Fourteen Big Blockbuster – Movie Episodes To Come

With thanks to BBC Pictures

Filming has just started on Series 7 of Doctor Who in Cardiff.

This series will see the last days of the Ponds with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill returning for their final, rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor. Amy and Rory have been at the Doctor’s side for more than two series but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?

On returning for his third series as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith says : “It’s thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends.” Karen Gillan adds: “It’s just brilliant to be back on the TARDIS with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet” Plus new guest stars so far confirmed to star will include Rupert Graves, Mark Williams and David Bradley. Series 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend.

Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year. Fourteen big, blockbuster – movie episodes – each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you’ve never seen them before.

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales Production for BBC ONE.

I loved the last series. The only story I haven’t seen is Night Terrors.

I thought it was quite a mixed bag, but at the same time it was mostly great and everything I disliked about Series 5 (apart from the Daleks) was done better in this series.

The Doctor, the stories, the meaningfulness of it all was better. Can you not follow the story or something ? ❓ Do they need to make the Doctor less interesting for next Series ?

I like River song, and wouldn’t say doctor who is terrible, but it has gone downhill, because i was watching some eps from series 3 today, and they were brilliant, i could never get bored of them!! i also think it is getting scarier and more complicated for younger kids.

Well I like Moffat and I certainly like Matt Smith who, in my opinion, is the best Doctor since the shows revival. I slightly agree with what you said about River Song though. I don’t hate her, I just think she appeared way too much and once her secret was out she didn’t feel like a mystery anymore. 🙂

I disagree. Although some viewers cannot stand the episodes of Series 6, I feel they have gotten much better from Series 5 and there is no reason to hate them.

      March 12th, 2012 - 6:11pm

I like Series 5 and 6. They are my favourite seasons of new Who. I’ve really enjoyed Matt Smith. Moffat writes his Doctor brilliantly and Matt plays the scenes well. Matt is much more Doctor-ly than Tennant. And the scripts ARE good!

    • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

      April 19th, 2012 - 4:46pm

since moffat took over, things have slippped. tennant used to say time lords cant die, suddenly, they can. where is rivers sonic screwdriver???… it takes one person to start, but it takes the same person to finish a good product.

well i think it makes it kind f a betterstory if time lords can die

and theres more to come so river coul get her scrediver in the future

and i think moffat is great

    • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

      June 18th, 2012 - 9:22pm

True, but then this whole death thing confuses the viewer. i have to admit, series 6 was better than 5, i watched the vampires of venice today, and after watching some of series 6, the vampires looked terrible!! i still love the old ones, but because of moffat and smith, doctor who just wont be the same as it was for so long. matt is starting to get onm ynerves a touch too. amy an rory going will be a big shock. there is only 6 eps this year, i think give it a few more, and the BBC will take Doctor who off the TV because of whats been going on.

    • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

      June 18th, 2012 - 9:24pm

a few more years that is. the merchandise is terrible, you dotn get good action figures anymore, you just get the spare parts of others painted in a new colour or thrown onto another body.

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      June 19th, 2012 - 8:38pm

Just because you’re not so keen on Doctor Who at the moment doesn’t mean the BBC will take it off the air. To be honest, the merchandise is great at the moment. Yes, the figures have been lacking recently, but to me it’s the books, comics etc that really count because they fill the gap when the show isn’t The BBC are not cutting down on Doctor Who. I believe it was Moffat’s idea to split Series 7 between late 2012/early 2013 and I think he’s right to do so. Doctor Who is much more creepier during the dark, cold nights and that’s how it should be. 🙂

    • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

      June 23rd, 2012 - 1:57pm

True, but I stand by what i said about the merchandise, we could have had some good figures this year. last year, when series 6 was split, frankly it annoyed me. i am not so good with cliff hangers, i think have it split in one year was fine, but having it split over 2? i think that is a bit much. but then i suppose it fits with jenna at christmas. but then again, you might ask why amy and rory shouldnt just do a whole series then leave. it may be better on colder nights, but i think around this time, the TV is terrible, and there isnt much good stuff to watch. a couple of years ago i could just sit back and look foward to the 13 weeks ahead of Doctor Who.

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      June 23rd, 2012 - 3:34pm

I’m probably the only one who liked the season spilt aren’t I?
It just felt nice to have Doctor Who on all year round. Some in Spring, some in Autumn and then an episode at Christmas. Also, cliffhangers are good! They make you think about what will happen next and get you really excited for the next episode (apart from Dragonfire Part One ;)). I’m still in shock about the end of Sherlock Series 2 and that’s not going to be resolved till next year!

Great news to hear that David Bradley, Mark Williams and Rupert Graves are to appear in the next season. Three total class acts, definitely.
As for the classic monster as you have never seen them before, like other fans I pray it’s the Ice Warriors or the Zygons, but the rumour-mills have mostly been peddling the Yeti to be coming back.
Regarding the Ponds, Mr Moffat is saying that although it will be a heart-breaking departure for the Ponds, it doesnt necessarily mean they are killed off. It’s just one of those heart-tugging goodbyes, like Rose when she left.
And as for the new assistant for the 2nd half of the season, again going by the concensus of the rumours and hints from various sources it wouldn’t surprise me if the new assistant is an alien female, perhaps one like the one in the DWM comic strips a year or two ago. That would add a new, dangerous edge perhaps, not knowing what their [possible hidden] agenda is, like that character in the comic strip – it would introduce a dynamic not seen since Turlough was on-board. Or maybe it could be the silurian female from the last season? We will see!
Plenty to look forward to anyway.

