12th Doctor To Be Revealed Live This Sunday 7.00PM

12th Doctor Revealed Live This Sunday 7.00PM

From The BBC…

Back in June we confirmed that Matt Smith would be leaving Doctor Who and since then there’s been intense speculation about who would be taking over the role of the Doctor. But the guesswork and conjecture end this weekend… The BBC will reveal the identity of the next Doctor during a live BBC One show that begins at 7pm on Sunday, 04 August. You can watch a trailer for the programme now!

The news about the announcement has been delivered in the following press release:

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor

In a special one-off live television event on BBC One this Sunday 4th August at 7pm, the next Doctor will be exclusively revealed to the nation.

Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in British television, the show’s host Zoe Ball will unveil the 12th Doctor in the first ever interview in front of a live studio audience set against the backdrop of a swirling vortex, amongst Daleks and the TARDIS.

The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans.

Excitement will reach fever pitch as they speculate and recall their favourites, plus feature clips and moments from across the show’s 50 year history.

Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews about one of the biggest roles in TV and set out just what it takes to be the Doctor.

Steven Moffat says: “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One says: “BBC One is the home of big live events and this special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I’m more than excited about the booking.”

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says: “We can’t wait to unveil the next Doctor with everyone live on BBC1 on Sunday night. Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we’ve been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation.”

Keep up to date with all the latest news about the show and special guests as we build to the big climax over the next few days and follow www.facebook.com/BBCOne, @ BBCOne and @bbcdoctorwho and bbc.co.uk/doctorwho

The special live show is made by BBC Entertainment and Events for BBC One, Guy Freeman is Executive producer and Pinki Chambers is Executive Commissioning Editor. Commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One.

The show will be simulcast live on BBC America. Doctor Who is produced by BBC Cymru Wales.

Before the announcement we’ll bring you lots more exciting news, including how you can be part of the big reveal!

I found the show to be absolutely awful. Totally out of character with the history of the programme and whoever told Zoe Ball she was a good presenter needs sending off to a galaxy far, far away. Cheap, glossy rubbish with non entity celebs hogging the spotlight from the real star – the Doctor himself. I felt sorry for the previous Doctors being shoe horned into a small gap between the waffle and then for a blink and youll miss it interview with the new guy…. disgraceful.

for me i just hope they don’t do a mirror trait

what i mean is like they change the person but keep it the same traits. so i hope the 12 doctor will not be a joke after joke dr.

i want him to be a dark dr. so u still love him but you fear him sometimes as well. so he needs someone to help him, tell him when to stop and calm down.

thats why my three actors who would make a great dr are

    ( in no order)

    1. andrew lee potts

    2. the person who played matthew in downton abbey

3 the gut who plays luther in luther

I have found an article on the guests that are going to be in the show

Anyone shouting, ‘Is there a Doctor in the house?’ during tonight’s Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor won’t be disappointed…

Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor) will be there in person and Matt Smith (the current Doctor) and Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor) will also be contributing.

The marvellous Bernard Cribbins (Wilfred Mott) will be there in person and there’ll be contributions from former companions including Anneke Wills (Polly), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Bonnie Langford (Mel). Writer and actor Mark Gatiss also features in the show by way of a specially recorded video.

Celebrity fans in the studio include Rufus Hound, Liza Tarbuck and from Outnumbered, Daniel Roche. There’ll also be video contributions from Professor Robert Winston, Jo Whiley, Bruno Tonioli and following his appearance in The Power of Three, Professor Brian Cox.

And, of course, the next Doctor will be there

      August 4th, 2013 - 10:56am

Celebrity fans, video messages from Jo Whiley, Bruno Tonioli? , past Doctor giving “advice” to no 12 live on air. i cant see how any serious actor would want to take part in such a parade.

no doubt a load of balloons will reign down and Big Ben will strike 12 at the announcement.

Still its how TV is done these days it seems which i why i hardly ever watch it i’m afraid, its just not for me.

      I kind of agree

moffat dose not really care about us uk doctor who fans

all he care’s abut is getting new fans and getting usa fans

I just feel like moffat dose not care about us he dose not show the uk a dr who 50th annerverery trailer

and to make things worst he puts this giant pantomime on that he thinks the Americas will like it he dose not care about a thing about us British all he cares about is America and new fans
he dose not about use true who fans anymore

      August 4th, 2013 - 11:12am

The USA is a money spinner and a huge, virtually untapped market for the BBC which is why they are getting priority on many things now.

Most Merchandise information comes from the USA first now ( and i should know), only exception being Character

The trailer was shown at comic con in order to attract as much publicity in the USA as possible at a showcase event.

will you be watching it booboo

    • booboo

no, will be driving between London and home

I am really not bothered, i will hear who it is but am not interested in the pantomime lead up to it or the internet scrum that will follow.

    • Andrew Hall

      August 4th, 2013 - 12:17pm

I agree with Booboo, its going to be a cringe worthy half hour show with celeb fans giving advice etc. Why not just do what they use to years ago? Unveil the new Doctor at a press photo shoot and thats it done. But no we have to pander to the USA, i will just be glad to see the name of the next actor and be done with it.
