I say if they must use them once a year, use them for a flashback at some point during the season and be done with them. They are way too old fashioned and boring.

I’m definitely looking forward for this one! With the Daleks being my favourite Dr. Who villain, I hope this is a good one. The Marine/Soldiers look like standard Dalek Fodder, but the trailers make it look interesting.
I’m not saying Deep Breath was bad, it was fuctional, but could have been great. Hopefully this one on premise alone seems far more interesting, after being somewhat underwhelmed by Deep Breath. EXTERMINATE!

They made such a fuss about the new paradigm daleks in series 5 they were only in a few episodes then they went back to the old version and now the old version is on all of the time

That’s because of the reboot of the universe at the end of series 5 isn’t it? I believe the daleks were rebooted as well.

No, the New Paradigm Daleks still exist, just as an officer class. They show up in the Parliament scenes in Asylum of the Daleks, and there’s a dead Supreme in the background of the Asylum scenes. I really do hope they actually show Daleks of the New Paradigm killing people. It might give the fans more reason to fear them.

    More Daleks, Dull,dull,dull,

With the frequency at which The Daleks keep turning up the Doctor should be yawning like the rest of us! Let’s face it they need a rest for a while just like the audience,

Lately they’ve been about as frightening as cold custard, and don’t get me started on The Tele-Tubby Daleks,

    All together now “Uh-Oh!”

Don’t get me wrong the Daleks are a Great Foe but they need to be used sparingly, The Best Story of course being Genisis of The Daleks!

As others have said apparently it’s a stipulation of the Terry Nation estate that their used yearly or so which I think is fair enough as in other Sci-Fi like Star Trek nobody complains about the Klingons appearing too often.
But your right that they need to be more orginally used in a way this forthcoming episode hopefully promises and more of a fear factor put back into them or it wouldn’t seem so out of place for the Doctor to say:

      “OH NOT YOU AGAIN!!!”

Don’t forget, that apart from the very brief appearance of a damaged Paradigm Supreme Dalek in ‘The Wedding of River Song’, the Daleks did not actually have a story during series 6 back in 2011, so they did have a year off.

I think what the daleks need is a long running story arc that sort of gives a feeling of progression over the course of the series.

For example from series 1 in 2005 it was established that the daleks were extinct per say and needed to revive themselves and thus for years onward we got the daleks trying to bring back their race every year and thus this made a perfect story arc for the daleks that could be picked up in the next year.

The reason why it feels inconstant is because the dalek episodes are stand alone and do not really connect to the next there needs to a thread from this years dalek episode to when another one is shown with it either being next year or the year after.

      August 24th, 2014 - 1:07am

Well if Gallifrey is out of their reach there can be no resumption of the Time War which can also mean that apart from Dealing with the Doctor (as this episode maybe also hints) Skaro’s finest recreated by the Progenior Device can refocus once more on being a threat to everyone else in the universe. If done more originally there should be a basis for good threaded stories with that.

    • The Moffat Paradox

      August 24th, 2014 - 11:25am

Did also think that the latest design of Cybermen would be now a more formidable opponent for Skaro’s finest in any protrayal of a protracted conflict. But then it was only Skaro’s finest that ended the deadlock at Trenzalore.

Think manipulating the pathweb must be involved here.

This also seems a bit reminiscient of the “I Borg” episode of Star Trek Next Generation when the crew of the Enterprise D come across a Borg drone they nickname Hugh that has become disconnected from the Borg collective’s consciousness creating the opportunity to upload a devastating virus Captain Picard eventually vetoes as being unethical as it’s destructiveness would make them no better than the Borg.

People the title isn’t inside a dalek, it’s into the dalek, that could be the daleks mind, it could be psychological, they go into a daleks mind, and a “choice that could change the daleks” does the doctor have the choice to turn the daleks GOOD!? But who is he to turn them good, when he doesn’t even know if he’s a good man himself

Btw I think by inside the a dalek, it maybe more psychological, so they share a mind with a dalek, see what a dalek thinks and sees, see the world through the blue eye stalk, and change the daleks for ever? Maybe the chance to turn them good, but who had the right to turn a dalek good, when the doctor doesn’t even know if he’s good himself?

  • Am I a Good Man?

I think that the Daleks have gone just about as far as they can have gone in the show so far. Going into a Dalek isn’t unique as such as it is sort of repeating what happened in Asylum of the Daleks.

It’ll be good to see a fully kitted out Dalek fleet again though as lately they have either been on the brink of extinction (Victory of the Daleks, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks) or the Dalek episodes have focused too much on individual Dalek/group of Daleks (such as in Dalek, The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End).

