Series 11 Cast – Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill

Meet the cast on the all new series of Doctor Who!

When Jodie Whittaker takes over as the Thirteenth Doctor on the global hit show next year, she will be joined by an all new regular cast.

BBC announces today (October 10, 2017) that Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill will line-up as the new regular cast on Doctor Who.

Bradley will star as Graham, Tosin will play Ryan and Mandip will play Yasmin.

Also joining the series in a returning role is Sharon D Clarke.

New head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, who made the decision to cast the first ever woman in the iconic role, is also shaking up who will travel with the Doctor in the TARDIS, with a team of new characters.

In more exclusive news, it is confirmed that the new series will be a ten week run of fifty minute episodes in Autumn 2018, kicking off with a feature length hour for the opening launch.

Chris Chibnall says : “The new Doctor is going to need new friends. We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family. They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor. Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show.”

Jodie Whittaker says : “I am so excited to share this huge adventure with Mandip, Tosin and Bradley. It’s a dream team!”

Bradley Walsh says : “I remember watching William Hartnell as the first Doctor. Black and white made it very scary for a youngster like myself. I was petrified but even though I’d watch most of it from behind the sofa through my fingers, I became a fan. I then queued up for ages to get into the Carlton picture house in Watford to watch the great Peter Cushing appear as the Doctor in a full length feature film made in glorious colour. Am I thrilled to be part of this whole ground breaking new dawn for the Doctor?? Oh yes!”

Mandip Gill says : “I am over the moon to be joining the Doctor Who family. This is an iconic show with an amazing fanbase and I look forward to everything that brings. Certain roles seem unattainable and this is one of those, so much so I didn’t believe it to be true for the first few weeks. To be working alongside the likes of Jodie, Bradley and my old friend Tosin is thrilling. This show is worlds away from the work I’ve done previously and that’s the part that excites me the most.”

Tosin Cole says : “I’m grateful and excited to be a part of this journey with the team. I’m looking forward to jumping in this Doctor Who universe.”

Matt Strevens, Executive Producer, BBC Studios says : “I am thrilled to welcome Bradley, Mandip and Tosin to the new Who family. Working with three such talented actors is going to be a lot of fun. The Doctor is in fine company.”

Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama says : “The casting of Mandip, Tosin and Bradley is a mark of the new creative ambition Chris is bringing to Doctor Who. He’s already made history with the casting of Jodie. These three new characters complete a new and utterly unmissable team aboard the Tardis.”

Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and a BBC AMERICA co-production. BBC Worldwide are the international distributors for Doctor Who.

Bradley Walsh is actually a good actor so I am pleased he will be around to boost Jodie who I still fear is not strong enough to carry the show. I don’t know about the two younger cast members but we can only hope. It was good back in the day when we had a “full” Tardis so this does make me feel more enthusiastic whereas before I just felt dread. Onwards and Upwards!

It would be nice if we could have a series without any old monsters , no Daleks or any .

Especially with less episodes. I’d be happy with maybe one villain returning but I would like it to be a more obscure choice that’s only appeared once or twice thus far. For example, I would like to see a return of the company from Mummy On The Orient Express involved in a larger scale story and Chris wouldn’t even have to shove it in our faces. There could be a few easter eggs or a short scene implying it is the same company.

Actually was it even said whether it was a company or just some small group who were fascinated by the Foretold.

The company/being behind the events of MOTOE was only refered to as ‘GUS’ which could be the individuals name (short for augustas) or it could of course be a good old acrynm for something, revealing the intent of the company/organistaion.

And if Chris is going for a less monster of the week series then a villainous humanoid with some actual character and or backstory would be a nice change.

T.A Kandy Man wont make a return as its a copy of the Bertie Basset character, i read it in an issue of DWM a while ago i think. Although if it was a new style of the creature, maybe it could work. That thing’s voice was creepy

I really like the Weeping Angels too, but I’m not sure if I want them to come back. I feel that each time they return they loose an element of their creepiness because we learn more about them.

In my opinion the most effective villains in Doctor Who are the ones which only appear once and we learn very little about, such as the creature from Midnight and the creature from Listen.

With regard to PC the new TARDIS crew is the most PC EVER! As for Bill, it seems fine that straight assistants were allowed to canoodle at any given opportunity but For Bill it just was a blatant act of pushing the boundaries too far! Absolutely, To me Jodie Whittaker seems a bland choice for the Doctor, if they were going for a female doctor they could have picked one with some degree of charm and charisma and I think too many companions will take the shine away from her as the Doctor.

    • Pats86

      October 24th, 2017 - 11:51am

After seeing Jodie in ‘Trust Me” I can’t say I’m confident but I may be proved wrong. Bradley as the Doctor? Yes I do believe that would have been a decent choice.

    • Doctor Stu

      October 24th, 2017 - 11:56am

I feel like Bradley Walsh will be the bumbling companion who just stumbles into the TARDIS after it inevitably crash lands after capaldis regeneration. Jodie was brilliant in trust me, she played a whole host of different emotions extremely well, the panic, the fear, you could see her being torn apart inside we must have been watching a different program

    • Pats86

    • Mr Smith 07

      October 24th, 2017 - 1:24pm

I feel the same, that they’ve got the wrong actor in the wrong role. Bradley Walsh would have been a great Doctor. I thought he was good in Law and Order UK. Maybe too close to Capaldi in age to have been his immediate successor.

