Pearl Mackie to be New Companion

Pearl Mackie has been named as the new Doctor Who companion alongside Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord in the Tardis.

The Londoner’s role was announced on BBC One during half time of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United.

Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, whose character Clara Oswald left the show in 2015.

Filming for the next series of the long-running science fiction show will start this year but air in 2017.

Mackie, who graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is currently performing in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

Why are people saying that she’s going to be called Bill? You can clearly see that it says “asBill” at the end of the scene. Either that or the BBC are having a bit of a ‘spag’ malfunction… Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to seeing Asbill join the Tardis

Amy and rose were the best. The Titanic girl and Martha not bad. Clara and Donna annoying and made the doctor look weak. The show should have been named clara/donna and a guy. That is what the doctor was like with them. A nobody.

I dunno what everyone’s smoking…but get some shiznit….I saw the clip….she PALES in comparison to Clara and it’s sad…I’m such a DW fan and yet this girl who is stupidly being called BIll just to be blatantly different is truly DULL and boring and unless something awesome happens I actually may not watch this next season….I loved Martha…so this is not some racist American thing..But my favorite companions were Donna and Clara…they both come in first b/c they both were the best for the Doctors they were with at the time….I was hoping a more mature person would be the next Peter Capaldi’s Doctor companion…not someone who looks like she belongs on America’s Next Top Model…Sigh, it saddens me.

Personally having a companion that doesn’t gel with the doctor is an interesting dynamic, to me she feels like a little inquisitive five year old asking for the meaning of everything in front of her eyes. And in terms of Maturity, surely Clara ranks as the mature one.

To me clara was an interesting companion, there was a lot about her that showed a young, yet independent character. However the decisions made around her character and making her so important to the doctor was a little bit much for me. She acts as a moral compass to the 11th when he is about to destroy Gallifrey, She enters the doctors time stream and saves him multiple times and she is the one who inspires him to run away from Gallifrey in the first place.

With all of the things that she has done it would have made sense for her to be someone of close importance to the doctor, like a regeneration of his granddaughter or one of his lost children. But instead she is this human that comes a little to close to the doctors life and is then killed off without a real solid conclusion to her story arc. Clara is one of my favourites, but I just feel they dragged her story on with no real meaning.

I’m liking what I see in this new character. Bill reminds me of Ace, and Ace was by far my most favourite companion, always ready for action. I hope the traits of Ace remain…and no more lovey dovey stuff from previous companions.
    Can’t wait for new series.

Why is it that whenever a dalek is shooting at the Doctor or his companion its aim is always off? For everyone else, the daleks aim is spot on. Is it just the Doctor’s presence?

I just seen the tenth doctor get hit by a Dalek. wish the tenth doctor stayed forever….. i mean, kindof does in a parallel universe for as long as a human… anyway, i think the doctor’s presence intimidates them.

In one of the pictures above the TARDIS looks very battered. There’s bits of paint peeling off. How did that happen, because it wasn’t like that in The Husbands of River Song. Did the daleks do it? Or has the Doctor just let it fall into disrepair, like he did when he lost Donna? I’m really hoping there’s a new interior to the TARDIS too.

I’m really hoping Season 10 will be a very memorable one. Bill looks promising, and if they’re waiting a year before releasing hopefully they have some really good episodes. I’m hoping that the Weeping Angels can make another appearance in a really scary episode, and that they bring back one of the classic villains from old doctor who like Omega. I’d also like a really complicated story line like Season 6. Can’t wait!

I would say it’s turning in to a kids program, but it looks better than before. I feel doctor who really fails both children and kids, through making scenes childish and yet adding a very complicated story line, which is in turn is ruined through the childish scenes.

I’ve watched the clip a few times now and I think she’s going to be an amazing companion. I like the way she makes silly observations and jokes in the face of impending danger. I feel she’s just what the doctor needs after the know all that was Clara.

I think there playing it safe for the pre teen market, she comes across as a sassier cross between ace and Courtney. Not the radical change I was expecting. The fact pearl is 28 and looks at first glance like she might be playing older teen has something in common with sophie aldred, if that’s the age she,ll be playing because she was playing the teen in her mid to late twenties. I think there might be more to her than meets the eye.I just hope they don,t saddle the character with the big the big family backstory. I do think bill is the diminutive of Belinda, like the woman from 2 point 4 children.

Is she human or an alien?
after watching the mini ep 4 times I am leaning towards alien. if she is human why does she not recognise the daleks. After the events of AOG/D and TSE/JE everyone should recognise the daleks. Martha did. donna didn’t because she was always away or hungover when anything happens. Amy didn’t because of the crack in the world. And for Clara it is impossible too know after she had entered the doctors timeline. so if she is human why does she not recognise them now.

Unless she comes from a period before that – hence the “back to the future, 2017” comment – maybe she comes from early 21st century? Style of dress isn’t much help nowadays…

It’s nice to see everyone has such an optimistic, sensible… Oh, wait… No, not everyone. Watch an episode or two before vowing never to watch again if you are any sort of fan. Complain bitterly after you have some more evidence. Give her a chance to be introduced properly. One of the risks of Who is the ever changing cast, but it’s also kinda the point – new Doctors, new companions.

The Doctor says that they’ve got to go to the future of 2017. Does that mean that Bill is from the past? Or has she already taken a trip in the TARDIS from 2017 to whenever in the past they are?