I’d personally like to see a decent Dalek episode where once again the action fits in with the classic Daleks music.

God if they’re going inside a Dalek I hope Steven Moffat realises that a Dalek is not a robot that can be manoeuvred around in like the teselecta but has a Dalek mutant inside……because to be honest if your going inside a Dalek the eye stalk is like the furthest you can walk until there’s a massive drop down into a Dalek mutant fiddling with its little computer screen…….I hope this episode doesn’t paint the Daleks as robots

I highly doubt we will see them again in this new era.

They was largely hated by fandom as it was, and I like to think every Paradigm Dalek was wiped out by the Doctor in ‘The Time of the Doctor’ with all of them on that huge Emperor Dalek like mothership.

From now on, it’s Time War Daleks all the way, and hopefully, the Paradigm Daleks will be a long forgotten, and bad, memory in the back of our minds.

    • Tardisnt

      August 14th, 2014 - 7:57pm

I just want to see their end on screen. I didn’t mind them, but if they did want to get rid of them, they should do it in an episode.

    • The Other

      August 15th, 2014 - 9:18am

I loved the Paradigm Daleks, especially with their AOTD tweaks, and would love to see them return!
As for the idea that they were wiped out in TOTD, since bronze Daleks were the only ones seen attacking the planet then it would probably just be them on the ship, not paradigm

    • The Moffat Paradox

      August 15th, 2014 - 11:43am

Steven Moffat`s also said as a fallback position that the Paradigms are the officer class which would suggest the Time War design is used for Daleks who have the same pure Paradigm DNA for the infantry/footsoldiers(So to speak.) as there were no non pure DNA Daleks left after Victory.
Theres nothing wrong with them in my view as they are still essentially Dalek and they would have gained more popularity if they were used more effectively earlier and better as it’s been suggested their supposed to have things like hidden weaponary. The red designated warrior ones are maybe to be seen as special forces if they don’t fully assume the role of the ones in the Time War design.

    • Professor When

      August 16th, 2014 - 12:43pm

I love the Paradigm to bits, and have a theory myself; at the end of ‘Victory’ the Paradigm ventured out into space, locating rogue Time War (or previous) ships. They then pretend to forge an alliance with these groups, taking advantage of their drone forces and machinery before exterminating them (as they are impure Daleks), thus killing two Bane with one stone. Perhaps we saw this in practise in ‘Asylum’…? It would explain why a Dalek team so obsessed with purity would approve of Dalek-Human hybrids; they are merely humouring the Inferior Daleks so they can take advantage of their technologies, before, in time exterminating them, as seen in ‘Victory’.

It’s a shame that Moffat seemed to bow down to whining fans to be honest. Not to insult those who don’t like the Paradigm, I just think we should have given them a chance before he demoted them. :/

    • The Moffat Paradox

      August 16th, 2014 - 1:51pm

Well I interpted Victory as meaning that with activation of the Progenitor Device the remaining Time War Daleks had served their purpose which is why they so readily assented to their own extermination. With that and the ship the Paridgms had everything they needed to create a new Dalek Empire
But I agree that Moffat should have stuck to his guns with the new design as were supposed to be the deadliest Daleks with those casings yet.
“All hail the new Daleks! All hail the new Daleks!”

    • Dalek The Supreme

      August 24th, 2014 - 11:31pm

The New Paradigm Daleks had potential, but so far, they haven’t taken advantage of this potential after The Big Bang. They had a victory over the Doctor and shot him in Series 5, but they haven’t been used well ever since. Before they’re replaced entirely, they should really elaborate on the purpose of the Eternal Dalek and make use of the rear hatch weapons.

Not the most interesting title or synopsis, but at least won’t have to wait long for the Daleks to face the new Doctor, since a lot of fan’s probably feel that when there is a new man playing the Doctor, his acting ability is really put to the test when faced against the Dalek’s.

On the other hand, this story is called ‘Into the Dalek’ . . . what if inside one of the Daleks was his holy evilness himself ? . . . . the 1 true creator, god and Emperor of the Daleks !!!!.

    SIMON COWELL !! . . . . no, only joking, and I can’t stand the guy anyway . . . .

There is a funny story behind it, you see the Daleks from what I know are not owned by the BBC but the terry nation estate and there was an agreement that the Daleks need to be featured in some way or they would never be in the series again. That’s what I heard at least.

    • DOCTOR WHO ONE

Far as I know, the Terry Nation estate was just worried the Daleks redesign would be messed up so that they would not be recognizable. Who knows, I’m just glad the BBC got them back in time for good old series 1 πŸ˜€

    • The Werewolf

The Terry Nation Estate legally requires the Daleks to appear at least once every year or they won’t be able to use them at all.
