Doctor Who theme for ‘immersive’ theatre show

Doctor Who theme for ‘immersive’ theatre show

From BBC News…

Doctor Who fans are to be plunged into one of the Time Lord’s adventures in an “immersive” theatre show created by the acclaimed company Punchdrunk.

Punchdrunk are famous for transforming entire buildings into mysterious locations which audiences explore as the action unfolds around them.

They had kept details of their latest show The Crash of the Elysium, which opens in Salford on 30 June, secret.

But it has now been revealed that will be based around the BBC time traveller.

The show has been created with Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat.

It is aimed at children aged six to 12, who will “become the stars of an exhilarating live Doctor Who adventure”, according to its website.

Punchdrunk have previously created theatrical experiences based around works by Shakespeare, Chekhov and Goethe, and are currently in New York staging a version of Macbeth, which has been extended after earning rave reviews.

I’m not shure if anyone ever will read this but I went to this. It was amazing! On “doctor who experience” someoner said “this is the closes any of us will get to beeing in doctor who”. I’m sorry, but it’s not. THIS IS! weeping angels are in it and actualy move when the lights are out. plus matt smith makes it REALY feel like doctor who. The enviroment was amazing, the story was amazing, the actors were amazing, the lighting was amazing, the realism was amazing!

Hmm, when it says “Aimed at children 6 to 12” does it mean that they are the target audience, but slightly older kids can go as well if they want? Because I’m a year over the restrictive age, and I’ll be two years over in September, so would I still be able to go?

Ooooooooohh… so the Fourth Dimension secret video/messages were for this? Lol, we were spending ages trying to figure out how this video would fit into the second half of the series (I thought it was a ganger realising he was going to die/get shot soon plotline).

    …But it’s for a stage show… very clever!

I wish I had the time to fly to the UK to see this. I’m a fan of immersive theatre, and have worked on similar projects myself (not Doctor Who releated of course). Should be a treat for those who manage to go!
