This idea has me curious. I’m never a fan of putting modern day tropes into Doctor Who just for the sake of it. But if done well I will happily eat my words!

Perhaps in years to come the Emoji Robots will be as loved as the Quarks.

I’ve always quite liked the Quarks. In fact, I even like the story they featured in ‘The Dominators’. A very underrated story. Whilst certainly not amongst the best Troughton episodes, I’d still give the story 8/10.

Yeah i do as well. The Quarks when on location look really effective in my opinion.

My OP looks like a joke re-reading it. It wasn’t. The Quarks may not be classed as greats but i think they are generally liked. Similarly with the Krotons.

The Dalek design is perhaps the 2nd best decision made in the history of DR Who due to tthe fact that it is a very simple design but held up in the early days of tiny FX budgets, they looked like somethhing that could be real, unlike a lot of the monsters from the early days, which looked and moved like exactly what they were, people in very heavy costumes, who in reality couldn’t catch my old Nanna
I’ve loved DW since the early 70s but lets be honest about this, some of the FX was pretty ordinary.

So, just going to put this here. I saw a trailer for this episode in my country and in it is a robotic voice that says ‘Be Happy’ while showing an Emoji-bot, leading me to believe that it is the Emoji-bot speaking. If that’s the case though, why have Emoji’s on the robots when they can just say how they feel or what they want? It’s really weird.

Obviously these are just my pre-thoughts and I could be pleasantly surprised by the episode so don’t take this the wrong way. Just wanted to let people know they seem to talk.

The implication could be the emoji is still popular in whatever time this is set & is included in the design to be more pleasing to people. It’s also possible they are so long out of fashion it’s a retro nostalgia feature. Of course, it might just be a thing that is & never explained.

a news paper prints it then “fan” sites take great pleasure in spreading it all over the internet and social media adding more fuel to the fire so it becomes unavoidable.

in what sense? whether there true or not? who knows!! but if it was true i would be fine with it, as a kid my favourite episode was the five doctors and they had a different 1st doctor,of course wish it could be Hartnell, but i think it would be better if their going down that route to get a doctor still alive to partake – Paul Mcgann would be the obvious choice.

i think all these leaks and rumours are a total distraction from the fact that series 10 has only just started

    • Dalek Eye Stalk

      April 18th, 2017 - 5:35pm

David Bradley was great as the 1st Doctor, so it would be nice to see him again. However, to the general viewer, this just seems like a show being made for the fans. Plus it would be typical Moffat to do a ‘timey wimey’ story that crosses the current era and the old era. I expect a convoluted story, where time crosses over itself, and the original series with the first doctor is rewritten to a certain point.

    • Koquillian

      April 18th, 2017 - 9:35pm

Dalek eye stalk, i agree. This series really seems like a lot of fan service, just look at ‘the pilot’ where there were old screwdrivers and movellans. Apparently, Chibnall has said he wants no returning monsters in his first series – purely new monsters and i for one agree with this.

    • Dalek Eye Stalk

      April 19th, 2017 - 10:27am

Koquillian I completely agree. And what a breath of fresh air to have NO returning monsters, and hopefully no nods to the past. Chibnall needs to give series 11 a proper reboot. New adventures, new villains, and a new direction. Certainly, I’d still like to see the Daleks and Cybermen return at a certain point in the future. But we don’t want them shoe-horned in every series.

    • Demdike@CultLabs

      April 20th, 2017 - 5:44pm

It wouldn’t bother me if there were no familiar returning monsters in Chris’s first series but i’d rather like to see a new old foe like the Sea Devils in an episode.

I’ve not really been convinced by any of the new monsters since the Silence.

I’ve just read the rumoured plot for the episode and I’ve had some thoughts on it. If the first and twelfth doctor work together to move Galifrey like what happened in the day of the doctor maybe it won’t just be the first Doctor in it. Also it’s rumoured that moment in the day of the doctor when we see capaldi’s eyes, it’s the moment just before he regenerates. Apologies for the spoilers but I’m just interested with the rumoured plot.

