Foxes to appear in new series of Doctor Who

British singer-songwriter Foxes will perform a track and appear in the new series of Doctor Who, which lands this August on BBC One.

Foxes, speaking about her casting said: “I can’t believe I’m actually going to be in an episode of Doctor Who! Especially as it all came about from a chance meeting. I was playing a gig and got chatting to the show’s production team who’d been watching my performance. I was telling them how much I loved Doctor Who and next thing they invited me to be on it. I couldn’t think of a better place to make my acting debut than on one of the UK’s most iconic shows!”

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, said: “We are completely thrilled that the amazingly talented Foxes is joining us on board … well, you’ll see. Let’s just say, the Doctor is finally catching up on his phone calls.”

Grammy award-winning Foxes has recently been on tour in the UK, supporting her album Glorious, which recently debuted top 5 in the official album chart. This follows on from her three hit singles – Youth, Let Go For Tonight and Holding Onto Heaven.

Guest stars confirmed to join Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in the new series, which will air on BBC One this August, include Frank Skinner, Ben Miller, Tom Riley, Keeley Hawes and Hermione Norris.

Doctor Who’s had guest stars in the RTD era, why are people only complaining now? I don’t see a problem.

Classic Series has guest stars in the 1980’s as well like Brian Blessed in ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ for example.

Very talented singer, been a fan of her’s since she started, she’s a really sweet girl and I’m sure she will fit right in. Really happy they are casting her, not sure why everyone is getting so wound up about someone young and current being on the show. Gives it a new lease of life and freshens things up. Just what the show has been needing recently.

Seems to me they’re throwing in all these guest stars so that Capaldi’s first series gets more views. Makes you wonder if they’re worried by the backlash from certain so called fans about his casting? (I for one am damn excited to see Capaldi. We don’t need an all star cast to show how good HE is…)

Fans who don’t want to watch the show because of who’s been cast as the Doctor before his debut are really not worth calling fans. Save judgement until his second story is over is what I tend to go for.

A bit worried about the way the BBC is starting to stuff New Who with “guest stars”. A little too reminiscent of the final few years of Classic Who for my liking. Sometimes less is more BBC !!!

Oh no, not another person Moffat just randomly pulls in to ruin another episode of Dr Who 🙁

The one thing that bothers me is that this is her first acting job, so she might not be very skilled…

Katherine Jenkins first major acting role was in ‘Doctor Who’ and she was excellent. Singers can often act well.

Could be that phone call at the end of The Big Bang. An Egyptian goddess loose on the Orient Express in space. The phone call came from “your Majesty”… Probably isn’t, but you never know,

I don’t know what to make of this. I’ve never heard of this singer, let alone listened to one of her songs, so I have no idea if she’s bad or good. I liked Emilia Jones’s singing in The Rings of Akhaten, but that’s a completely different person. I suppose I just have to wait and see.

I agree! Billie Piper was a singer and nobody was bothered about her, so was Katherine Jenkins and again nobody was bothered so why should we be bothered about her? As Darren said, Give her a chance even if shes bad or not she might be good at acting we just have to wait and see.

    • Tardisbob

      May 30th, 2014 - 8:55am

It was done well in a Christmas carol because at Christmas everyone likes a sing song, the rings of akhaten was below average, who wants to see doctor who become the British version of glee with a sing song every five minutes.

    May 29th, 2014 - 12:32pm

With yet another “celebrity” being announced (this one singing no less), i have a horrible and growing feeling that our new Dr is simply forgetting story and script and is having to bring in these people as a way of covering thin storylines?

I hope i am proven wrong!!

I know Steven Moffat’s writing is highly controversial among Doctor Who fans, but I personally enjoyed most of his writing, (Series 6B and Clara’s inconsistent character excluded) and I have faith that I, at least, will be happy with Series 8.

How? Though his writing is somewhat controversial among some long-time fans of the show, it’s been under his era that the Doctor has become more alien and eccentric, like in the Classic Series, and the show has become more popular in other countries.
