I work on saturdays until 6pm and dont get home until after 7pm so anytime after 7pm would be always better, for working people, like myself – prob 7:30pm so your average 5-10 year olds can watch it before their bed time. My son is 5 and a half and is obsessed with the series. I will watch tonight’s episode on virgin catch up tv – on the iplayer, when it appears after 9pm usually. I can’t wait.

Hey peeps, don’t worry about these viewing figures. For some reason, loads of people were unavailable to watch this Episode. My friends and I, who watch Doctor Who religiously, were all unavailable to watch it. Weird, huh?

Come on now! These ratings are pretty consistant with all of the Matt Smith era! Just look back over the Ratings link. About half of the fifth season had FINAL ratings of around 6m so this season is doing fine. And if an episode is finishing on 7.5m now, it’s also usually getting at LEAST 1.5m watching on i Player, so that’s 9 MILLION people watching an episode if WHO! good or what!? doesn’t matter how or when they watch, just so long as they watch!

No, no, no, no. That is not what I wanted to see, Doctor Who hasn’t had a 4 million in a while, this isn’t very positive.

iPlayer does. To be honest though, the recent decline in viewing figures is probably down to the fact that the last 15-30 minutes of Doctor Who clash with Britain’s Got Talent. It seems like 1/2 the nation are deluded into thinking that Britain’s Got Talent is quality TV

no, i player is not included in the official final figures

all they count is people we recorded the programme and then watched it within 7 days

Finally, even if the show did get low ratings with live+7 included, the high AI scores it garners would make the BBC think twice before canceling it.

Oh and it’s growing popularity in the US, Canada, and Australia along with the other 200 countries I is watched would pretty much cover up for lost viewers in the UK.

But what I’m trying to say is that it hasn’t lost viewers, it’s just that less people are watching it on TV. According to the Live+7 figures, every episode increased in viewership by 3 million viewers when other platforms were added up.

Doctor Who’s ratings are also exploding in America, so it here to stay!

Live+7 figures are now available for the series of Doctor Who episodes shown in September.

The Live+7 figures give the total numbers viewing a programme within a week of transmission, including all watching on PVR, transmission repeats and on iPlayer.

Each Doctor Who episode increased its audience by an average of 52% from the initial overnight figure, a much larger increase than achieved by the average BBC One drama, which had a 25% increase. Just under 10% of viewers watched on iPlayer, with the vast majority of iPlayer viewers time-shifting the programme.

With an average increase of 3.07 million, Doctor Who has the second-largest average increase for Drama in 2012, just being beaten by Steven Moffat’s other series, Sherlock, which increased each episode by an average of 3.34 million viewers. Doctor Who has the largest percentage increase for Drama for the year so far.

Title. Live+7 First Run Repeats Time Shift i Player
      Asylum of the Daleks 9.65m 51% 66% 4% 20% 10%
      Dinosaurs on a Spaceship8.64m 59% 63% 5% 23% 9%

That’s a bit bad, why can’t they put that lottery show on at this time, and move Doctor Who to a later time?

Directly against Britain’s Got Talent? It would have faired even worse. The overnights don’t really matter as much these days.

No, I meant to say after that lottery show, which should be moved to Who’s time, put The Voice on then for half an hour, then Who, so kids can watch it, then the last half hour of The Voice.

yes, the figures are dropping very low COMPARED to old episodes and I can see why people are worried, but I can tell you it won’t be cancelled or anything like that. Remember this, despite lower figures, IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS THE 3RD WATCHED SHOW OF THE NIGHT. Think about the fact that it is almost always, your not going to cancel a show or anything that beats thousands of other shows, even if the figures are lower than before. It is still very popular and even if it became the 5th most watched show, it would still be popular.

it’s because it is being put on the same time as BGT!

For now, everything is fine. But don’t relax. The ratings have been steadily decreasing since series 5 (yes, including the final ones) and if it continues that trend, DW is going down. Personally, I don’t see it still being here this time in ten years.

    • Matt Smithy

      April 29th, 2013 - 8:11am

Well it is hard to see any show last 10 years anymore, especially after being going 8 years already, and being on the same time as BGT doesn’t help, but REALLY think about it, it is STILL the 3rd most watched show of Saturday, beating thousands of shows after 8 years! Don’t get worried about it yet, figures drop on every drama as time goes bye. Its when figures drop below 3 million the show is at risk. My guess is that the show will get cancelled some time, but probably due to budget, you know how the BBC has been with money recently. 5 million is still really high. Its also always on the top 10 most watched shows of the week, EVERY TIME! 😀 so don’t get worried, we will know when something is wrong.

face it guys, its been around for a massive 50 years, just because the viewing have dropped a few million, who cares, it was probably lower with the 1st – 8th doctor! so dont worry, if it has lasted 50 years, then it wont be canceled any time soon!

I know they shouldn’t, but these figures worry me. 4.9 million overnight isn’t exactly brilliant. And the final figures are dropping.

Yes, I know they got rid of the TV trailers (why? they are always 10 times better than the next time trailer.

And yes, I know it’s on really early so most people are out and will record it/watch it on iplayer, but even still.

The fans will always find ways to convince themselves everything’s lovely. But it’s not. This is a very low rating. The final figures are steadily getting lower.

The reason the TV trailers are so important this series is that fact that every episode shifts around half an hour on the BBCs schedule, so people might think it’s at 7, check BBC1, and they miss it, the BBC is caring way too much about The Voice it’s painful.
