Series 10 Episode 10 The Eaters Of Light Sat 17th June 6:45pm.

Written by Rona Munro and directed by Charles Palmer.

A long time ago, the ninth legion of the Roman army vanished into the mists of Scotland. Bill has a theory about what happened, and the Doctor has a time machine.

But when they arrive in ancient Aberdeenshire, what they find is a far greater threat than any army. In a cairn, on a hillside, is a doorway leading to the end of the world…

The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas.

Okay, time to predict the overnight viewing figures. I’m going for a low 2.8 million. Due in part to people being out in the evening with the nice weather.

Actual result 2.89 million. Lowest overnight rating in Doctor Who history! I knew it though!!! I called it at 2.8 million.

Wasn’t ‘Empress of Mars’ and ‘The Eaters of Light’ swapped around from the intended transmission order. Meaning it originally should have been ‘The Eaters of Light’ followed by ‘Empress of Mars’, then the Mondasian Cybermen two part finale. So hopefully there isn’t a glaring continuity error, where Missy is still in the vault.

She will be put in the vault again offscreen. They probably also wouldn’t have allowed a mistake like that, not this far in

I think the story arc will take a big turn next week as a cliffhanger to set up the two part finale! I have questions!!
How does the John Simm fit into the series?
What can Missy see about the doctor that no-one else can?
So many more but I won’t bore anyone! I kind of have the feeling that he hasn’t been the same since he was exposed to the vacuum of space in oxygen.

To me, that scene at the end hints that the Doctor is in fact slowly dying but for some reason only Missy can see that.

She’s a Time Lord, don’t forget in Logopolis the 4th Doctor remarked that in many ways they have the same mind, she’s bound to have a mental link to him somehow.

I know it’s only a ‘ next time’ trailer for ‘The Eaters of Light’, but I didn’t come away from it excited in anticipation. All looked and felt slight and dull and a bit boring. Hopefully the story itself proves those fears wrong.

I basically feel the same. But hey, it could be the best story ever before we know…or even worse than Love and Monsters. Time will tell. 🙂

New writers always create anticipation, and it’s even more exciting due to the fact that Charles Palmer wrote Survival. I hope more classic who writers are brought back.

Hopefully we’ll find out next week. It’d be a bit remiss of them to not explain that.
