Line Of Duty’s Keeley Hawes to star in Doctor Who

Keeley Hawes to star in Doctor Who

Line Of Duty’s Keeley Hawes will join the cast of Doctor Who, following rave reviews for her outstanding performance as DI Lindsay Denton in the hit BBC drama. Starring opposite the Doctor, Hawes will guest star for one episode in Peter Capaldi’s first ever series as the Time Lord.

Set to transmit in the autumn this year, Hawes will play Ms Delphox, a powerful out-of-this-world character with a dark secret. Travelling across space and time the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), will come face to face with the mysterious Ms Delphox when they arrive on a strange and puzzling planet.

Written by Steve Thompson (Sherlock) the episode will be directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Line Of Duty, Doctor Who).

Commenting on her role, Keeley Hawes, said: “I am delighted to join Doctor Who and to be working with this incredible team. Ms Delphox is a great character and someone I’ve had a lot of fun playing.”

While lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, added: “Anyone watching Jed Mercurio’s amazing Line Of Duty will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of year. And now it’s about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on Doctor Who: she plays a banker.”

Doctor Who is a BBC Wales production for BBC One. Filming is currently underway for the new series, which will introduce Peter Capaldi as the next Doctor for the first time to millions of viewers.

If you look closely on the glasses there looks to be like a little computer screen in the eye price

So those glasses are probably gadgets

VespiformsSting: I know what you mean, I’m afraid that my age renders me unaware of today’s new stars of the heavens. And astronaut of death; you are right too; actors who have a certain gravitas are rare, and ironically only get “discovered” again by younger viewers. Timothy West being one adding some weight to “Eastenders” recently. Oh, to be young again, on second thoughts…

Just realised “stars of the heavens” and “astronaut of death”. I made a funny link. Oh, “please yourselves”, as Frankie Howard used to say. Please don’t anyone write and say “who’s Frankie Howard”?

There is nowhere else to put this but, by mentioning old clips?Doctors, I think it right to pause and mark the passing of Derek Martinus. The director of many of the best Who stories. From The Tenth Planet to Spearhead from Space( the one which scared me witless when I was 8 years old) Thanks to him I knew what every inch of the back of my couch looked like. Thank you Mr Martinus! “You did quite well, quite well”!It was reassuring to know that my future imagination was in safe hands.

I dread Steven Moffats stories now there always campy with 1 dimensional villains and overarching themes that are never resolved. Plus day of the doctor was so disappointing where were the classic doctors( at least name of the doctor featured classic doctors)

Looks like you haven’t watched The 50th or you certainly need to go specsavers because I’m pretty sure I saw all 13 Incarnations of the Doctor saving Gallifrey and saw them at the end of the episode looking at their next destination! So I rate the Day of the Doctor 100/100 Pure Epicness bravo Moffat!

That’s the problem with most Doctor Who fan’s, their never satisfied.

‘Day of the Doctor’ was a fantastic story to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who, perhaps it will be viewed in years to come as Moffat’s finest story he had ever done.

After all, using footage from the classic series and the TV Movie, he did include the past Doctor’s rather then shun them, as well as giving us a very unexpected surprise of a glimpse of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, and made a memorable character out of John Hurt’s War Doctor.

He saved Gallifrey and the Time Lords, and showed us the previously never before seen Time War rather then just ignore it and do something else.

And he gave us a truly memorable ending – the sight of all the Doctors [minus Peter Capaldi] together in the Doctor’s dream of one day returning to Gallifrey.

Now stop dilly dalling, and be HAPPY FOR DOCTOR WHO !! 🙂

Dalek Fan 12345 – They did use clips of the 7th Doctor in ‘The Day of the Doctor’, a clip from the classic series of him not wearing his coat in the Tardis which I think is from the last classic series story ‘Survival’ and a clip or 2 from the 1996 TV Movie.

But I never understood why they used 7th Dr clips from the movie and the season.

Because that would mean there was two 7th dr,s present and that’s just complicated

While Anonymous is wrong about Day, he is totally right regarding the writing. A friend of mine said it best when he said ‘when Moffatt nails it, he really does, but most of the time his writing is very mediocre.’

That’s 4 actors now from the ‘Life On Mars’ universe, in her case, it’s spin-off ‘Ashes to Ashes’, to appear in Doctor Who.

John Smimm [Sam Tyler] as the Master.
Marshal Lancaster [Chris Skelton] as Buzzer back in series 6’s ‘The Rebel Flesh / The Almost People’.
Liz White [Annie Cartwright] as Alice in ‘The Snowmen’.
Keeley Hawes [Alex Drake] Miss Delphox.

Who next ? the guv himself, Philip ‘Gene Hunt’ Glenister ? 😀

She was fantastic in spooks and is excellent in the curremt series of line of duty, which is even better than the first. I,m not sure what kind of baddie she,ll play, unless like mentioned above she plays it like ms.kislet or miss foster. I,d like someone like katherine kelly to play the rani.
