It’s Doctor Who At The Proms Day!

It’s Doctor Who At The Proms Day

Doctor Who At The Proms
Monday 26 August
4.00-5.15pm BBC1

When tickets for the Proms season went on sale back in May, the Doctor Who Prom sold out in a matter of minutes. If you weren’t lucky enough to secure a ticket, or if you simply want to relive the experience, here’s your chance to enjoy some of the highlights from the show.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic and much-loved BBC series, this Bank Holiday television special features Murray Gold’s popular music for the show, accompanied by specially edited visual sequences from the Doctor’s most recent adventures.

Hosted by the Doctor’s friends, Madame Vastra and Strax, the concert also includes a look back at ‘classic’ Doctor Who series and the music created by the legendary BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

Featuring special guest appearances by Matt Smith (making one of his final public outings as The Doctor before leaving the title role later in the year); Jenna-Louise Coleman (who plays Clara, Doctor’s current companion); Peter Davison (the 5th Doctor) and Carole Ann Ford (the Doctor’s first companion and granddaughter Susan Foreman).

Performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the London Philharmonic Choir, with soloists Elin Manahan Thomas, Allan Clayton and Kerry Ingram.

Just watched and thoroughly enjoyed it. I accept it was highlights. I presume the BBC will include fuller version on dvd later in year or even on tv nearer to November.
Best bit for me was the rousing song from ‘Rings of …’. immense production, loved it, it was so moving.

I’m a Bit Disappointed with it because they cut out quite a lot

Like the Song for 50, Carmen, The final Chapter of Amelia Pond, Vale Decem, Create a Soundtrack Competition Winners, La fille aux cheveux de lin (The Girl with the Flaxen Hair)and the bit about Dudley Simpson

Also they cut bits from Matt and Jenna’s in character appearance and from Coral Ann Ford’s speech about the Daleks when she first met them in rehearsals and how they were told not to use them as bumper cars

Also they cut out one of the most important pieces of the whole prom and it was called The Companion Suite

Would have preferred it if they performed the original 1963 version of the Doctor Who theme rather then the 2012 version, since the latest one was heard at the start of the Prom’s, so it would have been more fitting to end it with the 1963 version.

I’m rather glad the song for 50th was not played in the program shown today on TV, cos I heard the song on YouTube and I don’t like it at all, I think it’s rather dreadful, but that’s just my opinion on it. I’d rather have ‘Song of Freedom’ as the actual song for 50th if it had not been originally used in series 4’s finale when Earth returned back to it’s rightful place in the universe.
