12th Doctor To Be Revealed Live This Sunday 7.00PM

12th Doctor Revealed Live This Sunday 7.00PM

From The BBC…

Back in June we confirmed that Matt Smith would be leaving Doctor Who and since then there’s been intense speculation about who would be taking over the role of the Doctor. But the guesswork and conjecture end this weekend… The BBC will reveal the identity of the next Doctor during a live BBC One show that begins at 7pm on Sunday, 04 August. You can watch a trailer for the programme now!

The news about the announcement has been delivered in the following press release:

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor

In a special one-off live television event on BBC One this Sunday 4th August at 7pm, the next Doctor will be exclusively revealed to the nation.

Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in British television, the show’s host Zoe Ball will unveil the 12th Doctor in the first ever interview in front of a live studio audience set against the backdrop of a swirling vortex, amongst Daleks and the TARDIS.

The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans.

Excitement will reach fever pitch as they speculate and recall their favourites, plus feature clips and moments from across the show’s 50 year history.

Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews about one of the biggest roles in TV and set out just what it takes to be the Doctor.

Steven Moffat says: “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One says: “BBC One is the home of big live events and this special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I’m more than excited about the booking.”

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says: “We can’t wait to unveil the next Doctor with everyone live on BBC1 on Sunday night. Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we’ve been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation.”

Keep up to date with all the latest news about the show and special guests as we build to the big climax over the next few days and follow www.facebook.com/BBCOne, @ BBCOne and @bbcdoctorwho and bbc.co.uk/doctorwho

The special live show is made by BBC Entertainment and Events for BBC One, Guy Freeman is Executive producer and Pinki Chambers is Executive Commissioning Editor. Commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One.

The show will be simulcast live on BBC America. Doctor Who is produced by BBC Cymru Wales.

Before the announcement we’ll bring you lots more exciting news, including how you can be part of the big reveal!

This would have been a nice surprise… Had it not been leaked all over the Internet. Everyone knew it was coming! It really annoys me that websites that are trusted with this sort of information go and break the embargo and spoil it for everyone. I’m glad that at least this website doesn’t go and release spoilers like all the rest, you can’t go on the Internet without something being spoiled for you!

Been happening for months now, and usually down to a handful of sites spreading the word rather than keeping quite if someone makes a mistake and puts something up early. leaked stuff would have stayed confined to forums in the past, now you cant avoid it.

Having said that its getting way to gimmicky for my liking

they say they haven’t been looking long, when I expect they’ve been looking for months now. We may have found out matt was leaving in june, but we would have told moffat more than likely at the end of last year. Be a bit stupid if he told moffat in june and said ‘Moff, I want to leave, and I want to leave by the end of this year’ HA

Right, i am going to be honest here…

I think Matt Smith is a great doctor! I wish he had a lot more time, as he is one of the best!
But… The writing is god awful. The show is being turned into a pantomime joke. When nightmare in silver started, my dad was like “what the hell has gone on with Dr who the last couple of years? It’s like a pantomime!”

And the BBC is just mocking the show. The way it is written, directed, produced and marketed has gone down hill the past couple of years. The BBC have decided to forget British license fee payers and have gone all out trying to Americanize it. They are ruining it. I think it would be good if Steven, and ALL the writers step down, and be replaced, as well as new producers/directors/marketers and stuff. It should be completely rebooted after Christmas. But of course, this is just wishful thinking…

      August 1st, 2013 - 11:12pm

It’s always been camp….people remember the old stuff through rosé tinted specs. Personally, I think the show is the strongest it’s been in the 35 yrs I’ve been watching it. The best and worst thing about the show, is it has such a big following that different eras or elements appeal to different fans…but it also means fans always seem to moan on about the show – maybe that’s British trait tho…we are not happy unless we have something to moan about.

I remember watching the show as a kid whilst the great Tom Baker was at the helm and my uncle walking out tutting at how rubbish the show had become since Tom baker became the Doctor…..that pretty much sums up DW and its fans….the show moves with the times but he fans remain in the past.

    • The TARDIS

      August 1st, 2013 - 11:24pm

I don’t think that fans remain in the past, they’ve just had enough of what the show is like at the moment. I became bored of Moffat’s story arc at the end of series 6 and it’s been downhill since. I look forward to a new show runner with new ideas for the show.

    • The TARDIS

      August 1st, 2013 - 11:27pm

Equally, I don’t think that bringing back Russell T. Davies would work. I really enjoyed his era, but the show is always moving on. It is much more interesting to go on to something new than go back to something. Imagine if Jon Pertwee came back after Tom Baker.

No rtd here we go again like I said rtd fans in the the past

    • Lee Llewellyn-Thornhill

      August 2nd, 2013 - 12:55am

Cannot agree more, its time Moffat was gone & RTD brought back, since Moffat too over the stories have become worse and worse, Arcs that go nowhere with no answers to them, moffats broken promises and shoddy writing, he thinks he is writing a fairy story & its become so boring now. Without RTD their would be no NuWho and all the effort and brilliance he put into it the shower of tosh Moffat has wrecked, Moffat was good writing singular stories but as soon as he became show runner it was downhill all the way with a few exceptions! the man is a power freak who is writing it for himself, in fact have the stories i think his kids would have done better or have they written them. Bring on no12 and a fresh start with a new show runner now. Incidentally away from this subject I was at the BBC @MediaCityUK on Tuesday and happened to see a famous famous in a tardis like blue suit walk by me,I’m not saying WHO just in case, but just wondering could he be Number 12? I wonder? not the place too you would expect to see him too like you would Cardiff or London…. Anyway all will be revealed Sunday at 7pm my fellow Whovians on BBC One

    • drjakeyoung

      August 2nd, 2013 - 10:36am

Don’t get me wrong, i think Moffat and most of the writers there are nice people, and i don’t hate them, it’s just i think it’s time for a new show runner. I want Matt to stay and Moffat to leave!

    • TheBritishCupOfTea

      August 2nd, 2013 - 10:40am

All Moffat does is lie to the fans about the show and create (boring) story arcs which span over three series’. Oh, he’s also ruined the Sontarans and Silurians for me. I could stand the Paternoster gang in one episode, but it’s beyond a joke now. I appreciate the fact that kids watch the show, but come on, Moffat!

    • The Moffat Paradox

      August 2nd, 2013 - 10:36pm

Well I’ve seen some stuff on You Tube about the 50th anniversary special explaining John Hurts “Doctor” which if true also suggests an explanation for who blew up the Tardis among other things.

If borne out in a way that makes sense in English and not just gibberish pretending to be in English Moffatt will have redeemed himself more from the charge of crimes against story arc logic and resort to wibbly wobbily timey wimey as a “plot” deus ex machina too much.

Nonetheless Whenever Mark Gattis takes creative control I will simply say here:

      Hooray!!:)

I’m tired of people wanting RTD or David Tennant back. If you can’t move on with the show, then you shouldn’t stay a fan, because Doctor Who is ABOUT change. Sometimes the changes are good, for example, Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor, Moffat has written some of my all time favorites, and what they did with Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor from Season 25 onwards was great, but sometimes it takes a turn for the worst, for example, Season 24 was a shambles, unworthy of McCoy’s Doctor, and RTD, while he wrote some fine scripts, he failed miserably with scripts like Love and Monsters, Fear Her, and The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End. The point is, the show is about change and regeneration, and if you want anything else, then watch a show that’s stayed the same all the time.

I wouldn’t take it so seriously….it’s all entertainment. If it replaces th nine o’clock news then you both may have a point….but it’s an entertainment channel using entertainment to promote an entertainment show….better this than them wanting to axe the show again.