I hope it isn’t the Ice Warriors. Nothing to do with the monsters, more the fact that the head of the design eteam “despises” them (and that is a quote). If they get brought back their design will be ruined, and I don’t want that to happen to them, I’d rather wait another few years for a new person to come in.

    • SJI

      February 24th, 2012 - 8:09pm

crikey, yes, good point. when i think back to the return of the silurians [was that head of the design team responsible for them too?] i was disappointed in their ‘look’. Sketches showing what could have been, were shown in DWM at the time, and one or two of the designs were superb…. faithful to the original, but scarier, and better-crafted. Quite why they then overlooked that design and went for the scaly almost-human look, is beyond me. Very disappointed. so if that Head of Design was overseeing that, then i definitely see your point! :O) maybe it will be the yeti anyway, or the zygons.

    • Anonymous

      February 25th, 2012 - 12:37am

That was the writing team in the case of he Silurians, at least it was established that they were just a seperate sub-species so the other four groups previously seen are still out there.

    • SJI

      February 25th, 2012 - 9:10am

Yes, true enough, good point :O) so there’s still a chance their cooler looking cousins are still out there, as you say. And of course the Sea Devils! Hmm. Now there’s a thought! Oh, and what price a CGI Myrka? Perhaps not! LOL. cheers.

It would be nice if they can show all 14 eps without splitting the series but I doubt

It won’t get split, but I think there is achance that it might run over into the new year (but still be one block of episodes, with the Christmas Special not getting broadcast on the day itself).

    • Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)

If series 7 starts in October then it’ll run into the new year. If not there’ll be a very short gap between the end of the series and the Christmas special.

    • Justininferno

      February 27th, 2012 - 5:31pm

Series 7 is split. Part one is starts in late August or September 2012 and ends in December. Then the Christmas episode. Then series 7 part 2 resumes in 2013, however, there is no clarification that this means a start in January 2013.

    • Anonymous

There isn’t going to be a split, Steven Moffat has already confirmed that, some of it may broadcast in 2013, but not because of a split.

Besides, if it started in August/September and ended in Decemer then it would be a full series anyway.

At the moment it looks like we won’t be getting anymore Jack soon although John Barrowman has hinted (a lot) that he would love to come back and work with Matt Smith.
In an interview last week though, Matt Smith revealed that he had just found out about a great character appearing in series 7. Some think he may possibly be referring to Jack (as Matt stated that we’ll know him) but he was most likely referring to one of the three guest stars just confirmed (most likely Rupert Graves since he’s in Sherlock).

I don’t know what bit you were watching but there are many points in teh classic series where the companoins are more important than the Doctor. In fact when the show starts it is done almost entirely from Ian and Barbara’s point of view. When they leave Steven becomes central to the plot and the pattern continues with companions taking equal status to the Doctor in many cases (such as Jamie, the Brigadier or Sarah). Then there is Leela who the Doctor’s attempts to educate become a very subtle plot arc, then Romana comes in and takes over the show for almost three series. After that Adric/Nyssa/Tegan take over the show and later on that decade the final series were all about the development of the character of Ace.

The companions have always been significant, the problem is that it some people like picking holes in the RTD version and as a result everyone starts imagining the classic series was quite different from what it was, although in fairness to Moffat he has started taking it back to a more traditional feeling TARDIS crew.

I think ( and hope ) Amy won’t die as Karen said she wants her to leave with everything she wanted so they no long ago wrote the scripts so Karen may have asked them for Amy to live and it would make since as like she said, at the start of series five she was looking for ‘who she was’ and ‘where she belonged’ so it would make since that she found this

yes, it was confirmed in the original press release in 2011 confirming series 7 and hinting that the series would be broadcast in 2 parts again – which it is. Series 7 part 1 runs September 2012 to December 2012. Then the Christmas episode and then series 7 part 2 sometime in 2013 along with the big 50th anniversary episodes. 14x 45 minute episodes.

      sorry, 13 x 4 min eps. Typo.

    • Anonymous

      February 23rd, 2012 - 7:21pm

But the split series was later debunked by Moffat. He said in DWM a few issues back that having another split would defeat the point in doing it in the first place (to make the broadcasting more interesting) so there won’t be one this time round.

If part of it does get broadcast in 2013, then it will have to be because the series runs over Christmas through to January, not because a part of it has been seperated.

    • Justininferno

      February 27th, 2012 - 5:33pm

Possibly, but as far as I have seen – series 7 will be marketed and sold as series 7 part one and series 7 part 2.

Lorna Bucket or Mels. Maybe even Sally Sparrow.
If Amy and Rory are killed off then the Doctor’s gonna be a bit depressed when he meets his new friend. That’s why Russel t Davies had new companion’s at the start of a new series.

I recently learned that 2 classic series monsters are making an appearance, but it didint say if they where monsters from the original series who havint yet made an appearance, or ones who have, like the Daleks and Cybermen.

At least one from the 60s and at least one from the 70s.

At least we can rule out the Kandyman.
