Michelle Gomez (Missy) returns to Doctor Who!

Did you miss her? Michelle Gomez returns to Doctor Who!

Michelle Gomez is back as Missy and you won’t believe how she announces her return!

From the Official site…

Michelle Gomez arrives in Cardiff this week to re-join the Doctor Who cast and reclaim the role of ‘Missy’ for series 9. She joins Peter Capaldi (the Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) for the opening episode of the series.

Speaking in Cardiff, Michelle Gomez said:

“Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my Lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see the Doctor again!”

The second two-part adventure to be filmed, ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Witch’s Familiar’, is written by the show’s lead writer Steven Moffat, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Hettie Macdonald (Blink, the Hugo Award-winning Doctor Who episode).

Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, said:

“Everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”

Having filmed ‘The Day of the Doctor’ in the series’ 50th anniversary special and ‘Dark Water’ and ‘Death in Heaven’ in series 8, Jemma Redgrave returns to the guest cast for series 9, alongside the Laurence Olivier Award nominee and film, television, radio and stage actress Kelly Hunter.

A familiar theatre and television actress and one of the UK’s most proficient performers, Clare Higgins also joins the guest cast for the opening of the series. Jaye Griffiths has been gracing our screens in some of the nation’s favourite TV programmes such as Silent Witness and Casualty and also takes up a guest role in the opening episode.

Other guest stars confirmed for the new series include Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra, Demi Papaminas.

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One and will be back on-air this Autumn.

Missy’s return not a huge surprise-she obviously choose her place of death. Great news though. Looking through these comments I noted some reluctance to a female Master. Given how few of his/her regenerations we have actually seen & she’s in her second cycle of 13 AND some faces were possessed not regenerations, who’s to say the female form is not the more common one. Just because she was a boy when she looked into the time vortex & has mostly been male on screen does not mean she’s always been male.

    THEORY!

Missy seems intent on helping the Doctor, why?

Perhaps following on from the End of Time parts 1 and 2 and Gallifrey being saved by the Doctor, Missy (the Master) attempted to take control of Gallifrey and shape the planets future. But, evidently there would have been Daleks on Gallifrey when it was saved and so perhaps it is the Daleks (and possibly Davros) who have gained control of Gallifrey.

Missy could be trying to get the Doctor to defeat the Daleks, bring Gallifrey into this universe where she will then take control and prevent the Doctor from going there.

Perhaps the Daleks could even invade Earth and threaten to destroy both worlds, leaving the Doctor with a very big desicion to make.

Great theory but in the first year of the Time War, the Doctor thought Davros was killed as his command ship flew into the Nightmare Child but he was actually saved by Dalek Caan from the future and was taken out of the Time War, so Davros couldn’t of possibly been with the Daleks when Gallifrey was saved.

How about something here as a little tribute to the passing of Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy?
Although obviously nothing directly to do with Doctor Who his passing is surely worth acknowledging as a BIG LANDMARK in the end of an era in popular Sci-Fi that most of us who comment here are fans of. We are all part of the same family in that sense.

    Just a thought.

    My plan:
At end of DiH Doctor sees Santa so he must be dreaming? SO Missy is never killed? And the Doctor never doesn’t find Gallifrey?
