Pearl Mackie to be New Companion

Pearl Mackie has been named as the new Doctor Who companion alongside Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord in the Tardis.

The Londoner’s role was announced on BBC One during half time of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United.

Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, whose character Clara Oswald left the show in 2015.

Filming for the next series of the long-running science fiction show will start this year but air in 2017.

Mackie, who graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is currently performing in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

It’s hilarious just how amused she is by a Dalek. Of course, we all know by now what a Dalek is and why it’s a scary creature to many of us, but this is her first encounter with the evil little space-Nazis, and she’s seeing this salt-shaker shaped tank armed with a gun that looks like an egg whisk and an arm that looks like a plunger, and she is just amused by it. It also really feels like she’s going to be an ordinary human from Earth, which really is what we need after Amy and River and Clara. Let’s make this a Christmas in July special, ’cause I don’t want to wait!

Give the girl a chance, she came across as funny and a little quirky, something new, which I think doctor who could do with. The only thing that let the scene down was reusing old dalek clip, shame on you bbc for being lazy. I think she’ll be good.

If this is actually from a future episode as it says they have to change the 1st 10 seconds because they’ve used parts from into the dalek and it’s cringingly obvious to me and will be to other fans if that isn’t changed.

    Oh wow….ANOTHER Female companion…….

Really, what is happening? is this the set rule? no male companions? or alien companions?
I can say that i’m not impressed at her role.
Sorry this is could be the end of doctor who……

It is a set rule really, I don’t see how Peter Capaldi and a male companion would work, as he said himself in an interview.

Agree, I’m underwhelmed. I’m fed up with just female companions. At least, thank God, they’re not romancing the Doctor any more but surely with the CGi we have now we could have a companion alien – even if he/she/it is in human form most of the time. And if we also need an everyman to identify with then get in a younger version of Bernard Cribbins. We could have a crossover and get Martin Freeman to do it.

It’s not her that I have a problem with I think she will be great, I just thought that the whole scene was poorly written and the dialogue was cringy it all felt very CBBC to me

First I think its great how instead of doing a 10 second video of Pearl Mackie saying “Hi I’m the next companion” they did a awesome action scene that also introduced her character. I have a feeling that Bill will be a great companion. Her asking the doctor a lot of questions is a good sign because it says what the audience is thinking and it can make a scene more entertaining. She reminds me of the 8th doctor companion Lucie Miller I think a companion like that would be prefect for the 12th doctor. Please don’t make this companion too complex having them become a “chosen one” makes them less relatable to the audience.

what i like about the image on the twitter page is that the doctor is at the front with the companion behind, recently with amy pond and clara they have either been centre with the doctor or in front. thats the best thing about this uninspired, dull casting…
