous of much of the canon Trek universe.(A producer of Discovery who is alleged not to know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars and writers who are alleged to have asked “what’s Deep Space Nine”?)

If this goes horribly wrong Moffat and Chibnall (especially Moffat who claims to know more about classic Who than most.) as custodians of the “modern series” will have only themselves to blame.

It’s interesting that Chibnail wants the series to be totally new and suggests that for this first run there will no returning adversaries, and that if you’ve never seen the series before, ( i.e.: lived under a box perhaps), this is the time to start watching. Oh, let’s not forget, they’re not assistants or companions any more, they’re ‘friends’…..awww. Russel T Davis set a really good format for the reboot, ignore it at your peril!

Its a token gesture, just like the teaser at the weekend. The big news will be at the forthcoming SDCC including a proper trailer or video clip, so to avoid the complaints of previous years, they’ve done these released these two small gestures.

Does this mean all the history of the show has been thrown out? No I don’t think so, the history of DW will always be needed, even if it has been poorly tampered with in the last few years.

I,m all for the show pushing forwards. So all new adversaries is a good thing. I,d like the occasional old enemy to appear, mind.

Please don’t make this mean we don’t get any returning monsters or characters.