I hope so too. AND I would not object to him being Doctor 13. If the Doctor can return to some old favourites(DOTD), why not the longest & the shortest..? Besides, as fantastic an actor as Paul McGann is, I have a somewhat shallow motive for my third favourite Doctor. 12.4.8. Yes. I am aware of the audio stories, but, honestly, it’s quite frustrating to hear Paul McGann & not SEE him. Doctor Who the Movie is alright, but a bit American. However, the Night of the Doctor instantly won his place as a true Brit Doctor.
If not him, I say a woman, possibly ginger. Well, it has been mentioned at least twice (the ginger thing).

If Kris Marshall is the next Doctor, and it is being heavily rumoured that he is. Then surely the BBC will have to confirm or deny these rumours soon. Otherwise it will pick up momentum, and could all be fake news anyway. That wouldn’t be helpful.

Agreed! When the leak of John Simm got out then the BBC confirmed it pretty soon. So if it’s true we can probably expect an X Factor final of an announcement anytime soon! What do you think of Kris Marshall if the roumers are true?

    • Tim M

      April 17th, 2017 - 7:22pm

I’m fine with Kris Marshall. Even those already writing him off should give him a fighting chance..if it is him. Plus, I really wish (and it’s impossible) fans didn’t go on social media and be so negative. As in recent days we have had the press using it to make us fans all look like moaning know it all’s to the general public. Not only have the media used negative reactions from fans to Kris Marshall, but also when Pearl Mackie was one the ‘One Show’ and was asked what makes the Tardis fly, the media used the social media to say ‘fans furious with new companion getting it wrong’. Now I’m sure some negative comments are just taken the wrong way. But the media jump on it, and seem to interpret it as a fandom collective reaction. Which it certainly isn’t.

    • r1ch1e

      April 18th, 2017 - 7:17am

I really felt sorry for Pearl after the One Show! On the show itself it was kind of her way of introducing herself to the Whovians and as you say, the press went mental and spoilt it for her! I think she did fine. Especially as she was sitting next to Anti Who herself Fern britton.
As for Kris Marshall, I’m still on the fence! But i was undecided about Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi as well and they turned out to be incredible. Especially Capaldi!

    • The Outcast

      April 18th, 2017 - 9:50am

I don’t rage about people not knowing things or that the next Doctor maybe Kris Marshall, I only talk about my grievances with the show’s stories. I mean when somethings bad, I shouldn’t have to hide the fact I didn’t like it.

If the rumours of john Simm’s master inside the mysterious vault then I will be the next writer for dr who as I have already written a script where the daleks open a vault and the Doctor witnesses the master trapped inside. The amount of ideas I’ve created and have been put into the show, I might as well just run dr who, lol.

This has got to be a better story from Frank Cottrell Boyce. ‘In the Forest of the Night’ was terrible, one of a few stories from series 8 that could be regarded as poor. I’ve always found episodes in series 8 either really poor, or utterly brilliant, with not much in between. Series 9 was an improvement. So I’m hoping Series 10 will be better still. The ‘Smile’ episode looks promising. Something better from Cottrell Boyce this time I hope. Hopefully this time I come away from the episode smiling, instead of embarrassed by ‘In the Forest of the Night Garden’!

In the Forest of the night was just an abysmal mess and the point at which I felt Doctor Who could never recover. I’d rather watch Love and monsters on a continual loop, heck I’d rather have dinner with the Absorbaloff than watch In the forest of the night again

It is definitely photoshopped. His face looks very unnatural and I can see some lighter outline around his body. It also doesn’t look like that is his hand. Don’t worry the sun haven’t spoiled this too… yet

Take that not just with a pinch, but with a bucket of salt. The Sun always make things up, the picture is easily photoshopped and he has been one of the bookies’ favourites for quite a while due to him having recently left another popular BBC show.
It’s just clickbait, plain and simple.
