returning

BBC News and BBC One on Facebook

We’re thrilled to confirm that David Tennant and Billie Piper will join Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 50th Anniversary special!

And not only that, acting legend John Hurt will also be guest-starring!

David Tennant and Billie Piper to return for blockbuster celebrations with John Hurt also confirmed.

The BBC has today revealed some of the all-star cast that will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. David Tennant and Billie Piper will join current Doctor and companion, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, while John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien, Harry Potter) will also co-star.

Last seen as the Doctor on January 1st 2010, this will be the first time Tennant has reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor. During his reign as the Time Lord, Tennant appeared in three series as well as several specials. He was first revealed as the Doctor in the 2005 series finale, ‘The Parting of the Ways’.

Meanwhile Billie Piper, who played companion Rose Tyler for two series following the reboot in 2005, will appear in the show for the first time since featuring in Tennant’s last episode, ‘The End of Time’ in 2010.

Also confirmed to join the cast is John Hurt who will also co-star in the 3D anniversary special that will form part of blockbuster celebrations, set to take over the BBC. Produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One, the 50th anniversary will be written by Steven Moffat and Directed by Nick Hurran.

Filming for the 50th anniversary starts this week. Meanwhile a brand new series starts on BBC ONE today (30 March) at 6:15pm for a run of eight epic episodes, which officially introduces the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Is it just me or does this just seem too obvious….could this be a deliberate press release to distract attention away from much more interesting casting….or is that just wishful thinking…?

According to Doctor Who online some much more significant “classic ” news is immanent

I had heard that….there are mumblings that the BBC are going to test technology to its limit and the early Doctors may appear as CGI to overcome that some of the actors have passed away and others are now very old. Star Trek did something similar afew years ago in the Deep Space Nine episode “Trials and Tribble-actions” where they revisited sequences from the orginal show….it worked really well and I’m sure it can be done better and much cheaper these days. Anyway, the cGI solution is probably not true anyway.

This is good news ! I always enjoyed the tenth Doctor era and the way the character was portrayed by all who, wrote, designed and and of course, acted in, during the programme in those years. Of course, the 50th show will depend on the story and greatly on the quality of the Moffat/Smith era, which isn’t always to my likings. Stil, new episodes to come, and a sense of cautious optimism for the future!! Looking forward to it. Good Stuff !!

Despite the fact David Tennant is my least favorite Doctor and Rose is my least favorite companion (Except for maybe Mel), I am actually excited, because I always liked the way Moffat wrote the Tenth Doctor, and it’ll be great to see a past Doctor return! Now just bring in either Tom Baker or Sylvester McCoy and the Daleks, and I’ll be satisfied!

To my surpise I actually found myself feeling rather disappointed upon reading the news. By no means am I disappointed Tennant is back, in fact quite the opposite. But what I really wanted was the classic Doctors back, and this seems to suggest it will only be 10 and 11, which doesn’t seem to honour very much of the show.

When I saw this, I couldn’t believe it, but now that it is actually coming up to 1st April and everyone is talking about it to be a fake scoop, then the news is probably a false untrue lie, but anyway. I remember when david had that interview, and he said, “I nearly said something i shouldn’t!”. So that is the only bit of evidence we have, and aswell, it’s not actually 1st of april yet anyway, so we shouldn’t jump to conclusions now should we?
