One of this countries greatest actors. The line ‘ I,m looking for the doctor’ and his exasperated ‘ Oh for heavens sake’ at doctors 10 and 11 (comedy gold) is forever now etched in my memory. Well sir you ARE a doctor and forever will be. P.s- I am saddened by your loss. only one more war doctor story with big finish but at at least a great legacy for who fans everywhere. Thankyou.

A very versatile actor who also of course made his mark in Sci-Fi most memorably as Caine in Alien as well as being the War Doctor.

I can’t think of a single role Sir John Hurt played that wasn’t performed to perfection, but it was a combination of seeing him in the Doctor Who anniversary and ‘I, Claudius’ as Caligula (one of the best performances I have ever seen on television) that cemented me as a fan for life. Rest in Peace, Sir John Hurt.

    One of my favourite actors.
As strange as it sounds, he was one of those people who I never thought would die. I know everyone has to, but I just never imagined the day that I’d read “John Hurt has passed away” seems weird even typing that.
    I will miss him greatly.

RIP John, done a superb but all too short a job as the Doctor, would have had no complaints with you in the role full time. Was at the very centre of one of the most iconic movie scenes of all time and showed his humourous side by doing a parody scene of it years later in a send up movie.
    We will miss you.