Here’s my choice for Doctor, Suranne Jones. Yes I know she’s been in it before but that’s never been a problem in the past.

    • THE ERGON

      October 25th, 2017 - 1:35pm

Hes too slick Mr.showbiz to be the doctor. Doesn,t have those essential quirky characteristics. But he certainly has the makings of a good companion.

    • The Brigadier2016

      October 27th, 2017 - 9:56am

Can’t help thinking that they’ve cast three companions to draw attention away from Whittaker as the Doctor. For me, she is a bland choice (as others have said).

Wet as a floorcloth in Broadchurch. Not convincing in Trust Me. Seemed to think that range was all about shouting and histrionics in Antigone, where Christopher Eccleston acted her socks off without even breaking sweat! Seems like we now have someone from the acting equivalent of the X Factor school of power singing as the Doctor! 🙁

Do they feel that having three companions means less screen time for Thirteen I wonder? Might cover up a poor, bland, uninventive choice as the Doctor?

    • Pats86

      October 28th, 2017 - 8:08am

Agreed, and I have said the same.

  • whovian

    October 23rd, 2017 - 4:59pm

There is both good and bad parts of 3 companions:
    Pros:
A fresh new look to the series as a whole.

The Doctor may need some good friends to rely on after she regenerates.

A possible family structure if Walsh’s character is the younger ones’ dad.

A throw back to the classic series.

    Cons:

The Doctor being overshadowed like people felt happened with Clara.

Arguing where to travel to, one says the future, one says the past and another says a planet.

The characters being so annoying that the audience becomes uncaring whether a character lives or dies.

If they’re not related or connected in any way and all stand as individuals then it gives a good ‘who’s going to survive until the end of the series’ scenario. I hope there’s some shock deaths this time and actual risk taking that pays off instead of the old companion death and resurrection a week later plot

I found myself wanting Bill to actually die just so I could say ‘finally moffatt has taken a risk’ but no….saved by a puddle. It would have been perfect for her mother to come back who’d been referred to many times over the series and hold her daughters hand and ‘walk with her into the afterlife’ or something similar but no some creepy alien stalker with attachment issues had to be her saving grace

    • The Outcast

      October 28th, 2017 - 2:46pm

Your idea for the ending is really good. Something I would have done differently would be that Bill would be the only Mondasian Cyberman in the forest and that she is taken over and the Cyberman that was once Bill kills 12 and is subsequently destroyed. Then that scene with her mum could take place at Christmas and she appears to 12 as a spirit.

Perhaps you will like it and perhaps you won’t, Josh Smith, but come on, give it a go. What’s the worst that could happen? 🙂

The worst thing that could happen is it flops and gets cancelled.

I feel the same. Now it will after the Christmas special be which force is overall the greater ; remaining and new viewers versus disaffected former viewers. Even “Doctor Freedom” on his YouTube Channel who supports the change has conceded there will be at least some exodus.

It’s Doctor ‘anything goes’…awful casting on every level!

It’s nothing groundbreaking for the Doctor to have three companions, even if having a female Doctor is! The 1st Doctor travelled with Ian, Barbara and Susan. The 2nd Doctor travelled with Ben, Polly and Jamie. Also, the 4th Doctor (for a very brief time) and the 5th Doctor travelled with Tegan, Nyssa and Adric. Sounds like it’s shaping up to be a potentially very good series in 2018.

Having multiple companions may take the focus off Jodie a little, perhaps it will help her to be excepted by fans like myself who were not happy with Jodie’s casting.
Happy to see Bradley Walsh confirmed, he can play it straight when he needs to.

Agreed: multiple companions is great. Chibnall worked with Walsh on Law & Order, where the latter played it ‘straight’ and was very good.

I didn’t like Walsh’s character on L&O:UK at all, was extremely disappointing he was the only original character on that show not to leave. But I don’t hold it against Walsh.

This is great news to work up to. I love multiple companions. Mandip Gill was in Hollyoaks and she was great. Good luck to them all. I am super excited for series 11 now.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t know how I feel about this. However I’m not going to pass judgment until series 11 airs. Just a bit strange how rumours get made and then it turns out that they’re actually true.

why not? we know he can play it straight as seen in law and order and corrie and has cockney charm, gift of the gab and a good sense of humour. And was creepily good in the sarah jane adventures. Hes an all rounder in the entertainent world.Theres Not that many around like that on tv these days.

Why not? BECAUSE OF THE CHASE!!!

But thats just one persona. People in light entertainment like to have more than one string to their bow. He can be cheeky game show host one week and serious actor the next. They aren,t constrained to one thing. Look at john Barrowman as a good example. I believe he,s still doing ‘the chase’ as well as who.

I’m also intrigued by the returning role of Sharon D Clarke. Any guesses? New character? Past ally? Old foe?

The first name that comes to mind for Sharon is Missy. Michelle Gomez left the role, and Missy is a Time Lady, I don’t think the Master actually killed her, she could have regenerated off-screen.

That was my first thought too and it’s certainly possible. However, if I had to bet on it, I’d go for a new character.

My money is on Clarke being the primary Foe, wether its Missy regenerated or an all new antagonist or a new version of an old one, a new Valeyard anyone?
