Don’t really know this actress, so will wait and see. We all knew it would happen and I can’t believe people who say they won’t watch now because the Doctor’s now a woman! Reminds me of the Craig’s-Not-Bond brigadeโ€ฆoh how wrong you were.
Look forward to the Christmas Special and series 11, just hope the new show runner brings something good to the table.
Don’t think my son will be too happy about it, but I’m sure he won’t give up on the Doctor!

Theta was NO obvious gender issue with Craig so the credibility leap from the other actors was nothing like as pronounced.

Well my wife and daughter have just said I will have to watch Doctor Who on my own from now on!
I am not happy at all with the gender change but I will watch and see how it pans out, as a long time fan I feel sadness that we have to have this change forced upon us fans, because as you can see it has split us and caused upset that did not ever have to happen.
Some are saying those who stop watching will not be missed, well you couldn’t be more wrong because this could see it cancelled again and I remember only too well those dark days.
Jodie is rather nice on the eye so perhaps it’s not all doom and gloom. I just can’t see it working? But we will see.

To be honest as a traditional whovian and fan of the tv series for all of my life. I think the choice to cast a female actor in this iconic role is a courageous challenge to what has been seen by most traditional fans like myself as previously being an iconic male lead acting role. It is a brave decision to try and move with modern times and cast Jodi in this lead role. The success of recasting the Master as Missy proved to be popular. Maybe it is time for the show to be given a reboot and be brought into the 21st century Dr Who needs a much needed popularity boost as over the last couple of years the audience ratings has been erratic for the programme. I wish the new doctorr who Jodi Whittaker all the best for her tenure as the new doctor ( Will she technically still be called the doctor ?) . Maybe it is a time for a change, a new beginning ๐Ÿ™‚ Tom

It didn’t need a boost. I lot of people like myself watch it online so ratings means nothing in the internet era.
I got into it from Netflix and now it’s gone. I would pay extra to have it back. My only other option is “elsewhere online” lol.
I’ll give it a chance but I prefer it to be a male.

If the choice of a female actor WAS that courageous they would have chosen someone over 55. Just PC.

of course Chris Chibnall could pull a rabbit out the hat and produce some thrilling sci-fi

Female James Bond next, awful choice to change the gender of the Doctor. We let the Master slip because when knew something had to please the politically correct BBC with the overwhelming pressure placed upon them by feminists. We even let the lesbians through the past series go. But this is the death of the show as we know it. The creator of Doctor Who has turned in his grave today.

You hope people turn off? Wow. Such ressentiment! The show thrives on change – actors, writers, show runners, viewers… This is a big change no doubt, but surely that is just Who doing what it does best doing it even more-so. Chill dude.

    • Pats86

      July 16th, 2017 - 5:57pm

At the end of the day, whether the Doctor is played by a man or a woman doesn’t matter. The writers know exactly what they are doing, and as such, I am really looking forward to seeing Jodie in action.

    Good Luck, Jodie!

It doesn’t matter Anonymous. Resist change if you wish – but change is the very ethos of the show

    • Anonymous

50+ years is a long time. This type of change should have happened years ago.

    • Chris

      July 17th, 2017 - 10:55am

I agree Anonymous. This should have happened years ago. They kept putting it off and resisting the call to change to try and change the gender. They have finally done it. If they didn’t there would be an even bigger call to do it next time, and the one after that. But its done now. It’s happened. Everyone breathe. And don’t blink.

I am personally not happy at the choice, but thats just my opinion. It is really unfair so say that what I am saying, just because I disagree with you, is pathetic. I haven’t said that your opinion is pathetic, so why would you be so small-minded and say that about my opinion and about others who feel the same as me?

    • Doctor Stu

      July 16th, 2017 - 4:53pm

The only thing pathetic is that people haven’t given the poor woman a chance she only had a 30 second teaser clip. If people were judging her harshly after her first episode then yes maybe I’d understand a bit more because you’ve had 40 minutes to gauge whether you think she fits the role or not, a 30 second clip of a hooded figure who shows their face for 10 seconds is not enough for people to be so critical about

    • Weeping Angel

      July 16th, 2017 - 5:04pm

Booboo: I know right, I remember when Peter Capaldi was revealed there was a lot of hate, but not as much as this reveal.

Doctor Stu: I don’t think people are judging her just based on this 60 second clip (It was 60 seconds not 30 seconds, but I don’t blame you, I was shocked when I found out that it was a minute long ๐Ÿ™‚ ), people are judging her based on other shows she has been in, like Broadchurch that they didn’t like her in.
